Just received my 2017 15" 2TB/2.9GHz/ Space grey machine yesterday upgrading from my mid 2010 15" non-retina MBP

Restored via time machine in no time and I love this new machine

So much quicker than my previous (obviously) and having been following the news on the new machine since their release in October, I'm pleasantly surprised at the keyboard - no issues here. Very easy to adapt to and I quick like the reduced travel. I also think the noise is less than my old machine. I can't say whether this is very different to the 2016 machine or not.

The retina screen is fantastic compared to the non-retina and everything is just great. Well worth waiting for.

Hope the rest of you waiting enjoy this machine - its awesome!

What do you think of the Touch Bar? And how much better is the retina compared to none retina? I have a 2011 that I've been thinking about upgrading from for a while.

True but still, you'd think he would spam in the iPhone section of the forum, not in the MBP section. Seems so random ;)

ofcourse. but i am sure he is gonna soon start spamming the whole forum until he is banned/blocked lol

So far the touch bar is nice but not too useful yet. I have mainly used for adjusting brightness, volumes etc.

The retina screen is awesome and such a leap compared to my old 2010 - don't know how I coped for so long.

You should definitely upgrade - my old 2010 was as bought i.e. original spinning HDD and 4GB RAM and was really beginning to show its age. This should hopefully serve me well for another 7yrs!! My only wish for future proofing would have been 32GB RAM.

Hello everyone,

I purchased a MBP this weekend that will be here Tuesday.

I decided on the 13" cheapest space grey model. I am doing this because I no longer want to deal with workarounds to have access to macOS..

I am regretting not getting the 15". However time will tell.

I just ordered a new 2.9 GHz 15" space grey MacBook Pro with 1TB SSD. I also ordered an Elgato TB3 dock. I'm looking forward to getting it set up and getting used to my new machine. I'm coming from a 2011 15" MacBook Pro that I had added an SSD to. I'm hoping that I will be able to feel a good improvement in the speed.

Picked up a 2.9/16/512 MBP 15" yesterday from local store. I was apprehensive because of the price of course and wondered if it was going to go back before I even bought it. Well, it won't be going back. For me, almost all of the gripes about the new system that I worried about have no negative impact on my usage. The giant trackpad works great and the keyboard is a non issue for me. Runs fast, runs cool. Touch bar is okay. On my older MBP, I could tap brightness controls for instant results, now I need to tap the brightness icon and then slide the slider. Seems like an extra step for some things. I always had to look at the F keys to use them so this is not much different. It has potential.

Yeah, the price...ouch. But over 5 years or so of use, that pain will have faded. This is one nice machine. I really also like the 2015 Dell XPS 13 I have from work and wondered if the 15" would be for me. i7, 32GB ram and a 1TB SSD for $1999 from Costco sure beats the pricing of the Apple offerings by a mile. But my wife reminded me of my past failed experiments trying to leave the Apple world and sudden flashbacks quickly put me back on the Apple store website.

So if your'e on the fence, or worried about what you have read, I urge you to grab one and give it a go. You might be very pleased after all in spite of the negative commentary so often found on these forums. Nice job Apple. Now drop the price a bit, okay?

Purchased a 13" MacBook Pro Early 2015 8GB w/ 128GB SSD brand new from a local reseller. I will be using it for study, emails and watching youtube / Netflix. I didn't go for the newer MacBook Pro 13" as they are known to have issues with the butterfly keyboard and I don't want to have a million dongles.

I am feeling a bit worried that my model will be unusable / slow in the next 3-4 years just because it's 2 years old already. I know that this is definitely not the case but I am just looking for some reassurance.

Because I live in New Zealand I have about 3-4 years of Consumer Law coverage on the machine which entitles me to either a repair, replacement or refund should I have issues with it during that time-frame.

Tomorrow I've had the machine for two weeks. I am really enjoying using it so far (along with my iPhone 7 Plus) and I am having no issues with performance. I've already bought a "Nifty MiniDrive" for it so I can insert my 64GB microSD card in it for extra storage (I didn't buy a higher specced storage model as I mostly use iCloud or my main windows machine.)

Please let me know your thoughts.

Same here, got mine this weekend. Had to replace my mid 2009 MBP, it just stopped working after almost 8 years. And you know, the speed of the old machine was still pretty good (replaced hdd with ssd and added RAM). So, no worries, you'll be ok for at least 5-6 years. And i actually like the 2015 model for all it's obvious reasons. Pretty awesome machine. Enjoy!

Ordered 13" ntb base model in space grey, will arrive tomorrow. Sold the beats on eBay for $250, so with education pricing excluding tax the price was only $1000. Couldn't say no to that!
Coming from a 2011 13 MacBook Air.... So yes, pretty excited.
I tried the MacBook 2017 and liked it well enough, but I hear the keyboard on the pro has a slight jiggly factor, or lateral wobble to the keys. I love hoping for that. Anyone know if it's the case??

