+1 for refurbed 15" / 2.3 GHz / 16GB / 512 SSD config... ordered on Monday... delivers following Monday. Maybe I should have ponied up the extra $14 for 2-day shipping, haha.

My 27" iMac was a refurb as well. Most likely will be buying refurbished Macs from now on...

Reasons why my rMBP shut down are I hadn't charged it and connected an aged cord?

Hi community,
An rMBP suddenly shut down before the delivery man could say Good-Bye. I read explanation which says I made two mistakes: I hadn't charged it first and connected the Mac to an older cord of mine.
I can't believe it. These are two reasons why: 1) Experience reminds me notebooks of all manufacturers can work even without batteries,
2) The cord was standard. Old, but made by Apple. And it did work. Provided with power. I used a combination of the MagSafe from the freshest kit and the extending cord from my previous MBP which is 2008. The older extending part had successfully worked together with the thin cord of a new MagSafe kit I'd recently bought.
Yet, I might admit, the guy who has kindly answered me is right. Why? Cause the forum has taught me that any supernatural theory which comes to my mind as explanation to yet another problem occuring to my old MBP is in fact reality which has already been described by the forum users:)
Here's my story in details; Proof that it’s new, how it all happened and my theory why it could happen.
This is the paragraph which proves that the item was brand new:
I got an rMBP delivered from a well-known shop-chain. I carefully examined it. It hasn't been unsealed in any way. I opened the so-called transportation box. Unsealed the Apple box. Cloth inside, scent, MagSafe sealed.
Now this is what I did to the MBP:
Pushed the power button. No reaction. Connected the MagSafe. Amber light. Now again a fact in favour that the MacBook hasn't been used: It asked for initial settings: the language, region, name, password and so on. Inserted a a USB flash card to identify the computer with some progs. Since a prog didn’t unzip, I plugged in a USB Modem and entered Safari to download it again. The MBP shut down. I touched the keys, except the power one, tried reconnecting the cord and returned the item.
And this is what I can offer as explanation:
My guess is: the MBP couldn’t work together with my USB flash card. It’s well-known, MBPs don’t tolerate third-party peripherals. And my USB flash card is produced by a world-known respected firm, but it’s about 9 years old.
The reason why I purchased this new device is the same problem which I’ve just described above: it also switches off, now from the first instance.
Specs: MacBook Pro 13 ME864RU/A, Intel Core i5-4258U 2.4 GHz/4096Mb/128Gb/Intel Iris. Date of production: Febr. 2014.
So, have new Macs really become so tender? Or I just was lucky with my older notebooks which had removable batteries?

I got my refurb 2.0/8gb/256 15.4 retina today. Really impressed with the speed. Not a single scratch or scuff on this anywhere.

After much back and forth, I decided to go ahead with the 2.4/8/256 rMBP. Picked it up yesterday at the Apple Store.

I am coming from the 17" Mid-2010 2.66 MBP.

After the initial Spotlight scan completed (a lot of freezing up and slow reaction times), function is super smooth and quick. I am super happy about my purchase.

Just bought a brand new 13" rMBP yesterday! :)

2.4/8/256.

I upgraded from a 2011 MacBook Air. Super happy! :D

I just went to the Apple store to order this exact machine, but it's not currently available. My wife's birthday is next week and that's what I was planning to get her. Do these come and go, or will I have to pay extra to get a non-refurbished one?

I purchased a second hand PowerMac G4 a few years ago just to play around with OS X and get a feel for what using a Mac is like.

I picked up my 13" rMBP on Thursday. It's my first "full fledged" Mac with contemporary software and hardware. This machine is a work of art and I'm pretty sure I'm now a Mac guy. Yeah!

I have a Macbook Pro Retina. I spilled some water on the track a few days ago and it is now moves on its on up and down the screen. erratically.

I have kept the laptop in a tent position for the past few days hoping whatever liquid was in there would drain. Truth be told, it was just a bit of water but it spilled on the edge of the trackpad where there is a slight opening.

