Just upgraded.

Previously using mid 2010 17" 2.7 Ghz i7 & 8Gb RAM with 750Gb Seagate Momentus Hard Drive.

Now using 15" rMBP 2.7Ghz i7 & 16Gb RAM with 750Gb, plus Samsung display. I have found absolutely zero problems so far. Bought in an Apple store from their stock supply.

Even though the 17" was no slouch, the rMBP absolutely wipes the floor with it for performance. I need to run 3-4 Virtual machines at the same time and finally, can actually do it.

Ordered my very first ever Mac last Monday. A 2012 refurb macbook pro 13.3 with the 2.9 GHZ i7 and 8 GB of RAM.

Since I am a total Mac noob, I couldn't stop researching all last week as I waited for my Macbook to come in the mail. As I was researching more, I came to the conclusion that the 13.3 just will not be good enough to do what I want it to do. It's fine for the business side of things, but I like to game. And my favorite game for the computer has always been Civilization. Well, the newest Civ, Civ 5 apparently runs like crap (or not at all) on the Intel integrated graphics chipset. So that just will not do.

I am coming from a PC with a geekbench score in the neighborhood of 2,700 - so the 13.3 would have been a big upgrade already from a computing standpoint. But I decided to return the 13.3 before I even got it and ordered a 15.4 refurb (2012) with 2.6 GHZ i7 and 8 GB of RAM. Here's to hoping it lasts a long time!

Yes, it is a pricy upgrade just to play one game, but this computer is going to be my only computer and I want to make sure it lasts. That's not to say the 13.3 wouldn't last. But since I am replacing a desktop permanently, and I am used to a 17" monitor - I want to make sure it is something I can live with for years to come.

I promise, you won't be disappointed.

You won't regret your decision. The 15 MacBook Pro is a lot more powerful than the 13" in every aspect.

So the 13.3 arrived last night and I set it up to play with it until the 15" comes (it's on the truck for delivery today, apparently - the 13" had to travel across the US from California, while the 15" is coming from about 2 hours away!). The 13" is a nice machine, and if portability was a huge factor for me I would definitely want it to work. I would probably wait for the 13" Retina MBP to be announced, it is that nice. But as expected, Civ 5 cannot run the way I would like it to (though it does run, and it seems to run better than my PC ever did). Civ 5 makes the 13" work HARD. After like 20 minutes, the fans started going nuts and it was getting HOT. I hadn't even played enough turns in the game to found a second city! This was not going to work.

We'll see. I am going to try the 15" out and make my final decision tonight. I am looking forward to seeing the difference in my experience with a quad core CPU, dedicated GPU, and much better resolution on the screen.

I love the idea of a retina display, but not with the drawbacks of no upgrade ability and no DVD drive. I gotta have a CD drive, and I don't want to be carrying around peripherals.

So the 15 came in and I set it up. Weird, but the setup process on the 13 went much smoother.

Also, Civ 5 crashed multiple times on the 15. I had to play with settings to get it to run and even when it was running, it was choppy! The 13, with its integrated graphics wasn't the least bit choppy early in the game (but I fully anticipate it will be later on).

I am shocked at this. I don't think I can justify $600 more for a laptop that can't play my favorite game adequately! That said, I am not too sure I want to go back to a PC either from the work side of things... Ugh. What to do, what to do.

Maybe keep the 13 and bootcamp it so I can run Civ 4 and Civ 5 in windows.

This is extremely disappointing. I am going to do some research to see if I did something wrong. I thought for sure the 15 would outperform the 13 playing civ 5, especially since I went with the 2.6 GHZ model with 1 GB video RAM!

I decided to "hold power to reboot" my shiny new 15.4 in MBP last night. I was adding photos to a shared photostream when it just froze. I still had cursor control but that was about it. I was in a hurry to do some other things so I decided to force a reboot. When it came back, it asked if I wanted it to reopen my apps. I said yes but they didn't come back. I guess ML isn't as stable as Lion after all.

I got mine at Microcenter just over a week ago. It is a late 2011 antiglare hires 15 in MBP. They say it's $500 off but I checked and it's about $850 off the original selling price. I added 8 GB of RAM, then went back and changed it to 16 GB of RAM. I'm delighted with the machine and it took me a few days to get around to installing Mountain Lion. Hopefully yesterday's prolonged "freeze" is an isolated incident.

Bought plenty of refurb items - they are literally in top notch brand new condition. Good saving to be made as you say.

Picked up the MBP retina yesterday from Micro Center. Was not entirely sure which direction I was going to go on my there. They are offering a very nice deal on last years MBP i7 750 7200 for 1599.00 but when I got there I was able to secure a nice deal on the 256 retina model because it was open box.

First impressions- Coming from a year using the 11" I forgot just how big 15" is. the display is stunning. The weight is a nice balance for a laptop this size. I will have to make some personal adjustments for the HD size but thats doable. Little bummed about working in entourage because even in lo res it still looks lousy and i dont foresee MS ever addressing the '08 version. Going thru some photos was just a blast. the pictures are life like. Its a truly amazing display. The speed is fine. did a handbrake conversion and it really flew no fan.

Just received confirmation that the order is processing. But the estimated delivery date is now later than expected. Argh. ;)

I just received my rMBP after my 2010 MBP died from a logic board failure. It is a 2.6/16gb/256gb model, a huge step up from my last computer. The computer arrived 5 days before apples estimated delivery date, so it was literally a surprise! I haven't put this thing to the test yet, but it feels very responsive so far.

My refurbished macbook pro has arrived and I am so pleased with it, there is no indications that it's refurbished.
There is one thing that puzzles me, is the memory user upgradable I bought the June 2012 13" 2.5, 4mb version to maybe upgrade the memory at a later date, I know earlier models had a removable plate underneath to upgrade but this one doesn't, can the memory still be upgraded.

Just unscrew the bottom and yi should have access to all the internals.

The wait is the worst part :D
I ordered mine on the week-end and I got it Wednesday...longest 4 days LOL

It is, right? And my order was stuck in awaiting payment for two days. Finally started processing Friday midday. Was yours customised in any way? I changed the screen to anti glare and upped the HDD to a faster one.

I really hope it dispatches Monday. I'm soooo over excited, it's unreal. But I've also realised for the first time today how much money I spent on Wednesday night ordering it. I also regret I didn't up the RAM to 16 GB straight away. Oh well. ;)

Bought my refurb 15" Mac Book Pro and I couldn't be more proud of it. It looked brand new right out of the box when I finally arrived at my house. Not a single cosmetic issue with it! Apple does such a great job with their products and making their customers happy.
