My 13" 16GB, 512GB 2.9Ghz Touch Bar just arrived from China, took 8 days which accounted for 4 days at Easter.

Mac looks fine, however the shipping & the laptop box is crushed pretty badly in two corners, I really don't think I should but can't help but be bugged by it.

Is this worth caring about?
You need to get a new box in case you ever sell the thing.

Called Apple, have to send the whole laptop back and wait for a new one if I want a new box. What a pain.
If you escalate and ask nicely you can get them to send your new one before you send back the current one, so that you aren't left without a device.

(They may want to place a hold on your credit card, especially if your Apple ID doesn't have much purchase history. If you can't manage such a large hold on your card (I certainly couldn't!) then they can ship it to an Apple Store for you to pick up instead.)

Decided I should have gone with the 15" all along (I've had the 13" since they came out).

So I just sold my 13" and ordered this bad boy!

Excited.

How are delivery speeds at the moment? Are they arriving before the estimated window at all? At launch they were arriving towards the end of the estimate.
Shipped today! Apple estimates delivery on Friday, but UPS says Monday. I know who I hope is right!

Either way that will be an arrival at least two days earlier than the start of the estimated window.

So today is delivery day (15"/16GB/512GB/455)

That primarily means checking the delivery tracker to ensure it's still 'out for delivery' and looking out of the window every time there's a merest hint of a vehicle engine sound.

Hurry up!

I just placed an order for a 2016 Space Gray 15"/16GB/256GB/450 MBP. This will be my first new Mac since the 2011 Air I am still using. Shipping says it will be delivered Friday. Fingers crossed they get it out in time so I don't have to wait over the weekend.

Ended up in Best Buy yesterday and had an awesome experience. I came in expecting to just play with them, maybe order some accessories, and then end up ordering the computer online so I could customize the specs. However, we weighed out the pros and cons and he ultimately sold me on the 15in. base model. I think that will serve my needs.

In some ways, however, I knew more than the sales guy. He said he was working on a degree in like digital design, so he uses Macs all the time but there were a few things I told him he had wrong. For instance, he said that the 13in only had two ports. The 13in without touch bar has two ports, with touch bar has four. He also didn't realize they had stopped including the three pronged long power cord piece in the box.

It finally arrived, after a disastrous story (both UPS and Apple to blame), wasting several hours, 100 miles of driving, and a lot of stress.

And it's bad... :(

Tri-tone colours, scuffed air vent, popping/high-pitched keys, and a weird squeal coming from it - made louder any time a Thunderbolt 3 device is connected (you can hear it from a normal typing position).

Sigh.

Time for a return and a swap.. or go with a refurb. Super happy with my refurb, and no Q/C issues as others have experienced.

That should've never left the factory floor, the hell is Apple's QA?

Indeed. I would consider a refurb, however the only way to get a replacement without having a £2,500+ taken out of circulation (i.e. in buying one, and waiting for the refund on the other) is to get the exact same product again.

Apple's QA has been shocking in my experience since the last couple of years. It's disgraceful, and I have little confidence that the replacement won't have something else - probably worse - wrong with it.

(It literally takes 30 seconds to spot these things, that's the infuriating part. Apple's attempt to save 30 seconds of labour time per unit costs me two whole weeks in 'waiting for the replacement' time.)

that's why I always buy a refurb from Apple. Apple refurbs have been through a strict refurbishing process: examined head to toe, all defects and worn areas replaced/repaired. That computer of yours would have never passed Apple's QA process in their refurb department. Sadly, somewhere in China, someone didn't care and it got boxed up and passed on to you. You need to make some calls to Apple's corporate office and plead your case. They'll take care of you, I promise. Do it!

My replacement is already preparing for dispatch, and I can keep this one in the meantime. :)

Well my 15 inch touch bar arrived today and so far I'm happy. The display is amazing. The first thing I noticed was how small it seemed. Seriously, the new design has seriously made this machine sleek and sexy. It's not much bigger than my 13 MacBook Air! When it first arrived I thought they had sent me the wrong size.

It really is just a thin machine. I have mine by my old computer until I can get that wiped to hand down to my parents. The 2011 MBP I have is so thick compared to this new beauty.

Yeah ok, i had second thoughts on ordering the 15" - but now I see that I'll be just fine :)

After reading numerous reviews and forums, I was hesitating upgrading to the larger size, but I'm happy I did. I purchased the space grey in the refurbished store and I personally think those are the best deal. You save a couple hundred dollars and get a FULL warranty from Apple. Every purchase I've made has arrived looking brand new.

super happy with my 15" too. just a little bit concerned about overall battery life but we'll stick it out and see what happens.. congrats on your purchase!

I'm not sure about the battery life. I just received it last night and was downloading, surfing and playing with it. Hope it lasts ok. Not too worried tho.

I have been testing it over the last few days. I seem to get a good long while out of it before it's time for me to go to bed and plug it in. I'm an insomniac as of late, so I'm frequently on the computer for the better part of the evening hours. Last night I was probably on there working and taking the occasional YouTube break from 6:00pm-1:00am. It was probably at about 32% when I plugged it in last night.

Not the best, but having come from an older machine whose battery life was no longer what it once was... I can't say it has been especially problematic for me.

So I was holding off buying a new MacBook Pro but I was in my local JBhifi when I stopped and had a look at a Mac section. I couldn't resist having a play with a 15" 2016 MacBook Pro. Man I fell in love. But I still wasn't prepared to spend $4000+ on the model I wanted.

I've also been kinda waiting what Kaby Lake update would bring. Well, seeing that Kaby Lake probably won't show up until Q3 this year, I decided to bite the bullet and purchase a reburbished 2.7/16/512/455 in Space Grey. Saving over 700 bones I'm am absolutely over the moon! I should receive it on Tuesday!

My 2016 Space Gray 15"/16GB/256GB/450 MBP showed up as scheduled & I have been hammering away at it for the past week and I am in love. This is not my first refurbished purchase from Apple, but it is my first refurb computer. I am so impressed with this machine so far and I have barely scratched the surface of what it can do with the touch bar. Speaking of scratching the surface, this thing came to me in immaculate condition. Not one scratch, ding, dent, discoloration, etc. It's showroom perfect, and aside from a couple software glitches that are common known to iOS, it has performed flawlessly.

I will again echo the statement by many that if you don't need to get the latest & greatest immediately, and you can wait until the refurbished units show up in the online Apple Store, there is no reason to pay full price.

This has been my experience as well. My 2011 MB Air would last about 90 minutes under heavy use before the battery died. So while some have complained about the battery life on the new touch bar MBP, it's really all about perspective. For me, any machine that would last half a day would be a major upgrade, so the fact that I don't have to tote my charging brick around with me all the time is like being freed from the power shackles.

Well I received my new Mac today! It's a refurb but this thing is Brand New! The screen is gorgeous, I love the keyboard and the touch bar is pretty slick. I've only been using it for about an hour but awesome for far!

Yep, I just stick with refurbs (since edu discount method no longer works lol), cheaper and good as new and the money you saved can go towards AppleCare or whatever else you need, or even more food (in my case, a bit extra sushi).
