Just Got 15 cMBP set up!

Just wanted to drop by and say thanks for all the help I found on this forum. I just replaced my pre-unibody 2008 MBP with a 2012 cMBP.

I got the 2.6 with the 7200rpm 750gb HD Hi-Res AG screen. I swapped a 256gb Samsung 830 SSD in the main bay and put the 750 into the optibay. Also put in 16g of Corsair Vengeance RAM.

I learned how to do all of this based off of helpful people in this forum. Thanks again! This new machine has been great.
 
2011 13.3" mabook pro refurb 2.3 ghz i5

Just ordered a refurb macbook pro for $799! Seems like a great deal on a decent machine to replace my 5 year old imac. i'm planning on upping the ram to 8gb and adding an optibay 256gb ssd for another $250. Still going to be $500-$800 cheaper than the 13" retina mbp i was waiting for.

Any thoughts on this machine? there's still more available if anyone is interested:

I just ordered a refurb mid 2012 MacBook Pro 2.5 i5/4GB/500GB HDD. Can't wait to get my hands on it and upgrade the ram and put a ssd in it...all at less the cost than Apple would charge!

Anything I should look out for?

Base 15in MBP. Just arrived tonight. UPS guys were swamped with packages and didn't deliver until 9 freaking PM. (Most torturous day ever waiting for UPS truck) Probably because people want to get their deliveries in before the labor day weekend where they would have to wait another 3 full days because of labor day on monday.The most beautiful laptop....ever. Can't wait to get my $100 education gift card to get more apps for it.
 
Hey all, first post here :cool: (been lurking for years)

Ordered a 15" 2.3ghz/Hi-Res AntiGlare/128GB SSD MBP (got 16GB ram on the way)

I ordered it on Thursday (Aug 30) and its still in processing (even though my 100$ gift back to school gift card has been shipped). Any hope I can expect this to finish processing over the weekend? Or is that just giving myself false hope? :rolleyes:
 
So I just bought the macbook pro retina display

Hey everyone! So yesterday i purchased my first! 15" macbook pro retina and pretty much decked it out with 2.7 processor, 16gb ram, and 768gb of flash storage but I am starting to have some concerns. I originally was going to buy an alienware but I convinced myself that I needed a laptop for school and not for games. What I did not really think about about was the difference between the macbook pro and the retina display. After looking at countless videos on both laptops I noticed a whole selection of different ports and what not on the original macbook pro where the retina kind of fails at. Also the macbook pro retina is not upgradeable which kind of sucks. I am in college so when I saw the retina I just figured this would be the right way to go without doing any research on the original macbook pro. I just wanted to hear from someone else if the retina was the right choice to purchase for school or did I just blow 400 some odd dollars. I am not to worried because I can return it before 14 days passes but I just would like to know what every one else thinks. Thank you!

I think the 2.7 over the 2.6 is a waste of money, same with the 768gb SSD over the 512gb.
 
while i think you will enjoy your rMBP, I can't help but think you rushed into this very quickly.

I think you will manage with the ports, it has all the right ones.:)

i kind of agree with you they just come in one big paragraph day after day, so many people rushing into 2400 pound purchases, really worrying.:eek:
 
What you're asking is completely subjective.

It's similar to asking "what's the better pizza topping, pepperoni or sausage?"

You'll ask 10 people and get 13 different answers.

The only "right" answer is "whichever model best meets your needs."

People can tell you the pros/cons of each.
The retina display is thinner, lighter, and higher resolution.
The non-retina has more ports, is easier to upgrade, and can play dvds.

But ultimately, only you know the answer to your question.

As you said, you have 14 days to think about it. Apple would be willing to trade with you and reimburse you the cost difference.
 
Got my UPS tracking number around 3:00 AM last night. Just says:

"A UPS shipping label has been created. Once the shipment arrives at our facility, the tracking status--including the scheduled delivery date--will be updated."

And my shipping status has been bumped to the 5th of September (This Wednesday). Really hoped I could get it tomorrow! :) But still, Wednesdays better than Friday!
 
New rMPB is the darts.

I have finally made the leap from windows to Mac OSx and have never been happier and what can i say about the retina display but it is absolutely gorgeous very impressed indeed well done Apple you have one very happy customer indeed.

Mine has also been labelled up but still nothing more, i think the UPS sorting centre is in Northampton so until it gets there we'll hear nothing.

My shipping status still says the 4th though, i'll let you know if it arrives!

Mines been updated! It's in Tamworth now. We ordered the same day huh? Damn nation. Maybe mine will come tomorrow too! :D Were Irish, I'mma get our praying fingers out and i'll put holy water on the modem (Just a few drops).

Mines also been updated to Tamworth too! I also have a bag coming which is also in Tamworth, first time it was sent by Ukmail via syncreon and arrived damaged after it was out for delivery 3 days in a row before they found my house! Thank god the replacement is coming by UPS!

I'm near Cambridge which I guess is why mine is coming tomorrow as it hasn't got to traverse the Irish Sea!

In anticipation of selling my iMac I just got done ordering my new rMBP!

2.6GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
512GB Flash Storage
AppleCare

The student discount pretty much took care of the RAM upgrade and I am also getting 5% cash back through Discover!

Now on to shopping for accessories. I already know and have ordered the mStand. Just have to decided on a USB 3.0 hub, case/sleeve, and maybe a monitor.

I also have to swear to myself to not upgrade again for 3 years. :p
 
Mine got updated also it departed tamworth at 7:52am today. Estimated delivery is tomorrow so hopefully it will arrive then, I wasn't expecting it until next Tuesday. My student gift card has its own tracking number seems kinda pointless why cant they email me a voucher code or something.

It's finally here! Just arrived at work. This is going to make for a veeerrrry long day!

Mine has also arrived, 2.6/16/256.

First impressions are that i'm blown away! Ive got an LG screen and after doing the IR test not that i wouldve sent it back anyway unless it annoyed me its completely IR free. My replacement Thule Attache case also arrived in good nick this time, pretty sure they sent me a refurb the first time round.

Anyhow im going to install fcp and adobe and test this bad boy out!

ordered my RMBP on the 9/1; estimated delivery window of 9/11-9/13. i predict this week to go by very slowly
 
Just bought my base model (8GB/2.3GHZ) RMPB since I don't do any crazy graphics stuff and my desktop with 8GB works flawlessly. It has a samsung display and so far seems to be flawless, no dead pixels, ghosting or backlight bleeding. I wonder what the actual % of defective screens is, I'm beginning to wonder if this forum is like a game forum where only people who complain go on it, while people who enjoy the game steer clear from it.
