I love my new MBP!!!

Unplugged it at 5:45pm (17:45) 100% charge. At 10:43pm (22:43), my battery is currently at 40%...that will work for me.

Used Handbrake (just to test the speed), Safari and have been watching 1080p videos wireless on my local area network (I have 10s of thousands of movies/tv shows/anime/cartoons on my home server).

For my own personal use, this laptop is WAY overpowered and will last me for at least 3 years, assuming no problems. If you're on the fence, get off. This baby is worth it.

So I did it. I went the 2015 refurb route. I hope this was a good deal at the Apple refurb store: $2629

Still freaking expensive but I wanted the dGPU and I need the 1TB SSD and the SD Card slot. The 2.8 GHz CPU was the only one available so I got that. The 2.5GHz version would be 150 bucks cheaper but they didn't have them in the last few weeks (or i was too slow).

That will be more than enough for most users. The new SSDs in the 2016 tb MBP and the USB C slot will make most data transfers lightning fast so that shouldn't be an issue...I can't believe the adapter is that much of a turn-off.

B&H has plenty of deals on 2016s...that 1TB upgrade could be as little as $200 with a deal and not paying tax on it? It could be free.

So while I'm happy you got what you need, I think you spent a lot of money on a computer that's 18 months old...

If you get work done on it, cool...but $2600 that's a lot of scratch...

Agreed, it's a lot for a 18 month old refurb. Resale value will take a huge hit.

That is a lot of money, but significantly less than the equivalent 2016 model. The technology within these 2015 MBP's may be 18 months (or more) old, but the parts are brand new and while slightly slower with respect to the SSD and dGPU, not so much that most people would even notice. Plus if you happen to think the 2015 keyboard is better, and the complement of ports is superior for what you do, going for the 2015 MBP is a pretty easy choice - at least it was for me.

That were also my considerations.

In addition the fact that you can not replace/upgrade the SSD bothered me. It's ok as long as you have apple care but after that time you can not replace a failed SSD. The reverse is also true. If the MBP fails for some reason you can not take the SSD out and put it in a cheap used MBP.

I also had concerns about older hardware (scanners and such) that may or may not work through an USB adaptor.

My setup is such that I travel regularly to Europe where I have a place with monitor, charger, scanner and all that already sitting there. Getting a set of adaptors to carry back and forth or two sets of adaptors (one on each side of the atlantic) and making sure to never forget the HDMI adaptor in case I visit family made the old set of ports more appealing to me than the new MBP.

Of course looking at the MBP as such it is in all points superior to the 2015 model. Even to the point to justify the ~$400 price difference. However this is less about price than staying with what I'm used to and what works right now.

Also my strategy has always been to own two laptops that are 2-3 years apart. This way I always have a backup machine. So in two years I'll buy a coffee lake MBP (or a windows machine if Apple continues the thinning trend) and then I will be in the USB-C world.

I went back and forth with 2015 and 2016. Then I played with the Touch Bar one more time... I think its meant for someone like me. I am on my computer all the time. But nothing too technical. I think it will make surfing and email seconds faster.

Its how I justify the apple watch to people. It saves me dozens of seconds a day.... each one not ground breaking or meaningful, but for my job, time is money... so it does add up.

I took the 2.6 model and up'd the hard drive.

15-inch MacBook Pro - Space Grey

With the following configuration:
• Touch Bar and Touch ID
• 2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, Turbo Boost up to 3.5GHz
• 16GB 2133MHz memory
• 512GB PCIe-based SSD
• Radeon Pro 450 with 2GB memory
• Four Thunderbolt 3 ports
• Force Touch trackpad
• Accessory Kit
• Backlit Keyboard (English) & User’s Guide

Super pumped, in Canada, not being delivered until the 25th (at least)

Well after much to-ing and fro-ing, I bit the bullet and went for the 13" NTB MBP in silver. Was seriously considering the MacBook m5 as I don't need to do much heavy lifting but as I tend to keep my tech for a while I'm hoping it will cover me for any changes in what I do.

This is my first foray into Mac, so bring on Wednesday!!

So I'm back to the 2015 15" model 2.5ghz 16/512 and it just shipped today. This is the last of the testing between 2015 and 2016 models. I've made the decision.

Just bought an official Apple USB to USB-C A1632 adapter for my MBP 2016 15 inches, and it does not recognize the USB 3.0 32 GB flash drive. Other stuff works just fine - USB mouse, USB keyboard, iPhone, etc. But when I insert the flash drive, nothing happens, it does not appear in Finder, its tiny blue light doesn't twinkle, etc.

Is that expected? Maybe 32 GB is too much for this adapter? However flash drive works just fine on my old MBP 2012.

Is the flash drive formatted Journal or Fat? If it is formatted Mac OS extended Journal then I don't know, but if it is formatted Fat maybe try formatting to OS extended Journal. Of Course you will need to look at it in your 2012 machine.

Problem solved. Turns out my flash drive was almost full. I plugged it into MBP 2012, deleted 6 GB, plugged back into MBP 2016 - and, voilà, it appeared in Finder. And it's super fast - I copied 16 GB in less than 2 minutes!

