Got my 2.2ghz, 8gb, 750gb HDD, Glossy 17" MBP. First time using OSX.

After working at Best Buy for years I have to say while my Apple store was FILLED with walking stereotypes and was stupidly busy (I mean, over an hour and a half just to pick this up after buying it 2 days ago busy) I was super happy when I got it.

They gave me the back to school deal no problem.

The guy doing it (who was new) caught an error in the education discount and gave me ANOTHER $112 off.

And on top of that there was "Good luck with your new Mac!" and "You'll love it!" coming from everywhere around me, AT me.

Unfortunately it took so long I couldn't talk to a manager to thank this guy properly and didn't have time to use it outside of a dead pixel test but I'm sitting here now before classes very, very happy.

OSX is... From what I've seen... Logical. It does what you THINK it should, not what the menus tell you it should.

Also I'm in love with the magic mouse, Being able to zoom/scroll and (most importantly) go back in a browser with the swipe of two fingers is AMAZING.

Just placed an order so I have to express my excitement somewhere. Squueee!!!
Ok, sorry. That's over. So yeah. This will be my first personal laptop I've ever bought. I've had desktops and been through a few work laptops, but this is the first that is mine.

MBP 15", 2.2GHz, 4GB, 500GB @ 7200RPM, hi-res glossy.

Scheduled for delivery between Friday, 24th, and Tuesday, 28th. I'm going to go ahead and just assume that it's going to show up at the later end of that timeframe.

Just received my 13'' customized MBP yesterday and I am absolutely loving it! This is an upgrade from a 2006 macbook and I am so glad I did!

Received my 2011 13" i5 MBP refurb yesterday. My 2008 15" MBP died on me Monday. Loved my 15" but wanted something a bit smaller. 13" is perfect size for me, just wish we had a hi-res option. I'm sure I'll miss having discrete GPU at times but that's ok. I switched out the 320GB HDD with a recently new 500GB HDD that was in my 15". I love how easy it is to get into the new MBP - 10 screws and you're in. The drive is sata II so I might upgrade it later to a sata III; also want to throw another 4GB RAM in.

Also, checked my machine build date, May23-May29. Not even a month old for a refurb. I don't think I'll ever buy brand new again!

Just got a refurb 15" Feb 2011 model with AntiGlare screen. I must say, lovely piece of kit. Transferred Lightroom over and it's now chomping through my iTunes library coming from a Windows machine. Need to setup BootCamp to run Windows 7 for situations which may require it. As I do IT I'll need both!

Neat machine. OSX 10.6 is a lot better than previous Apple versions in my book.

Bought 8GB RAM separate and stuck it in too!

Noob question on shipping: Just ordered my 13" MBP with an upgraded 500 GB HD. I picked guaranteed 1-3 day shipping, and it says it'll deliver on June 24th-28th. Do MBP's often ship sooner than later? If I'm gone during that time, should I ask a neighbor to get it / sign for me?

Yesterday I ordered a refurbished 2011 13" 2.7 GHz i7 4 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD

upgrading the RAM to 8 GB and swapping the optical drive for a Crucial c300 64 GB.

Gonna put Lion Server and Win7 on the SSD for my boot drive! Can't wait.

just picked up my 13.3" MacBook i5 today. I'm new to this OSX thing, just came from using a windows laptop.

What is SSD? I hear a lot of people talking about this but don't know what it is or what it does?

It is instead of your hard drive. Solid State Drives (SSDs) use no moving mechanical parts like your hard drive does. It also is significantly faster, with a seek time of a few micro seconds (vs milli seconds from HDD) and a lot faster read/write speeds.

are there any particular brands out there that you would recommend?

Just ordered a BTO/CTO the following, got student discount, free printer and $100 app store card:

15 MBP
2.2 Ghz
4GB Ram
Hi-res glossy
500GB 7200RPM

so pumped! will get the free upgrade to lion, was going to wait but I decided I needed it now. I was going to get a SSD, but they are too expensive still. Maybe in a couple years. Overall, I'm so happy! I've been waiting for this day for a long time!

On Friday, I picked up my new MBP 13" i5 from my local Apple Store. I got the $100 App Store gift card, and I turned down the free printer. I already have a mac-daddy wireless printer/scanner/call yo mamma printer by HP, so, I really did not feel like going through the printer/rebate process. Yeah, I could have sold it and made some coin, but, I really don't have the time or patients to do it.

I grew up on Mac's in the 80's and 90's. I was the only kid in the neighborhood that had a Mac and my friends used to call it a "Maggot Box", a cheep dig on "Macintosh". Anyway, it has been years since I have owned one, and I FINALLY got my wife on board to buy one. It has taken a little getting used to, but, it is all coming back to me.

The MBP is pretty fast, boots up quickly and the graphics are great! I just wish Mac's were a little more affordable, then maybe more business would use them ( I wish my employer would).

Any rate, I'm very pleased and I'm sure I will be using this computer for years to come!

After spending almost 2 hours each way on the approximate 98 mile road trip to Micro Center on Friday I finally got a new MacBook Pro (specs in the sig). It was a kind of spur of the moment road trip thing, I figured if I'd ordered it online I'd change my mind before it shipped and not get it. It was $200 off Apple MSRP, so even accounting for Michigan sales tax of $60 and the gas (about $20) it was still a better price than most (all) internet resellers.

Saturday morning I was able to get a space opened up on my desk for it and to set it up, then had to go grocery shopping. Since returning I've been downloading and installing software updates, and new versions of my old software. It's times like this I wish we had internet that was faster than AT&T's lowend DSL.

This is my first ever Mac with a trackpad so I've got to adapt to the trackpad, but so far I'm lovin' it!

Ordered my 13" customized MBP yesterday...now the pain of waiting! I'm replacing my 2007 MB and can't wait to have it in my hands! I'm so hoping they get it to me faster than the 27-29th it currently says, I'm pretty sure I can't wait that long!

It is generally considered:
Super reliability - Apple SSD with applecare
Reliability - Intel 320 series
Performance - OCZ Vertex 3 (If your MBP has a SATA III port)

If you are a normal user not shifting loads of files around, then you would notice little difference between them. The advantage is that apps load in an instant, whereas with a HDD, it might take a few seconds. Also, boot-up time is 15-25 seconds for SSD, whereas HDD is closer to 1 minute.

I just bought one last night online, will I get a tracking number in my email? What is the track record for receiving one before the est. delivery date?

My parents ordered my 15" MBP with a HR AG screen and the 500gb hdd. Shipped from shanghai today and should be here by Thursday.

High end 15" with HR-AG and SSD ordered on Monday, just wish it'd hurry up and ship, I've got an 8GB kit sat here waiting to go in it already :D

This is what i got today.
15" MacBook Pro 2011
2.3 8GB Ram HI Res AG
240 Vertex 3

Looking into Synology DiskStation DS1511+ or TC 3TB
I already have linksys 4200 so DS1511 would be a better option

Just bought a new 13" i5 MBP. Love the backlit keyboard and not having to install drivers anymore! I went to print something yesterday for the first time, plugged in the printer, turned it on... nothing popped up, nothing happened. Went to print the page and my printer was already listed, ready to use. Amazing.
