Amazon Warehouse Deals

Just ordered my first MacBook ever! So amped!

Been looking to buy a MacBook Pro for weeks but couldn't find the right deal and eBay and Craigslist are jokes IMO

so I ordered from Amazon Warehouse Deals: 13 Inch MacBook Pro "Like New - Used" - Core I5 - 500 GB - 4 gigs of ram, anyone have any info to share on the warehouse deals MacBooks?

Going to order 8 gigs of ram from Crucial ASAP! and eventually a 256 SSD whenever Gizmodo finds a solid deal!

Should be here Oct 24th - 27th, hopefully sooner? I'm located next to Philly and I know an Amazon Warehouse is somewhere close in PA *crosses fingers*

Nice! How much from AWD? Amazon is also always having SSd sales. 256 m4 or 830 for around $160 today.

solid! Prob will pickup an SSD down the road due to money constraints but I got it for $900 before taxes/shipping

Def upgrading the ram to 8 gigs right when I get it though, thankfully that's a cheap but noticeable upgrade!

Okay, I ordered my Macbook Pro finally. It should arrive on Thursday. Before it does, I have two questions.

1. Could anyone link me to a simple to follow guide that shows me exactly what I have to do to copy the HHD to my SSD? I want to transfer as soon as it gets here, but all the guides I've found seem to be overly complicated and uses terms I don't know.

2. I currently own an iPhone that's linked to my Windows computer. Is there any possible way to transfer all the data to my Macbook so my iPhone is synced to my Macbook instead without having to lose any data?

1) Is you HDD in an External enclosure or is it a Time Machine backup drive? Usually Migration Assistant is a good tool for transferring your data to your new Mac.

2) Just copy the iTunes folder from you Windows to your Mac. As long as both have the same version of iTunes it will work just fine.

1. It's the HDD that comes shipped standard with the Macbook. I bought a Crucial M4 SSD and wanted to mirror copy the HDD to the SSD, so I can switch it out for one to the other and everything would still work the exact same, only then the MBP has an SSD.

2. That simple? I'm surprised, I thought it would have different file extensions, as well as some problems with syncing.

Dude for $200 you could've got the 15inch RMBP! It has a quad core i7 processor, dedicated graphics card, 256SSD, 8GB RAM!

WTF!

Unfortunately I'm in the UK - even with education pricing, the 15" is almost £300 / $450 more.

I toyed with the idea of a 15" but I really need the extra portability. 13 is perfect size for me.

I wasn't aware that everyone needed all of those things. Also, the difference in price is $500, not $200; it's $200 if you upgrade to a 256GB SSD, which I'm not planning on doing.

Exactly! People are always looking to get the most powerful specs but the majority of users are just fine with a dual core processor and integrated graphics. It won't slow down your everyday use.

First time purchasing a Macbook Pro (and first time spending more than 2k on a laptop in general lol), and look forward to working with OSX as well. I've only worked with Windows since i've been a kid, but recently i've been looking around for a laptop with some decent hardware without the weight. Originally I was looking at the Sager NP9150, and was actually considering getting that, but after thinking about the amount of weight I would have to carry around in the process made be think twice (and not to forget the sound quality and possible keyboard problems as well...). I do a good amount of work in 3ds max and some photoshop (and a little gaming), and after learning about the 13in not having dedicated graphics pretty much narrowed down my options to the 15in retina or non-retina. In the end I really wanted to get my hands on a freaking 2880x1800 display, so I went with the retina.

I purchased the 15in Retina with the 2.6Ghz upgrade i7, 16GB RAM upgrade, and everything else default. I'll be using a external USB HD to limit the amount of internal storage I use till I purchase an upgrade from other world computing in the future. I would expect SSD performance would get hit hard if more than 50% of the disk is utilized (considering all the SSD benchmarks i've seen online point this out), but I wonder if this type of flash storage would have different results...

I expect this to last me at least 2 years (hopefully 3).

Really looking forward to messing with OSX, and pray I don't run into any problems with the display... >.<;;

Good luck with your future Mac. I don't think you'll regret it. I recently purchased a base, non retina 15" MPB and I'm very happy with it. I just didn't want to spend to much and wanted to have the ability to upgrade it in the future. But I definitely think my next laptop will be the retina MPB.

Hi to all,

I am in a bit of a struggle:

Just ordered rMBP 13" 256Gb and then realised that rMBP 15" is just £60 more expensive.

So now there is a tradeoff:

On the one hand I know that 13" is the perfect size for me (tried everything from 11" to 17"). The weight is also a "nice to have"

On the other hand I am loosing quad-core i7 and nvidia graphics.

I know that I won't use a 30% of that power, but it still bothers me a lot. My usual usage is Office/Browsing/Movies. I am also thinking of installing Parallels to run Windows Office on it.

Stick with the 13" if it's a good size for you as for your usage you will probably not benefit a lot from a discrete gpu and quad core CPU. But if £60 isn't much for you and you don't mind the bigger size, then the 15" is definitely a much more powerful machine. Up to you!

I just ordered the 15" rMBP (2.6ghz, 16gb ram, 512 gb ssd) online for Apple store pick up. How long does it take to get to the store? I've never ordered online before, always picked up whatever was available at store.

Unless you are in China, don't hold your breath waiting. Mine, and most I've read about are at "export scan" phase with UPS at this point.

I've got two coming, one scheduled for delivery tomorrow and one on Friday. They are both available to be tracked using domestic couriers.

I'm in the UK too. The tracking No. (TNT) they've given me is clearly being recycled though as it's showing info. about a previous shipment in July! Awaiting this to refresh...

Mine are with UK Mail and thankfully both state my name in the information page, so hopefully I'm looking at a delivery tomorrow for my non-BTO one.

My TNT page has updated. Looks like it's en route to Edinburgh.

Here's hoping for an honest deliveryman - When my iPhone arrived, I stood and watched (from my window) the deliveryman drive up to my apartment door, fail to press the buzzer and promptly drive off again. Immediately got an SMS saying he had attempted to deliver. Sadly I'm on the 2nd floor so couldn't run down to catch him! I was never so angry in my life...
