Jumped from Windows XP Pro to 10.6.8, Snow Leopard
@SUNO: And it was, as you fear, a shock. After the first (very long) 3 days, in a different state, new surroundings, amid 'family reunion' I managed to get acquainted, clean up some malware-riddled computers in the family. BUT let me tell you, the external display issue has me totally stumped. I planned to use the MacBook Pro with an external keyboard and mouse, and a larger viewing space. Needed this blazing little MBP to run a sophisticated film-production program and later editing.
So far all went very well...except I have never yet been able to get any external display to 'wake up'...it's detected, I can adjust the settings, tried two different monitors that run just fine on either of two old Dells, has the correct mini-port adapter, etc. I'm SO bummed, on my (at least) fifth day of reading manuals, forums, sites, and tried many 'fixes' that worked for others. I'll keep trying. Am seeking ideas from others who have overcome this issue (NOT on Mountain Lion, though, as I have the snow kitty).
Hey, you can do it. I hadn't touched an Apple product since the 80's, been doing loads of medicolegal transcription, novel manuscripts, film scripts on various PCs, but I'm feeling reasonably comfortable already on this MBP. BTW, I'm entirely self-taught on computers and this is the very first time I've run across something that I just can't work my way through alone...feeling a little defeated but still trying, eh.
