Today WORD crashes while typing a one paragraph document. The 2017 15" MBP with touch bar is the most gltichy, laggy and unstable PC or Mac I've ever used.

Try a clean install. If that doesn't work, get the 2015 model.
Thanks, I'll give it a try when I have free time. But, based on both my 2008 and 2017 MBP behaving much the same way, I think it is the OS and have an easy way for others to try and replicate it. If you have WORD (I don't know about other word processors) create a doc with a few normal-sized paragraphs that you type or paste in. Set your MBP's system preferences for the shortest cursor delay and the fastest speed of cursor movement. Next place your cursor somewhere in the middle of a paragraph and press and hold the left or right arrow key. My cursor waits, jumps four characters, stops, jumps four characters, etc., and slowly moves across the line. It's faster when typing in chrome, but the errors due to shallow key travel and the touch bar combined with laggy weird cursor movement preventing easy correction make WORD almost unusable...on Apple's top of the line MBP. And WORD is the simplest software I use.

Unless specifically designed to do so, computers never measure time accurately. For scientific purposes we sometimes need to know and control the actual frame rate at which images are being captured. And while you can set software to capture any number of images per second, the actual capture rate will never be what the software prescribes because the machine's own OS will interrupt the software to draw the screen, receive communications from ports, and perform other activities which interfere with running timed operations. It is possible to purchase a machine that will run the software and lock other processes out, but I believe my symptoms involving slow glitchy performance indicate that the issues with Finder, WORD, Adobe PRO etc are due to an OS that stinks, and Activity Monitor confirms that the OS is using three times more system resources than any application. System usage jumps to 20-30% just moving the cursor, and i believe Apple says this is normal. No wonder the cursor jerks around in WORD.

I just bought a Late 2016 13" MacBook Pro 256GB. First Pro MacBook and I'm loving the screen, coming from a 2015 MacBook Air, then a Lenovo Ideapad. One of the best investments, I believe I've made in a long time.

Well this is my first refurb purchase and I honestly cannot tell the difference between refurbished and brand new. The savings are significant, that's for sure and the laptop itself is a joy to work with.

Here's a little run down of the product itself as well as the refurb experience.

Force Touch Trackpad - not game changing, but turned me from a tapper to a clicker. The fact that I can click anywhere on the trackpad is great and it feels so damn nice.
Retina Display - I was coming from a 2010 15" Macbook Pro, which looked pretty good in isolation. Once I booted up the 2560 x 1600 display on this machine, I felt like I had a new set of eyes. The clarity. The brightness. The colours. Beautiful!
Flash Storage - Read and write speeds are incredibly fast!
Refurbished Product - I've always been the type of person to purchase my technology brand new. I didn't want someone else's grubby hands on it, smashing the Spacebar too hard or mistreating the battery. But with ~$400 saving we get from the refurb store, this was too hard to resist. The condition it came in was brand new. Not a scratch, dent, mark or fingerprint anywhere on the device. The battery had 6 cycles and the screen is pixel perfect.

If you'd like to know anything else, I'd be happy to answer.

I was looking at the refurb section yesterday before I went to BB and bought a new MacBook. I've bought refurbs before in the past, and for the most part, I couldn't tell that my previous MacBook 2010 unibody was a refurb. The only thing that set it off was that something was wrong with the logic board, and I had to get it replaced almost a year later. After that one and only repair, it lasted me until I got my MacBook Air in 2015. Right now a former friend is using it in 2017 with no problems. So, if I had a choice and if I could've gotten a refurb then and there without waiting for shipping and handling, I would've. But I don't regret my decision at all.

Just now working on a document in Word that I plan to distribute by email as a pdf. I went through my usual workflow and saved the final version of the document I was working on with the name I was going to send it as. Then I saved it again as a pdf. I opened the pdf in Preview to check it, and saw something I wanted to change. I went back to the Word document and made the change, and then saved the document in Word. I then saved it again, but this time as a pdf. When I did, the conversion window with the time bar locked and I realized I had left the old version of the file with the same name open in Preview. But rather than provide a warning that the file was in use and couldn't be saved, or changing the open version, saving the document brought up the beachball and crashed Preview and everything else that was open in it. Yeah Apple! They USED to make stable machines with compatible OS, hardware and software.....

EDIT: Closed Preview and tried opening the pdf from Finder. Nothing happened. Went back to the doc in Word and saved it as a PDF again. It asked if I wanted to replace the existing version, and, when I clicked yes, it brought up the beachball and crashed Word. But, really, I don't expect Apple's new $3000 MBP to be able to save a two paragraph Word file containing only standard text as a PDF as, after all, it's got a touch bar and big trackpad, and they spend a LOT on advertising... And it's FUN spending half an hour saving a doc that should take a fraction of a second, as this is progress Tim Cook style. You remember him, the guy who asked for lots of extra time to hand in his battery homework, and who in the end didn't finish the assignment. How much does he get paid?

EDIT2: Turns out Word couldn't write over the old pdf even when Preview was closed. So I deleted the file in Finder and then saved as a pdf again in Word. Went to read it in Preview again and to make sure it would open, and I found another change I wanted to make. This time I closed Preview first but Word still wouldn't overwrite the old file and crashed. But it does have those cool icons in the touchbar, and being able to save what I'm working on really isn't that important a feature....

