It finally arrived, after a disastrous story (both UPS and Apple to blame), wasting several hours, 100 miles of driving, and a lot of stress.

And it's bad... :(

Tri-tone colours, scuffed air vent, popping/high-pitched keys, and a weird squeal coming from it - made louder any time a Thunderbolt 3 device is connected (you can hear it from a normal typing position).

Sigh.

My replacement is already preparing for dispatch, and I can keep this one in the meantime. :)

A week later, and my replacement is here!

And it sucks!

But first, a look at the good things: the colour is correct this time! Look how dark the previous one was by comparison (yes, believe it or not, these are both space grey machines!)...

But, even more keys are popping. I can't take photos of that, so moving on to things I can illustrate...

The Touch Bar is tinged red - in a big way.

The old one - i.e. the 'correct' one this time:

The new, bad, one:

Sigh. Considering my options.

Does anyone know if OLED panels tend to improve their colour over time? (In other words, should I leave it a few days?)

Yep, I just stick with refurbs (since edu discount method no longer works lol), cheaper and good as new and the money you saved can go towards AppleCare or whatever else you need, or even more food (in my case, a bit extra sushi).

howcome edu discount doesnt work?

Before you could just visit Apple's edu/uni link and order through there, no verification needed, you don't even need to be a student. Now you have to go through some portal, UniDays or whatever it's called, before you can proceed any further.

That tinged red color is terrible looking in my opinion. In fact I am praying Apple releases a 15" this fall without the TB. But if they don't, the TB seriously needs a revision already. The contrast alone is awful almost pixelated.

Agreed. It's going back. Third time lucky... annoying because pretty much everything else was good, and the next one will almost certainly have something else wrong with it. How it gets through quality control is beyond me - the red tinge is so glaringly obvious.

This "good" quality control and the old processors are the only things preventing me to buy a 15" MBP.
But I am not sure if I will be willing to wait till October to buy the updated version with again old processors...
Apple should get their problems fixed asap, or should bite the bullet and update soon, replacing the 2016-version with a bug-free 2017-version.
I mean, the MBP is not bad, but at this price-range there should be a much better quality control and you should get the latest tech, not two year old tech.

bought a new mac and it came damaged out of the box. The screen is broken, The body has no damage what so ever. i am going to return it tomorrow

ps i am unable to upload picture. it says failed.

Just pulled my refurbished mbp out of the box and the touchID button is misaligned. Anyone else had issues with this?

Gosh. Shows that the whole "refurbished models are inspected and better than new models" thing is largely hyperbole.

I called apple and the guy said it looked normal to him... Not sure if I'm just super OCD because it's driving me mad

Just picked up a lightly used early 2015 MBP 13" (2.7, 8gb, 256gb) with a Magic Mouse 2, and apple care till Jan 2019 for $850 off craigslist. Only 62 cycles on the battery and not a scratch anywhere, and came with boxes. Decent deal?

Depends how your going to use it, 8/256 is not much but you know that already right?

Yeah I know. I have a mid 2014 MPB 15" (16gb, 512, 750m) that I don't use to its potential so I wanted to down size a little. I plan to sell it soon.

Ordered my MBP almost 2 weeks ago, its been in "Export Scan" in Shanghai since Thursday morning on UPS. This normal? Says the expected delivery is Tuesday but it hasn't even left China if UPS tracking is correct lol

I went with a refurbished 13" rMBP with touchpad, 16 GB Ram, i7 and 512 GB SSD. I've never bought a refurbished Apple product before so I'm a bit weary but from what I've read they're usually pretty good and the savings was enough to warrant a chance ($380). Fingers crossed! :)

I am primarily a .Net developer so having enough ram and the best CPU I could get for the 13" for Windows in Parallels is important to me.

I've genuinely lost track of my laptop issues and journeys since release day, but after seemingly having tried all of the new range and a 12" Macbook, I've just received a refurb 13" TouchBar model with 16GB RAM and am absolutely delighted with it.

I just received my 13" in the same model and the N and Delete keys both sound like they are sticking. Surprisingly loud actually. This is my 4th MacBook Pro in 2 weeks. 3 15's and now this maxed out 13". I tried the 13 because someone from Apple executive relations told me they had less issues with those. Regardless, another MacBook Pro 2016 failure. I'm not really sure what to do next.

Aw man, I'm sorry to hear you've been having those issues. Were the 15" refurbished models as well? Also, if there's an issue like you've been having to you go to the Apple Store or call them since it's a refurb.

The 15" were all brand new. The only reason I went with the refurb 13" is that I wanted 16gb of ram, and after having 3 machines, I refused to pay more for the 4th one.

Yeah, understandable.

So this 13" N key has stopped sounding like it's sticking to the bottom of the machine. The delete key still sounds a little wonky, but I'll see how it holds up. I have 14 days.

That said, the guy from Apple called me today and said he'd follow up next week to see how things are going, and that we would "have a conversation in regards to what Apple will do to "apologize" for the experience that I have had."

No idea what that means.

Also: How do the 13" i7 owners find their battery life? Mine seems to be dropping relatively quickly...
