Guys, it's been 6 months since the launch of the tbMBPs. Have all the issues been ironed out by now, or should I wait another 6 months? The problem is that I don't have an easy way of returning a mac once I purchased it, and my 2012 rmbp is on its last legs.

I purchased a 13" tbmbp in early november, but returned it after 3 days due to the persistent graphical glitches during startup and restarting (i found that a consistent way of reproducing them is downloading the recovery partition, and rebooting into it).

I'd wait. Supposedly the update fixed the graphical glitches, but it didn't do anything for the 15" tbMBP I purchased a few days ago. Currently I have to unplug from my display to do any real work as I get a complete graphical meltdown when connected to my thunderbolt display. This is the main problem I have amongst other many other little bugs and glitches between hardware and software.

There are others who are perfectly happy and well adjusted to the tbMBP. What is striking to me is I constantly read things like: "It took sending back the tbMBP 1-5x but I finally got one that works and I'm super happy!" I know this isn't the norm, but I can't take that risk as I need this thing to run flawlessly for work and can't have any downtime.

I'd wait until the next version, let apple iron out the kinks. I think what I'll do is purchase a 2015 right now and reevaluate next year once the updated ones come out and there is more feedback.

In my experience refurbs are indistinguishable from a new Mac. I've bought a few of them and have never noticed a difference. They are spotless and have always came with a new battery. Refurbs are a great way to get a nice discount on a like new Mac.
Thank you very much for your answer. It helped me make a decision. I have ordered a refurbished 2015 MBP. I am having it shipped to the store. I will inspect it there, and if not happy with the state of the item, I will opt out there.

So far so good. I don't know how I'm going to connect it to my external monitor yet haha or my iPhone but it's a pretty solid device.

Any tips from anyone who has the same machine?

It has been a month since I bought my MacBook Pro 13'' with Touch Bar and I can say that it was worth it. I really enjoy this computer. The Photoshop starts really fast.

I could recommand this computer to all people who are thinking about buying a laptop. The user experience is so much better than on any PC laptop I have ever had.

Just got my Macbook Pro 13.3" mid-2010 model from eBay! It's definitely seen some wear and tear but even before upgrading anything this machine is buttery smooth! Never had a Mac before in my life but if a 7 year old computer is running this well on El Capitan then I'm certainly very impressed.

I've replaced the swollen battery with a brand new one and traded the mechanical hard drive for a spare Crucial MX100 SSD I had lying around, and plan to upgrade to 8 GB of RAM soon. Sierra's running beautifully on this machine, and if this machine ever bites the dust then I will gladly replace it with a brand new MBP. :)

I just purchased a 2015 Macbook Pro with 512SSD and maxed it out to 16GB ram with an i7 processor! I believe I made the most beneficial decision for myself instead buying the 2016 one or waiting for the upcoming one.

I'm really excited! Now I must emotionally detach myself from my outdated 8 year old (soon to be 9 this year) 2009 Macbook Pro :D

I just bought the USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter from the Apple Store when I bought mine. It has an HDMI port, a USB port and a USB-C Charging port. Works pretty good for my needs.

I've had my 15" tbMBP for a couple of months now, and I can safely say that I'm loving it. Going through the points that people complain about the most:

1. Touch bar
Gimmicky at best, though I do like having brightness and color sliders, it really doesn't offer anything over the touchpad. And I never realized how little I used the function keys until they were gone. Plus there are some functions that Adobe has incorporated that are really nice.

2. Touchpad
Having a large touchpad works wonders in Illustrator and Photoshop, and since I type with my hands floating over the keys I haven't noticed the plan problems people talk about

3. Keyboard
I never minded short-travel keys, and I kinda like the new keyboard since it feels less "spongey" than the old MacBook keyboards. I have a soft touch so the reported clacking hasn't affected me.

4. USB-C:
It's nice to be able to charge my laptop form either side, and the lack of USB-A ports has only bothered me in one situation, which I'll address in the next point. Again, I've never realized how little I used these ports until they were gone.

5. Dongles
I bought two dongles I've needed for work, a USB-A to USB-C adapter (for an external disc drive), and a 2.5-inch external HDD enclosure (which I cannibalized aa 512gb HDD from an old dell laptop I had laying around) for some extra storage.