After going from a 2015 rMB to a 2016 nTB MPB, 2016 TB MBP, 2016 rMB (M5) and a 2016 nTB MPB in the span of a month I'm finally comfortable after getting a refurbished 2015 rMBP 15 (Base Model).

I had a late 2013 15 inch base but sold it thinking I could do better -- NOPE!

Nothing like USB ports and 16GB RAM to Make Mac Life Great Again!

Same for me, though I opted for the 1TB SSD. Have you gotten yours yet? (I ordered the day before and am using normal shipping)
Mine is actually scheduled to arrive today! Shipped from Shanghai to the States. Unfortunately, I had it shipped to my parents house (tax free) and I have to work this afternoon and most of the day tomorrow so won't actually get it in my hands likely until Sunday.

Adding a 1TB HD would have been nice, but I'm just going to get one of those new Samsung external SSD drives w/ USB 3.1 instead for when I need it.

I'd love to know what else you're running and if you restored from backup/etc. I used Word probably 8 hours yesterday and had 0 issues across several files. Do you know which build number you're on?

Quick question: It seems that, when I connect the charging cable, the MacBook Pro plays a short sound, similar to the one from the iPhone, even when it is muted. Can I somehow switch this off?

I have a question about refurbished items. Are they basically what Best Buy calls Open box or it can be something that was used for a year?

I dont remember if I said before that I ordered, from Apple, in December 2015, a top of the line 2015 15" MBP refurbished. I had a 2012 refurb 13" mbp and never a problem with it. But within the week that I got the new one, it crashed 3 times, I thought I had made a mistake this time. I called Apple Support, they had me boot up in safe mode and here it is 1.5 years later and it has run flawlessly.

I give it a workout with software editing (not thru the Photos App) photos I take. Fans are running noisely, never heard them with my 2012 mbp. But other than finding out I definitely didnt need the 1T storage that I bought, very happy with my refurb.

Just picked up the new base 13 mbp to upgrade my macbook 12 2015 base model. I let it transfer all my files over last night so I haven't had any time to play around yet. Hopefully this coming weekend!

Order through an APR 5 weeks ago; still nothing, and no indication on when the Mac will arrive. Can't cancel a CTO at this APR so I guess I'm screwed. They are saying I should wait at least 8 more weeks before they will give me my money back. hooray

I got mine a week ago, and it's been alright so far. The keyboard has taken some relearning coming from the 12" first-gen keyboard. I feel like that keyboard was less "clicky" and seemed slightly softer. It also seems like the 12" had much better battery than this. I can get maybe 5-6 hours out of it with key lights off. That being said, I got the computer for ~$1000 at my job so I'm not complaining. I sold my 12" for $600 and it was almost 2 years old.

In my experience refurbs are indistinguishable from a new Mac. I've bought a few of them and have never noticed a difference. They are spotless and have always came with a new battery. Refurbs are a great way to get a nice discount on a like new Mac.

She arrived today and is BEAUTIFUL. Literally love everything about this machine.

-After all the reviews here about the keyboard, I was nervous how it would feel/sound/exc. It is literally a keyboard and doesn't feel any different. It does, however, make me type way faster and the individual lights in the keys are a nice little touch.
-Trackpad is what's getting me. This thing is HUGE and WOOO I'm loving it.
-Touch Bar - I'm already getting used to it. It is a beautiful compliment and a great help (I mean, I'm able to scrub videos/songs/exc. from any application, instant new tab, exc. Too much more to discover) I can't wait to see how far this tool goes.
-THE SCREEN. My last book was the 2013 rMBP and this screen shook me when I first saw it. THE CONTRAST, THE COLORS, THE EVERYTHING. It is sooo beautiful and clean and crisp it's amazing.
-Battery. I'm coming from a computer that had a maximum of 45 minutes worth of battery life (don't ask) and this is lasting hours  to say I'm happy is an understatement.

I haven't tested any intense programs yet since I'm still just gawking at this beautiful machine but I'll update this post soon.

Overall, this forum made me nervous about buying this and I am SO happy I did. This is an INCREDIBLE machine. Don't listen to the drama! BUY THIS.

I bought an open box tbMBP a few days ago to replace my dead 2011 mbp.

In short this thing is a complete dud. Especially when plugged into my 27" thunderbolt apple display. This is the buggiest mac I've ever owned. Really bad screen flickering (that the update didn't fix) Can't run photoshop, not once has it asked for my touchID, sometimes the keyboard won't input, imessages/icloud won't sync, TB is all wonky. I'm sure there is a reason why it was an open box.

There are some aspects of it that I like but I'm realizing how reliable my 2011 and 2013 mbp's were. Debating on giving another tbMBP a try, a 2015, or even just repairing the 2011 logic board for $600 and rolling with that for another year.

I have to make a decision tonight because I just need something reliable AF for work. But I don't know what to do.

Guys, it's been 6 months since the launch of the tbMBPs. Have all the issues been ironed out by now, or should I wait another 6 months? The problem is that I don't have an easy way of returning a mac once I purchased it, and my 2012 rmbp is on its last legs.

I purchased a 13" tbmbp in early november, but returned it after 3 days due to the persistent graphical glitches during startup and restarting (i found that a consistent way of reproducing them is downloading the recovery partition, and rebooting into it).