It is still unclear why it worked on one laptop and did not work on another but I am glad it finally works anyway.

Just picked up a 2016 MacBook Pro from Best Buy on sale, 256gb i5 space grey. was think ng about a iPad Pro when announced in the spring, but I wanted a bit more power the pro gives me the flexibility of the iPad but more power in a small really well built package.

I ordered a late 2013 MBP from PowerMax in Portland, Oregon(Portlandia). Near as I can tell the processor is faster than the current late 2016 super skinny MBP's, and the only difference is the discrete video card.
Since I'm not a high level gamer, nor do I do rendering beyond a bit of iMovie, I don't need the card. It has GeekBench 4 scores excluding the graphic part, that are faster that the current SkyLake models: 2.6 ghz, 16 gb ram, 801.11AC wifi, 256 gb PCle Flash Drive, and all the ports that Apple forgot to put in. Only Thunderbolt 2, but even T-2 peripherals are difficult to find and cost $100 more than USB 3.

Good Deal for me, and .4mm fatter, so its a whale.

I just got notification the my 2015 15" MacBook Pro just shipped yesterday and should arrive Mon. I was surprised that it's being shipped from China. I didn't think Apple was making the 2015 model any longer and I thought it would have shipped from California from left over stock. I know when I ordered a refurb it came from CA but I didn't know brand new 2015 MacBook Pros were shipping from China.

So, after much consideration, I bit the bullet and put my order in for a maxed out 15" tMBP! Should be with me Feb 3rd.

The girlfriend will be a very happy recipient of my 2.6 2012 15" rMBP, I'm just hoping I'll be as happy with my new one!

Mid '12 13 inch MBP has been on the last of its legs now, out of warranty and showing its age. Needed a new Mac to run PS, LR, and other things. *Wanted to wait for the refresh but the computer constantly dying at varying battery %'s and other various issues prompted the new purchase*

2016 13 inch MBP TB in Space Grey
3.1GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor
16GB 2133MHz memory
256GB PCIe-based SSD
...and dongles/adapters.

Ordered Jan 10th
Estimated Arrival date: Jan 25-27
Actual delivery date: Jan 18

Very impressed. Problem now is I need to wait a week since I'm still overseas to pick it up once I'm back...

I've finally bit the bullet on the nTB MacBook Pro in Space Grey in the following configuration;
-2.0GHz Dual-core Intel Core i5
-16GB 1866MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM
-512GB PCIe-based SSD
-AppleCare

And of course the USB-C to USB Adaptor ;)

With the total damage being US$2041 after educational discount.

Last week I bought a tbMBP 13" MTO 3.1ghz/16gb/1tb.

This is my 3rd mac laptop. My previous two machines are a mid-2011 MBA and a mid-2013 MBA.

I seriously considered getting this mid-2015 11" MBA on ebay instead of this new MBP. Closing at $860, that is obviously a much cheaper alternative to what I went with.

Just about all of the work I do is done on a my personal mac, so this is a tool for me.

Things I considered in the end:
  • Benchmarks.
  • The screen and ability to drive multiple high res external monitors.
  • Portability.
In the end, I think the MBP was about $700 overpriced for the specs. I considered that apple tax. But the other ~$1100 I think could reasonably be justified across the screen and other hardware on this new machine.

My biggest concern is still portability. The form factor of the 11" makes it so easy to use quickly almost anywhere. I hope the 13" offers a similar experience.

Upgrading from a Mid 2009 15" MBP to a 13" 3.3/16gb/256ssd. After a quick trial at a local Apple Store I was convinced but still skeptical about the TB and trackpad. Contemplated this purchase for the last few weeks and I am now playing the waiting game. The old one served me well after upgrading the RAM to 8gb and the HDD to a SSD, it lasted quite awhile. I am hoping this ouch awe will do the same.

After shuffling between the old MBP, a 2013 iMac, wife's MBA, and iPad Air 2, I figured it was time.

My only concern is the TB and how much I'll be able to sell myself that this was worth it.

On a side note, at the Apple Store one of the sales rep was debating with me that Apple will never sell a touchscreen MacBook. I just thought how narrow minded some of them have become and in foresight of their current lineup such as the iPad Pro and iPhones I wouldn't be surprised if this is something Apple will consider sooner than later.

It's out for delivery today...yippee!!!
2015 16/512

Mine has been stuck on (for delivery to Sweden) "Shipment information received" since the 17th. Ordered January 1. It is supposed to be delivered today the 24th. I called Apple and they assured me it will arrive today. Does not seem likely. Strange.

I've heard others say that Apple is no longer producing the 2015 MacBook Pro but that is not true. I have received my brand new 2015 2.5GHz 16/512 and according to coconut battery it's showing manufacture date Jan 09, 2017 which was only 4 days before I ordered. It also shows only 1 cycle on the battery.

Apple is no longer producing the 2015 with the dedicated graphics, however the model with the internal Iris Pro they are still producing and mine confirms a very recent build date.

(I didn't realize how much I love this 2015 keyboard over the 2016 model which I returned)

The new keyboard is at most, if possible, an acquired taste. I kind of like it but I have to constantly remind myself not to type with too much force or else my fingers will ache.
