I bought the exact same configuration 2-3 weeks ago and ended up with a free upgrade to the i7, so good luck!

Oh that'd be sweet! Maybe mine will be that way too. And if not, that's fine too. The benchmark difference between the i5 and i7 on the rMBPs is less than 5%.

In other news, I got my shipment notification this morning! It'll be here Tuesday. It's coming out of PA. Kinda weird since my refurb MBA11 came from China.

My rMBP arrived today

I am a long time windows user and I do actually love Windows 8.1, but it's always been in the back of my mind (just wouldn't go away!) to get a MacBook Pro. Well I finally ordered my product today and am hoping and praying that the refurbishment reviews I see online are accurate - that my Pro will be in as new condition.

I ordered a
MacBook Pro 15 inch Retina, Oct 2013 model
2.3 ghz i7 Haswell
16gb RAM
512Gb PCIe SSD
Intel Iris Pro and NVidia 750M
Thunderbolt 2.0 ports

It was £1,869 (vs £2,199 new) and I also bought the 3 year cover. This basically made the purchase about the same price as a new model without the cover.

Why did I buy this after being a long time Windows fan?

My requirements were pretty simple. A high build quality workstation to cater for music creation / recording as well as fast python and R programming. The screen resolution was key (as I hate reading and writing text that is not crisp) and also battery life was vital as I am on the road a lot.

I searched and searched for a Windows machine and just could not find one. Ultimately it came down to the MacBook Pro vs. the Dell XPS 15. I almost pulled the trigger on the Dell but was ultimately scared off by the poor battery life reviews.

So here I am! A Mac user - good heavens.

That's my initial quote above - found it easier to quote myself rather than rewrite what I ordered.

Anyway, the product arrived today (3 days after order - impressive) and I have to say was keen to see just what this refurb looked like...

All I can say is that I am blown away after initial inspection. It is perfect. There is not a single mark, stain, scratch to be seen. The screen is perfect - not yellowish, not too blue, great uniformity.

This machine is simply awesome and I can not believe it is a refurb. First impressions of Apple products after coming over from Windows. 10/10.

I am so happy... Longer test drive to do but thought I would share that any fears I had about Apple refurbs are gone.

My reburb rMBP13 showed up on Tuesday. It's awesome! It is an i5; I didn't get a "free" upgrade like somebody else did, but that's okay. It's a fantastic little machine! It's sooooo much nicer than my old 11" MBA... which was still an awesome computer. It just didn't have enough screen real estate.

Now on this one I'm running the display in 1680x1050 scaled, and it's great. It also has the Samsung SSD!

Can anyone give me a rough timeline of delivery / dispatch for a BTO rMBP?

Ideally delivery to the UAE would be great!

Thanks

Just ordered 13 2.4 16gb

Best guess is a week to ten days, maybe less. My refurb came in record time.. ordered it, it shipped 24 hours later, and showed up two days after that. But I also spent $14 on the faster shipping option.

When I ordered my refurbed 11" MBA 18 mos ago, it took three full days to ship, came from China, and took another 7-8 days to arrive. And when I ordered my new Mini, same thing.

Whenever possible, spring for the faster shipping! :)

That's the same one I got as a refurb. Why don't you see if you can get one of those and get it quicker, and maybe save even more?

Would prefer brand new, just personal preference. Also been through quite a lot of hassle as I ordered it through finance ringing Apple etc so will just leave it. Thanks for the tip though.

Just ordered my refurbished late 2013 15" rMBP last night. It's a 2.0Ghz/8GB/1TB. I upgraded my current 2008 MB 5,1 to a TB before and don't think I could live between 3 externals. So at a refurb price it was $400 off. :D

I was cleaning up my current machine and started getting a little sentimental to be selling my 6 year old workhorse that got me through college. Only a few cosmetic scratches on the bottom of the case. I couldn't justify putting $500+ into a 6 year old computer to get it up to some current level of technology...and I wanted a larger (Retina) screen.

Had a moment of buyer's remorse as soon as I placed the order because I thought I had over over-specced and had gotten more than I needed but I just see it as an investment for the future.

So me and a couple of others were made redundant last week (blah, I know). I've asked whether it would be possible to have a company laptop as part of my settlement. I'm in genuine need of a laptop, the one I'm running is 5-6 years old, I actually took the company laptop home so I could work on my CV, it's that bad. My previous line manager is well aware I need a new one as I'm always complaining about my current laptop and how long it takes for me to edit photos (photography is a serious hobby of mine and photo editing is SO painful at the moment). My plan was to buy a Macbook after my holiday but now that I've been laid off I'm not sure when this will be possible. I figured why not ask them? The worst they could say us 'no' right.

I've specifically asked for a Macbook Pro, so with any luck I should know in the next few days. 15" 2012 or 2013 model. It would be a huge help to me for various reasons.

The last Mac I had was a 17" Powerbook G4, it was the first laptop I bought when I was 19 years old. It took me several months to save for it but it was worth it when I finally got it. it served me well for 5 or so years (absolutely wonderful!) until I had to upgrade to my current laptop (which is currently dying and falling apart, I've never liked this laptop I bought it out of necessity for my studies at the time).

Anyway, fingers crossed I get the outcome I want :)

Well, I went ahead and did it. Ordered me a 13” rMBP with i5 / 8GB / 256 SSD.

It was very tough decision as I was hoping to stay in the price range of the MBA but with the wifeys education discount..... I did it.

Ordered online from Apple.com and am picking it up locally TONIGHT! LOVE instantaneous local store pickup. :D

Nothing beats instant gratification!! :D

Congrats ... It's a heck of a computer! :)

After tonnes of reading on here I made the decision last week to order a rMBP 13 with 2.6/16/512 configuration. I ordered it last Wednesday and received it on Monday. I'm so impressed with it. I was worried about finding defects as reported but I haven't discovered any so far. It's perfect.

It has the Samsung SSD probably since it's the 512 capacity. I know at the moment the 16GB is highly unlikely to be needed but I upgraded my previous mid-2009 MacBook Pro 15 to 8GB due to running servers, Eclipse, Photoshop and VM's at the same time and I felt I could possibly need the 16GB in the future.

I'd wanted a 13" Pro for the past few years because I felt the 15" was too big. I don't move my laptop around very much but I still like the smaller size for using it while sitting on the couch as well as at a desk.

I was worried about the smaller screen real estate since the recommended setting is essentially 1280x800 resolution, but so far I think everything's an ok size. The retina display is incredible looking.

I wish I'd bought a Time Capsule and a Thunderbolt cable because transferring everything from my 500GB hard drive on my old 15" Pro to a 500GB USB hard drive and then onto my new Pro is terribly slow.

Methinks tis a bit more portable... ;)

Also, this week seemed like it took forever!
