ppcybay,
Yeah I really struggled with buying the rMBP vs. the MBA. It took weeks for me to decide. I really like the MBA feel. I hope the rMBP is similar. If not I'll return the rMBP and immediately get the MBA I had my eye on.

I loved the feeling as well.

Only issue i had was that i was waiting for a 8gb refurb model (and never seemed to get lucky)

Also while the macbook air screen might be ok i just feel that its too outdated

Im hoping that the trade off in the air portability for me, is made up in the power, trackpad, and retina screen of the rmbp

I was in the same spot, and I am recieving my rMBP today, so I understand both of you, I too was looking for a Air 8GB 256 with 13 inches, but then pulled the trigger on the rMBP.

Just got my Ref rMBP 13 inches...lovely and fast, i love the force touch trackpad, don't really see the issue some people have with it.... only minor issue is the f3 button that is a little wobbly.... wonder if apple will replace it... So far so good, it's no Air (you can really tell the difference) but lovely!!

Got mine a few days ago. Agreed with the screen - it looks amazing. The weight is not too bad, but its definitely balanced differently, which makes it seem heavier than it is, compared to the Air.

The laptop is really fast, noticeable faster than my 2012 Air. I think 90% of the speed increase I'm seeing is the better SSD and graphics.

Force touch is nice. I wish I could program the "harder" push to do something other than "look up on Google" or whatever its doing.

My only issue is connecting an external 1080p screen. It doesn't seem to display at 1080p, when using either of the two thunderbolt ports (TB to VGA adapter). This screen and adapter works fine using the Air. I didn't have any other adapters available to test (TB to HDMI or DVI, for example). I ordered a TB to DVI to see if the adapter is the problem. I plan on using the external display while my laptop is at home, so it's a deal breaker if I can't get it working. I'm still in the 14-day window so I will either return it or have it serviced. I'm leaning on returning it if I can't get it working out of the box.

Other than the external display issue, the laptop is excellent. I am happy with its performance. I use Logic and Addictive Drums and it works perfectly with no audio dropouts or crashes. The MBA struggled with a few of my projects, the Pro I have doesn't even flinch.

Replacing the TB to DVI adapter fixed the problem. Now I have excellent video out through my dock to my monitor. Loving my rMBP.

Just got my new shiny rMBP 15" as primary developer machine for Xcode etc replacing my aging iMac 27" from 2010.
2.2GHz i7 and 16GB RAM, 256 GB SSD. Lighter then I thought.

I the iMac I will now replace/reformat the disk and try to speed up this way a bit. The beachball was just disturbing.

Ordered the base 2015, 15" rMBP 2.2/16/256 as a refurb... Can't wait. Had the little 12" Macbook for about a month... it's just not enough, unfortunately.

I've got a 2013 15" base model and the 2015 15" with AMD card in home trying to make a final decision. It's a tight race and I think I'm going to keep the newer one as its a desktop replacement, but it's over $700 more.

I was sitting on the fench until a price hike from Apple here in Norway made the model with AMD GPU almost 5000 KR (NOK) more expensive over night. Thats around $700 US. I found an store with old prices and didn't think twice. It will replace my desktops.

I just bought my first Mac. rMBPro 13" early 2015 refurbished. Coming from a 5 year old Asus laptop I don't care for Skylake that much. :) I know how to handle "tech urges" lol. There is always some new tech around the corner. If you want something now then buy it asap and don't look at rumors site/forums or blogs ;)

After about a year deliberating, I finally went and purchased my first Mac yesterday: a 2015 Retina MacBook Pro 15" with dedicated GPU.

Had a little tinker last night. Loving it.

Lowest I could find on my model. rMBP 15 2.5Ghz with M370X.
I got it for 22315 NOK, but that was yesterday at Komplett. They have now updated their prices. Actually most of the third party retailers have now updated their prices to reflect the ones you would find in the Apple store.

Elkjøp is also running a campaign on the model with integrated graphics for 18485,- NOK.

Tak Tak

Well... I figured I will contribute to this thread since this site has helped me tons. After 1 month of researching, I finally ordered a refurb 2015 rMBP 13". Just went with basic 2.7GHz i5, 8GB memory and 128GB storage. Figured I could just get a cheap external HD for backup. Maybe one day I can upgrade the internal storage.

I'm going to update my macbook pro 2008 with new hardware. the optical drive, trackpad and battery are all broken. I'm going to make a ssd drive and hdd fusion drive, upgrade the ram from 4GB to 8GB and fit a new battery. I'll leave the trackpad for now.

Here is my shopping list:

RAM: Komputerbay 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3 SODIMM (204 pin) 1066Mhz PC3 8500 for Apple 8 GB http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0031GNYBW?*Version*=1&*entries*=0

SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-2-5...p/B00P73B1E4/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8

Caddy: 2nd Hard Disk Drive Caddy IDE to SATA for Apple Macbook, Macbook Pro http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005NC38HM?*Version*=1&*entries*=0

Battery: Apple MacBook Pro 15 Aluminium Laptop Main Battery Pack 10.8v 4600mAh http://www.amazon.co.uk/MacBook-Alu...?ie=UTF8&qid=1443046615&sr=8-1&keywords=a1281

Are all these pieces of hardware good to go into a 2008 15" macbook pro together?

tools: phillips 00 screwdriver (this is just a normal phillips screwdriver, right?), T6 Torx Screwdriver, spudger

as for the HDD... I haven't decided yet. This hitachi HDD has been in here for about 4 years now and is probably dying slowly. It would be nice to have a new drive of at least 500GB. Any recommendations? I guess this is something I can add later, though, or would replacing the HDD at a later date cause problems with the fusion drive (never set this up before)

Thanks for the help!

Got my rMBP 2015 M370X dGPU today. Bit noisy when using Photoshop CC 2015, made my new computer appetite die. Actually packed it back to it's box, and put the Hackintosh up again. Have used my new Macbook 12 like 10x more just today.

but yeah...
Really love the keyboard and the ports on the big hunk of Aluminium.

Maybe sending it back...I actually think so.

UPDATE!
Keeping it.

Ordered a 2015 13-inch MBP/2.7ghz/16gb/256 refurb via Ebay last night for $1400. Still sealed from Apple with the full warranty. A savings of $250 off the best price I could find - B&H - as of YESTERDAY. Of course... Apple reduced the list price overnight! Still enough savings to pay for an extended warranty, etc.

Any feedback/experience with refurbished macs would be welcomed. Everything I read indicated that refurbs should be as good as new. A bit concerned about cosmetic defects that might affect resale.

I have a 2015 rMBP 13" 2.9/8/512 refurb and its perfect. It was in perfect cosmetic condition. Could not tell it was a refurb. I saw that same refurb on Apple's web site but went with the 512 SSD vs. the 16GB RAM. Excellent computer choice I'm sure you'll be super happy.

Got the refurb myself but had some weird ghosting/grey splotches "behind" the screen. Brought it to the Apple store and got a brand new (non-refurb) rMBP in its place. Got to open the box myself :)

Lucky dog! I'm playing on my new refurb now. No problems yet.

Damn I was gonna buy the m370x version but I was about 6 hours late, they went out of stock just before I pulled the trigger:( You're saying it somewhat louder than older models tho? I have the first model with the 650m but I wouldn't say it gets too loud unless i'm video editing, or light gaming. Even then it's a pretty chill fan noise unless i'm on Ultra or doing a final export. What exactly are you doing in Photoshop that's making it crazy loud?
