I will either be ordering or driving to the closest Apple Store (1.5 hours away) next week to get my new MacBook Pro! I've read here about dead pixels on some machines. Is there a program you can run to find them or do you just have to depend on your eyes? My eyes aren't so good and I'm afraid I'll miss one until it gets worse!

Also, is there anything else I should look for? Have owned tons of PCs but this will be my first Mac since I bought a Mac Classic back in college in 1991. I am so glad to be coming back into the light! :apple:

Have them go through the set up with you in store and you can check by eye while you are there (you don't have to accept the one they offer you). Easiest way to spot them is to put a plain white background up and look for coloured spots and then do the same with a plain black background. All the programs people use to spot them do is put up solid colour backgrounds, usually white, black, green, red and blue for the user to check for different coloured spots.

I am now posting this from my base model 13" MBP, I've only just started it but wow its fast and I'm very impressed with what it's like and how it performs so far :D :D :apple:

In order to go through set-up in the store will I have to have a Genius Bar appointment, or will they do that with me if I ask? I was going to try to go down when they have one of the introductory Mac classes since it's been a really long time since I've used one on a regular basis plus other than just playing around on a friend's computer I've never used OS X so I don't know any of the little tips and tricks that I might need. There isn't an intro class at a convenient time for me so doing it at the Apple Store isn't an option unless I wait to buy my computer. :( I technically could wait, but well, I've been waiting for years to get one of these bad boys and I don't want to wait one more day than I have to! LOL! I can go to a class here at home at one of two local Mac authorized dealers that offer free training, but I don't know if these are as good as the classes offered at the Apple Store. Decisions, decisions! :apple:

They usually ask when you're buying it if you want to go through the initial set up. It's just a case of booting it up, registering it and making sure you know how to do the basics. They don't normally use a Genius for it, just who ever did the sale with you.

Ordered. Waiting for it to ship, but should be here next by Thursday. My 8GB RAM, SSD, second HDD, and MCE OptiBay w/ USB SuperDrive enclosure should all be here before then too.

I was impressed, too! I was worried about the size but it fits perfect on my laptop and, remembering the 15" I had a few years ago, this feels pretty good. :apple:

I ordered a 2010 refurb 15'' with Hi Res AG that was delivered today. Not bad 3-4 business days with the free shipping.

Looks brand new. Been surfing the web for a few hours, downloaded FireFox and add ons. It a little warm on one top corner but I would say below average for any kind of lap top.

Very pleased with it. The set up is a snap.

Not sure why they are still installing 5400 rpm harddrives? I can hear it too which is obnoxious. I'll be switching that out asap.

Joining the Group!

Just ordered mine!

2.2GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2X2GB
500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
MacBook Pro 15-inch Hi-Res Glossy Display
Backlit Keyboard (English) & User's Guide

Went to the store and got a lot of questions answered. Didn't think the glossy screen was that bad. I use my laptop in my living room which is pretty dark most of the time, no lights behind me. Anti-glare would have been OK too but not sure about the silver screen border. Just didn't look as good.

Have the same laptop and just got it Monday, you'll love it!

Same I was quite worried about the size and it's perfect and I wouldn't change it for anything now, The resolution is good and I can see everything I need to on the screen and it will be very portable for me :D

I just need to update flash now as it says its out-dated :/

I am getting a MacBook Pro soon from a desktop I built that had been damaged in a storm. I was looking at the 17" but I am worried that it will be too big? Should I just go with the 15" with the same specs?

I'd go with a 15 and then use an external monitor at your desktop station.

JUST GOT A 13" MBP!!!

This thing is a ferrari beast.
Intel i5 2.3 Ghz
No doubt it's the best laptop I have ever owned.
Wow, the quality is top notch. I'm still learning how to use it and learning how to copy and paste and what not. I don't care if new macbook pros come out in February, at least I have this own to play with till then. It's so nice!! I'll buy a new one later anyway.

How do I get the Lion update?

Congratulations. Got the same one June 17th and lovin' it more every day. So far Apple's being a bit vague on the free Lion upgrade and have only stated this:

OS X Lion Up-to-Date Program
The OS X Lion Up-to-Date upgrade will be available at no additional charge via the Mac App Store to all customers who purchased a qualifying new Mac system from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller on or after June 6, 2011. Users must request their Up-to-Date upgrade within 30 days of purchase of their Mac computer. Customers who purchase a qualifying Mac between June 6, 2011 and the date when Lion is available in the Mac App Store will have 30 days from Lion’s official release date to make a request.

When Lion becomes available in July, come back to this page for details on how to request your copy of Lion.

Received my new 15" today! (w00t)

baseline + HR AG, geekbenched at 8828 in 32 bit

Longing for SSD, optibay and RAM upgrades but forced to wait as I splurged on a moshi keyboard guard (ugh at $30) and an incase neoprene case ($50.) Of course keeping my new laptop minty warrants the price gouging.

Bring on Lion.

Just bought my first ever Mac. I got the base model 13 inch. It was a tough decision between this one and the base 15 inch. The only reason why I wanted the 15, was because of the screen. I don't do anything special on it, so I couldn't justify the extra $600 just for the screen size. I think I would have actually got the 15 inch, but the people at the Mac store basically talked me down and put some sense into me. Anyway, still learning this thing out. It is pretty amazing.

That's kind of refreshing, actually. To know that they were trying to talk you into what was more practical instead of what would get the company more money. I had a similar experience and it's nice to see that especially when many places will just try to get you to buy whatever costs more.

Went to my Apple Premium reseller earlier today and ordered a 15" MBP high end model with the high resolution screen that is anti-glare. They we're not sure when I would get it but hopefully within two weeks the latest. Very excited to replace my current MacBook 13" which is old and grey now.

Just got my MacBook Pro. Love it. It's a huge upgrade from my late 2006 MacBook Pro. =]

Just ordered a 2.2 Ghz 15' AG MBP and my super awesome cousin got me 15% off! Quite the upgrade from my 2007 Macbook

I've been saving for pursuing my photography passion forever, and with a very limited budget, I finally got a used macbook pro2,2 (late 2006)!

I know, its outdated but I maxed out the RAM & a 7200rpm 500gb, and its going good so far. The cosmetic condition is immaculate and running snow leopard.

With this macbook, I also moved away from PC, after 12 years! Super excited, & such a refreshing change!

thanks fr the best mac community :)
