Hey people. Got my Macbook pro Retina last week on thursday (the 6th of september).

This is my second Mac. I had a 13" 2011 model for 6 days, but returned it as I realized that my PC wasn't ready to be replaced.

The decision to get the rMBP instead of cMBP was very easy. Originally I had thought about getting a 21.5 iMac and use it together with my iPad. But as Apple failed announcing a new iMac within my timeframe, I decided to jump ship, go for a laptop and sell my iPad.

The 13" MBP was out of the question because of the small display and bad resolution. 13"MBA was an option, but again the screen was too small and I wanted a pro machine. Naturally I advanced to the 15" MBP. I was at first considering base 15" cMBP. The machine was more than plenty stuffed with power and the screen was okay.

I strayed to the rMBP once I realized that the price difference was only 3500 swedish crowns (520 dollars, but in the US numbers 350 dollars). After weighing what I would gain for that money; 256GB SSD, 1GB GT650m, 8GB RAM, 2880X1800 screen, lighter weight, thinner chassi and also a greater resale value, the path was clear. The only downside was loosing the optical drive, but I didn't care since I anyways never used it on my PC.

Before the 1 year warranty goes, I'm pretty sure I'll buy Apple Care (further increasing resale value). I'm planning on keeping the computer for 3 years. Then I'll take it from there, either sell it or keep on going.

I'm looking forward being a member of your amazing community!

In your case your not really gaining storage space but losing about half when comparing base model to base model
I take it that storage space is more important for you. I'm more concerned about smooth operations and durability. I'm not planning on downloading anything through this computer.

Well to me as important, I wouldn't buy a machine that had small storage no matter what the other specs look like

I understand. I have sacrificed storage space for speed. But in the future I expect SSD to replace the traditional hard drives as the price/GB keeps going down. Then we won't have to decide...

Will My macbook pro ever leave SHANGHAI?!

My 15-in MBP has been sitting in Shangai for almost 3 days down. It says it will deliver on the 13th. But im beginning to think that's not going to happen. Anyone else have an experiences with apple shipping like this?

Correction: The email Apple sent shows the 12th as "Delivers" date, but when I check the FedEx tracking it shows the 11th. I really hope FedEx comes through, because that would work out perfectly!

Surprise Surprise! FedEx dropped off my rMBP this morning! That's 1 day earlier than FedEx tracking and 2 days earlier than Apple estimate! This thing is absolutely amazing! I did my usual dead pixel and backlight bleed test and everything looks good. Out of curiosity I checked the panel and I got a Samsung. I haven't bothered to test for IR since I assume I will notice if it happens.

I just ordered my new Retina MacBook Pro :)

So I went with ... 2.6 i7, 500gb SSD, 16gb ram.

Got edu discount so a discount off the price, plus a £70 gift card. The discount for Apple Care has once again been increased to 75% so I got Apple Care for £60!

I was going to stick with the 8gb of RAM but for such a relatively small price (given the price of the machine itself) I think it is definitely worth it.

Sweet ...

Just ordered a 2.6/16/512 as my 2007 is dying from the nvidia 8600 issue. and since i ordered, this machine is running perfectly.
oh well, it be great to have a spare machine. maybe the wife can use it for a bit more so she keeps her grubby hands off my rMBP!!! lol

just wish it would get out of the processing status

Order date: 11 Sep 2012
Shipment Date: 13 Sep 2012
In my hands: 14 Sep 2012

Oooh its nice to be back on a powerful mac:)
MBPr 2.6ghz 256gb 16gb mmmm happy, broke customer:)

2011 17" cMBP used from a forum should be arriving next week. Flirted with Apple notebooks and desktops on an off; no doubt this will likely be more of the same.

No, you got the telephone support uplift for £60. The 3 year hardware warranty is included in the Higher Education discount :)

Very nice machine though!

I've ordered the same build as you!

mine went to 'preparing for shipment' this morning. how long is it usually before it ships?

just got my refurb 15" MBP, they sent me a model with the Intel graphics card as opposed to the NVIDIA, now I gotta go through the process of returning it and ordering a new one. Hope it doesn't happen again.

Actually after looking over the specs advertised online, I notices this

"Graphics Intel HD Graphics 4000 and NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 512MB of GDDR5 memory"

When I check the "About this Mac" window all I see is Intel HD Graphics 4000, did I get the right computer?

Just picked up the MacBook Pro. It's soooo fast and smooth. Already installed my Crucial m4 SSD in it.

once I recover from the nosedive my wallet took from the new iPhone, I'm really looking forward to a new MacBook Pro. Had my current one since 2008. Still not any major problems but it's just gotten really slow

In "About this Mac" you will see the card that is currently is use. In that case unless your doing something intense it will be the HD 4000 by default. If you want to manually switch between them I recommend checking out a tool called gfxCardStatus.

Got my rMBP BTO in the mail yesterday. 2.6GHz/16GB/256GB. Samsung screen and no dead pixels/image retention/etc. Although it does seem to warm up noticeably when I started watching one 1080p video. Other than that minor quibble, so far so good.

Congrats. :)

13'' is such a nice design, I am sure you will enjoy it!

I'm sure I will. We've always had Mac desktops, first that colourful little box one, and now the Mid 2008 iMac, such amazing computers.

It will be my first Mac laptop though :D

13'' was my first and only Mac laptop (and Mac) and I am very pleased with it. It sounds like you will be too. :)

Ordered the 2.3/8/256 rMBP from Macmall and decided to return it. Didnt even open the box. Just ordered the 2.6/16/512 model on Apple! I am planning on running XP, Windows 8, and Linux via Parallels/VMware and the memory could come in handy.

After long and hard consideration, I ordered a rMBP today! I was really, really torn between the cMBP and the rMBP. ;)
Specs: 256GB / 8GB / 2.6Ghz + AppleCare.

Can't wait to get my hands on it, very much hoping to get a Samsung screen.
