Long time reader, first time commenter :D

I'm on my third Mac as you can see from my sig so this isn't my first time around the Apple. However, this was the first time I walked into an Apple Store and paid for a Mac.

I went to my Apple Store of choice at 1 Stockton in San Francisco. I've been here to purchase iPhones, iPods and every accessory in between and I've recieved the same five star Apple treatment every time, even when buying a case! So I wasn't surprised when I made this trip that they wanted to go over every detail with a fine tooth comb to make sure I was spending my money on a machine I really wanted. I told them I waited over a year to pull the trigger on the purchase and I had no choice since my faithful Jackie Brown wouldn't power on any longer.

I went with the 17" glossy despite the love for the anti-glare because I don't do any professional design and I don't anticipate taking Jules out of the house anytime soon. By the way, I name all of my Macs after Tarantino characters. Jules came very close to being named "Shoshonna Dreyfuss".

Anywho, I'm glad to join the forums with new Macbook Pro in tow!

I ordered a MBP 15" with High Res + Antiglare yesterday. The ETA says it will ship in 3 business days and shows delivery by 2nd September.

That's a two week lead time to the UK.

Is this normal? It seems awfully high for what is probably a common upgrade.

Ordered my new 15MBP i7 500HD@7200 with HiRes antiglare screen. As advertised "will ship in 1-3 days," but no notice of shipment as yet, Will put the 2 year old MBP (see in signature) up for sale on craigslist once all the data is transferred.:D:apple:

Just got word that my order was shipped from China in the wee hours of our morning (Day 2 since original order was placed). It is due here on Wed the 25th according to UPS. Sometimes when delivering to here in the past they come a day earlier than their estimates. We'll see. Obviously, I am already counting the days!:)

Very impressed with my MacBook Pro purchase. Ordered it last Thursday Afternoon, received it yesterday at noon all the way from China (I'm in San Diego).

Loving the high res anti glare display. Makes me so glad I didn't get the 17" (came very close). i7 is blazing fast with 8GB RAM and a SSD. Unreal.

Only bad thing about this purchase is that I won't be able to make one like this for many many years. Unless I happen to drop my wife's MacBook... :D

Hey :)

So from order to receipt < 7 days? What did your order status give you as an ETA?

I ordered mine last night and it hasn't shipped yet...

new macbook pro! New to macs and loving it

So today I just bought a new 13 inch macbook pro base model at best buy. A friend of mine convinced me to buy one last week and today I finally pulled the trigger.
The best buy honored apples deal about getting a free ipod touch and the student discount. The nice part was that best buy gave me the ipod touch FREE with the macbook when I bought it. NO mail in rebate! Also I got $100 off the macbook, my total came to $1185 after tax and with an 8 GB ipod touch. I also got the 24 months no interest deal they were offering on my best buy card. I love this thing....I came from a dell 17" laptop that I bought in 2007 and this is so much nicer to use. I am glad I made the switch!
Any recommendations for an apple newbie that came from windows?

Thanks,
Dan

After lusting after it for months, I just got a brand new 13.3" macbook pro! As a bonus I was able to sell my 2006 black MacBook for $425 cash, not too shabby.

It was suppose to come tomorrow. Got it 2 days early. Took only 6 days from order to delivery and that was over a weekend. Thanks Apple!

Ahh, congratulations :p

Mine is due by September 2nd. That's a two week lead time for the same spec (MBP 15" with High res + anti glare).

I'm not sure what's taking so long - the anticipation is killing me! :D

Hmmm, that sounds very odd.
Mine was BTO as I upgraded to i7, 8GB RAM and a SSD. Try calling them up and asking why so long. Does not sound right.

They say that it's prepared for shipment and because it's coming from China it takes that long. I expect it might be here before their ETA.

Did anyone else here get very long (i.e. 2 week lead times) on their build to order machines?

Anyhow - how are you enjoying the MBP? :)

Same boat here... ordered on the 17th, August a 15" AntiGlare MacBook Pro, it seems today is ready to be shipped and Apple's webpage says 2nd, September too :/ (But since it is a merge in transit, until it arrives a hub in Italy I won't know the company delivering it, UPS ot TNT)
However, if this baby doesn't come on next Friday at the latest, I'm afraid I will have to return it as I'm leaving the country till Christmas on 30th, Monday...
I called Apple and they said, the dates are very likely to be met (one day earlier at the very best)... so I'm afraid it will never reach my hands and I will have to backorder and then re-order the same thing from where I am going (pretty stupid of Apple that they don't ship to other addresses different than ones within the same country where you bought it... specially that there are no problems with that thanks to the EU/EEA agreement :( )

I'm sorry to hear that :(

My situation isn't as stark as that - I'm around this week and next week if Apple want to get me the MBP by then, otherwise the following week I'm travelling and will miss it :(

All this seems quite excessive given the price of the machine, especially for common upgrades. I don't believe that Apple actually manufacture each individual product to order. Do they?

Fingers crossed for both of us that our MBP's arrive next week.

well after waiting for 5 looooong days, it came via FedEx about 30 minutes ago. I ordered it Sunday night, the 15th. It arrived today!!! I got the base 15" with HR AG.

I can't tell you, after being attached to a Dell desktop for 6 years, its unreal using such a nice laptop. It almost doesn't feel like it's mine!

Just ordered a 13" MBP 10 minutes ago. It's going to be my first mac ever, I am so excited!

MBP 15" i7 antiglare 7200rpm ... ordered. Whew. It took me a long time to pull the trigger but the order's in and the waiting starts.

Ordered the same on the 17th. It is now somewhere between Anchorage AK and here. Probably get it on the 24th, but maybe, just maybe tomorrow! Waiting is the worst part of the process!

I just placed an order for the 15" 2.66 GHz core i7, HR-AG, 128GB Apple SSD, 4GB RAM, minutes ago after weeks of reading so many reviews. I'm so excited since this machine will substitute my 4 y/o black macbook core duo 2.0 GHz. Can't wait to use it :D

Hi, new to the forum as well as being new to Mac :)
Just ordered my first one! Ordered the MBP 15" i7 with Hi Res Glossy screen. Says its due on the 7th-8th of September. With shipping due within 3 days.
This seems like a long time, what sort of shipping estimates are you guys getting?
Thanks :D :D I'm so excited to get this thing!
