I picked up the base model 13 inch with Touch Bar. I think it's going to work quite well for my purposes and it's a beautiful laptop. I'm not really a huge fan of laptops in general, but I think it will be very complimentary to my desktop and very much appreciated for the times I'm on the road.

I asked for the Space Gray at Best Buy, but I ended up with the Silver. I'm actually quite happy with the mistake because I think I like Silver better now that I see it (they only had gray on display).

Agreed that silver is better. Currently on a base 13" TB like you, but waffling back and forth with the 15". Don't need the power, but want the screen size....

Just ordered the refurb 15.4-inch MacBook Pro 2.9GHz (512/460) after months of lurking, reading good and bad reviews, and looking at countless blogs. I was thinking of maybe waiting for the 2nd iteration of the new design, but then I followed the most common advice given here: 'get it if you need it now'.

I'm coming from a trusty 17" early-2011 MBP. Hope the new machine will be awesome for iOS/Android Dev, emulators, Photoshop/Lightroom, basic 4K video editing, and light gaming.

Anything I should know about the new machine? :) This will be my first retina display laptop; I'm thinking that will be a great change!
How long did it take for you to get it?

Hi everybody. I have MacBook Pro 13' 2016 nTb. I like it.
Is there a point to order a glass screen protector? Won't it damage the screen after removing it?
I read about this issue on previous MacBook generations.

Being that it's not a touch screen, there is really no point in a glass screen protector. As far as damage I can only speak for phones and glare protectors on laptops in the past. They removed without issue.

Just got a refurbished 2TB MacBook Pro 2016 TB 15" and last night, it died while in sleep... I am hoping this laptop doesn't have any issues. It was literally 8 hours in sleep mode and went from 94% to 0% (DEAD). I thought it was broken at first

Today I got a mid-2015 15" MacBook Pro, bought it used from a co-worker for $1500. I am in love. This is my 2nd Macbook Pro, my previous was a mid-2012 13", i've also owned a C2D Mac Mini, and a i7 27" iMac.

I'm in the market for a refurb 2016 tMBP and am debating between 450/455/460. Plan on keeping it for the next 4-5 years through grad school etc.

Main uses... well, a bit of video/graphic editing (minimal) and very admittedly probably won't get the maximal use out of 460 but I'm itching to get the maxed out one just because... well, I'm excessive. Will mostly be used for paper writing, major stats analysis and applications, and a bit of coding. For reference, I'm upgrading from a mid-2015 512 m370x 2.7gHz.

Any thoughts? I'm a bit concerned with power usage in the 460 vs other ones - is it a significant drain on the battery life? Should I even upgrade? What is life?

Ordered a refurb 2015 13" macbook pro / 256gb /16gb ram model...been waiting awhile to catch one in the refurbished store. Upgrading from an early 2011 13" macbook pro, pretty excited!

Hey guys, I have a 15" 2011 macbook pro. I love the thing, but I just got some bad news. Supposedly Apple won't replace the top case because it is over 5 years old and the laptop is marked as 'vintage'. So the middle row of keys do not work.

I had planned on buying the 2016 macbook pro but the price is just insanity, especially considering I don't like the large trackpad or the touchbar. I am leaning toward getting a 2015 fully loaded MBP. Any idea when they are going to be available on the Apple store? What about the price? The 2016's with solid specs come out to about $2400 pre tax for the refurb models. I was hoping to spend under $2k for a loaded 2015. Thanks.

Unfortunately they won't be coming back. They wouldn't put a fully loaded 2015 with the dGPU back on the market as it would compete directly with their 2016 offerings. Your best bets are to go through eBay or CL.

I have the model you're looking to get and at the refurbished price, it's attractive especially because you're getting a practically new model. The 460 doesn't consume anything when not in use, and a lot when in use which is what you get for any laptop with a dgpu. I get around 2 hours if the 460 is being used with the fans on full blast. Although with your current system, I don't know how much more performance you're gaining vs. the new one.

Damn. Well I don't have a problem with buying it online. Are there major issues with scams/product quality when buying through ebay? How do these look to you? Could you say roughly what this computer should cost?

Thanks for the insight. I think I might go ahead and place an order for a refurb 455... I could use the extra $100 savings to buy some of the dongles etc, while recognizing that the 455 does offer quite the significant upside over the M370x. I doubt I'll need a 460 as I don't do very much graphic intensive work nor do I have the monitors that wold require such intense graphics. Appreciate it!

Difficult to estimate, but for what it's worth I'm trying to sell my maxed out mid-2015 (512, M370X) for about $25-2600 CAD which works out to ~$1950USD. For reference, my unit is still under manufacturer 1 year warranty, has 9 cycles on its battery, in perfect condition and remains eligible for Applecare should a potential buyer be interested in it.

I suggest looking at your local CL or something, and if the prices don't vary that much go ahead and go through that as there is less stress vs. buying online - but if you communicate well with the seller and pay via Paypal it's usually pretty secure. I've made a few laptop purchases over eBay that have gone without issue.

I am interested in buying the macbook pro TB base 13 with 16 GB.

Do they have the base TB with 16 GB RAM available in the store or is it only via online?

A 13" nTB refurb is about $30 cheaper than buying new at Best Buy. Is there any reason that buying from Apple directly, albeit a refurb, is preferable to buying from Best Buy? The fact that it's new, I can pick it up today, and basically the same price has me leaning towards BB.

really the only thing would be the 14-day return policy (not sure of BB's return policy) - but if you're sure that you're going to keep it and the satisfaction of buying new is palpable for you, just go with BB!

Today I got my new 13" nTB MacBook Pro (base model). I upgraded from a MacBook Air and so far I'm really loving it! The screen is miles ahead of the Air and I'm liking the keyboard (although I feel like it will take a while to properly get used to it). I do a lot of writing so the keyboard is really important to me, but so far it feels nice to use and I have a feeling I'm going to love it over time.

My only concern is that the machine feels hot? I haven't really done much with it yet so didn't expect that (the Air was always ultra cool). Anyone else experiencing this?

Just received my 15" tbMBP 2.6/512/460. Sweet machine so far.. am still debating whether to keep or return and go back to my 2015 mid - wait for revision 2 and see what happens.. nevertheless, good first impression. Still getting use to the keyboard but not experiencing many of the KB problems others have mentioned.

One unrelated question: do other owners of the 2016 tbMBP recognize a noticebly louder ambient fan noise compared to previous MBPs? I imagine it may have something to do with the new(er) temperature regulation, or I might just be going crazy but is the ambient noise a lot more noticeable in the new machines?

What are you doing with the machine? I have noticed zero fan noise with mine, but some ambient heat.

Literally just browsing/studying in a very quiet room. Can hear it whirring very quietly.... Nothing on your end, even if you put your ears up to it?

That sounds like a problem with the computer. You should probably get that checked immediately.

Nothing on my end, even while running multiple heavy-use apps. Dead quiet.

Hrm. Okay - will do. Appreciate it. Just picked up the refurb and is still within the 14 days... will bring it in and see what they say. If it's not a quick fix might just return it as I'm going away for a month and would be out of window.... sigh.