They had a sale on the base MacBook Pro 15 Late 2016 so I bought that yesterday. Coming from the Mid 2015 with MX370, maybe not the smartest buy, but the price was right. Don't like the keyboard though, click ti klack...

I'm impressed that you were able to sell the beats on eBay for $250 - what color did you go with to get that maximum resell value?

I think I got lucky. I chose Ultra Violet, assuming probably a girl would really like them. Then I copied the gold beats information, which had 83 5 star reviews. Then I changed the picture to Ultra Violet. All the other Ultra Violet listing had no star reviews yet. Wrote a description "Yes! These are the ultra rare Violet beats you are looking for, limited production run in the United States only." Or some other such statement. Even though the UPC code went with Gold, I figure.. who would ever notice that? I put them up before I even received them, because I knew the market would be flooded quickly. But I would from experience suggest ultra violet, due to its novelty, for maximum resale.

By the way, I am typing on my new computer, and I have an answer to my question above. The keyboard is, in fact, better than the new 2017 MacBook computer. The keys have jiggliness! It is slight, but it makes a huge difference feeling the key move around a little, gives the impression of being on a normal size keyboard. This was all I was hoping for, as I found the MacBook keyboard to be slightly flat and clackity. This keyboard seems to sound better, and feel a lot closer to a traditional keyboard overall. Yay!

The new computer is cool. Space Grey, Non Touch Bar. Good value, expecting a 5 year run out of it, barring any weirdness. Love the color gamut on the screen, I notice the MacBook did not have it quite so wide. Another "trick of the trade" if you will, after 14 days, say you wish to return your computer. You are then giving another 14+ days to decide if anything is wrong with it. If you do not care to return your computer at the end of that period, simply do nothing. This effectively turns the 14 day window into slightly over a month. I have tried this many times successfully. This time, I will plan on keeping the computer, as I just shipped off the Beats, and I'm sure Apple would want them back o_O

One final note. eBay takes a sizable chunk! In my case, $41.10, plus the cost of shipping (always offer FREE shipping), so about $50. Whew.

Anyone have any idea when we should start seeing the 2017 MacBook Pro TB's in the refurbish sections. Want to buy a 13" but not trying to pay full price.

Great tips. I went with the product red headphones when I ordered mine because they have the highest sold prices on eBay but haven't had any luck with a buy it now price of $224. In the end I might trade the color and keep them. Can't decide if I think the headphones are worth even $150 (conservative sale and fees price) since I love AirPods so much.

My spec'd out 15" mbp arrives Monday and I'm so eager to use it. First Mac ever so I've been reading converting from windows and Mac guides for days and watching every YouTube video on MacBooks I can find.

I've debated about this long and hard but I finally decided to pull the trigger on a 2015 15" Retina from the refurb store. I've looked at the 2016 and 2017 instore a lot, and in the end the cost savings plus the performance I think is good enough for me in the end. Some of the newer features on the new MBP would be nice, but some of them Im not such a big fan of. I'm not that happy to be buying old tech, but there's a feeling in my bones that this current MBP is so pricey for what it is, and I really want to see how the Touch Bar shapes up in the next year or two, as well as the Trackpad and Keyboard. Im not ready for USB-C yet either. Anyway, I save some money for now and look forward to what Apple cook up in 2018 and 2019.

So last night I bought a refurb 2015 15" rMBP for software development after my current rMBP 13" 2014 kicked the bucket 2 days ago. Cost me $2350, currently Preparing to Ship...says it'll arrive Tuesday.

Hopefully I made the right decision.

I was very disappointed by the 2016 MacBook Pro announcements, but the age of my 2008 Unibody MacBook was just showing too much even with RAM and SSD upgrades, so I finally caved and bought a 2017 nTB MacBook Pro. I've had it for about a month, and the biggest surprise is that after an initial adjustment period, I actually prefer the feel of second gen butterfly keyboard over my old MacBook's. I do wish they would find a way to make it quieter, though.

Performance is good and the screen is gorgeous, but I still think these machines make a lot of stupid compromises. It doesn't need to be this thin. More ports and better battery life are worth a few extra millimeters (I get about 5 hours if I'm actually working). Wish I could get the more powerful models without the gimmicky touchbar. If nTB has to have fewer ports, it should at least have one on each side. I don't really mind dongles, but at a minimum, HDMI and USB-A adapters should be included at these prices. And I really miss MagSafe.

My built to order 15" MBP has arrived in Louisville. Hoping to get it by Wednesday this coming week. My Elgato TB3 dock arrived today along with my DVI to display port cable.