1) Can I do anything to fix this as my laptop is basically useless right now.
2) Will Apple fix this for me under Apple Care?

Bummer. Water damage can be a PIA. A bit of advice:

1) Find a more appropriate thread for your question. (You'll get a better response!!)
2) Call Apple and find out what you're covered for under Apple Care.

Good luck!

I sold my Mid 2013 MBA 13" 8gb/256gb/i7, and ordered the Late 2013 rMBP 15" 16gb/512/i7 and can't wait till it gets here tomorrow. I've already bought a Speck cover for it at the Apple store. So yeah I'm excited. lol

I'm a bit late here, but I got a new 13" RMBP a couple weeks back. Got the one with 8GB and the 512SSD.

I've had an iPhone for years. Just got my first iPad earlier this year. And that was enough to push me to a Mac.

So far I'm liking it just fine. I also run Windows on it, so I can run the few things where I can't find a good Mac counterpart. Plus I can develop on there (I'm a web developer by trade, so I had to have Windows somewhere).

I bought the late 13" MBPr 2.4/8/256 today at the Apple store. They price matched amazon.com's price. I also won the SSD lottery. I have the Samsung SSD. I have no plans to install Windows 8.1 on this computer, because I have a gaming desktop (i7-4770k/16GB/250GB SSD/1TB HDD/MSI GTX 760 2GB) with Windows 8.1 Pro. Also I prefer to have a dedicated Windows PC and a dedicated OS X PC.

How was the move from 17 to 13? I'm contemplating the same deal.

The first day took some getting used to with the smaller screen real estate. However, the size and weight makes it all worth it.

I had used my wife's 13" MBA a few times while on vacation recently so I knew what I was getting myself into. ;)

After a week and two days, I am totally in love with this size. I have not felt limited by this size, processor, RAM, or SSD configuration. I am using less than 40GB of disk space. I figure by the time the disk needs upgraded to a bigger size, I will either be ready for a new one or one will be available to buy at a reasonable price.

I grabbed a deal on a Refurb late 2013 rMBP 13, 16 gig, 512, i5 today. Now impatiently awaiting shipment notification! :)

Sold my 11" MacBook Air this morning...

I bought the exact same configuration 2-3 weeks ago and ended up with a free upgrade to the i7, so good luck!

Well I finally did it

I am a long time windows user and I do actually love Windows 8.1, but it's always been in the back of my mind (just wouldn't go away!) to get a MacBook Pro. Well I finally ordered my product today and am hoping and praying that the refurbishment reviews I see online are accurate - that my Pro will be in as new condition.

I ordered a
MacBook Pro 15 inch Retina, Oct 2013 model
2.3 ghz i7 Haswell
16gb RAM
512Gb PCIe SSD
Intel Iris Pro and NVidia 750M
Thunderbolt 2.0 ports

It was £1,869 (vs £2,199 new) and I also bought the 3 year cover. This basically made the purchase about the same price as a new model without the cover.

Why did I buy this after being a long time Windows fan?

My requirements were pretty simple. A high build quality workstation to cater for music creation / recording as well as fast python and R programming. The screen resolution was key (as I hate reading and writing text that is not crisp) and also battery life was vital as I am on the road a lot.

I searched and searched for a Windows machine and just could not find one. Ultimately it came down to the MacBook Pro vs. the Dell XPS 15. I almost pulled the trigger on the Dell but was ultimately scared off by the poor battery life reviews.

So here I am! A Mac user - good heavens.

just picked up a 2013- 256gb ssd 8gb ram rMBP openbox from BB with movers+edu discount for $1100 after tax. sold my air to my buddy for $600 and ended up out of pocket @ $500 for this rMBP. love it so far.

battery had 6 cycles on it and couldnt even tell it was used. think its a good deal so far.

how do you find out what SSD/panel you have?