So far the MBP does everything I need it to do, since I mostly use it as a work machine. As far as future-proofing goes, I dunno, but this was the right computer at the right time, and I don't see the problems so many people have with it.

Hi, I just got my MBP 13 with TB, upgraded to i5 3.1GHz and 16GB RAM.
Switched from Windows 10, would appreciate if anyone could send some keyboard shortcut and others "not to miss" guide to me.
After playing with my MBP for few hours, everything looks fine, it's fast and flawless to run the photo editing software I intended to run. The bottom just a bit warm which I think this is normal.
Thank you.

I am experiencing a similar transition for the past few months. I weaned off Macs for the last couple years and had been using Win10. I also never used Macs for work, so my usage is now quite different. Shortcuts and hotkeys vary on what you're doing. For general OS, it's simply replacing control with command, e.g. copy, paste, underline, new window, etc. Screenshots are quite different, and MS Office can be totally different as well. For the most part it's not affecting me too much. I keep a text file on my desktop handy for often used shortcuts as reminders. I've copied and pasted from various searches online to a single file of most used. What you use most often will probably be different so I recommend you do the same.

I agree that the MBP is a piece of work. I have not missed a beat using the MBP for business even though I had anticipated some slowdown here and there. This computer is niiiiiice.

I just ordered and received a brand new rMBP 13'' 2015.

For 300 more I could've had the 2016 version. In the end my preference for the better battery life, the old keyboard, the I/O seemed more important than having a minor speedbump, a (way) better screen and a couple of grams less on the shoulder.

definitely a hard decision, super happy now!

I bought a 2015 15" base model that'll be arriving later this week. I'm excited for it!

How long does it take to get a tracking number? Ordered two days ago and paid for 2-3 day shipping still sitting in processing. Estimated arrival said: 3/24-28th

Ordered the baseline ntbMBP with 16GB RAM. Arriving later in the week.

Kaby Lake is not on the table because the speed gain is rarely non-trivial for my work on a Mac. It should be marginally faster than what I have now, but with more RAM and the ability to drive a 4K display.

Can't justify the more expensive machines either (plus the fact that I decided to skip iMac/15" altogether and finally built a proper PC tower, yep), but this looks a fine spot of portability, power and sleekness. I do admit that the Space Grey unibody has a pull factor.

Hate not to have Touch ID, but it can't be used in clamshell anyway.

After a lot of agonizing back and forth over waiting for the new MacBook, I decided to go with the 13" ntbMBP with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD in Space Gray after finding a very slightly used one for a great price on eBay. I'm not sure I would choose those specs if this were my only Mac (I do a lot of graphic design work on a 5K retina iMac), but for its use case - Word, Excel, wholesale order/tracking software, some Photoshop, Dropbox file storage) it is absolutely, spectacularly perfect.

Don't listen to the naysayers. Unless you are a hardcore video or audio editor (and maybe even then), you are going to love the new MacBook Pro as a highly portable, every day work tool.

Update us how it goes after a few days, did you get the 2.2 or 2.5 processor?

It's an 3.1 GHz Intel Core i7 processor.

And definitely! Right now, I'm trying to get used to using Sierra. I'm so comfortable with Snow Leopard that it feels awkward now

Just ordered the refurb 15.4-inch MacBook Pro 2.9GHz (512/460) after months of lurking, reading good and bad reviews, and looking at countless blogs. I was thinking of maybe waiting for the 2nd iteration of the new design, but then I followed the most common advice given here: 'get it if you need it now'.

I'm coming from a trusty 17" early-2011 MBP. Hope the new machine will be awesome for iOS/Android Dev, emulators, Photoshop/Lightroom, basic 4K video editing, and light gaming.

Anything I should know about the new machine? :) This will be my first retina display laptop; I'm thinking that will be a great change!

I picked up the base model 13 inch with Touch Bar. I think it's going to work quite well for my purposes and it's a beautiful laptop. I'm not really a huge fan of laptops in general, but I think it will be very complimentary to my desktop and very much appreciated for the times I'm on the road.

I asked for the Space Gray at Best Buy, but I ended up with the Silver. I'm actually quite happy with the mistake because I think I like Silver better now that I see it (they only had gray on display).
