I ordered a refurbished 2017 13" MacBook Pro in Space Gray with 3.1GHz i5, 8GB, and 256GB. I got it direct from Apple's refurb site b/c I had heard that was the safest way to purchase a refurbished unit. This will be my first Macbook, so I was pretty psyched to play around with it.
Well, it came yesterday and I unboxed it and fired it up. Went through all the set up and finally the desktop loaded for the first time. I got a message to plug into AC power to finish file vault setup. I bent down to plug it into the wall outlet, and when I stood up, the screen was black. I thought, well I guess it just has a quick sleep setting by default. But...I couldn't wake it. Now power. Tried all charging ports. Tried SMC reset. No, my new MBP was dead as a door nail.
I've never experienced a catastrophic failure so quickly in new hardware. But, I get that Apple produces thousands of these things, and a few are bound to just be lemons. At first, it had me re-thinking getting another refurb as a replacement, but what are the odds that I get 2 lemons in a row? I think it's low enough that I risk it.
This isn't meant to be a dig or derogatory to Apple or the new MBP. I just wanted to share my experience. This kind of thing can happen with any computer. And at the end of the day, I'm kind of happy it happened right away rather than just after the return period or just after the warranty expiration.
Now I'm even more impatient than ever to get the replacement on Friday!!
How are you finding the Touch Bar?
I bagged a 13" Touch Bar 3 weeks ago.
Love it.
Everything about the touch bar, touch ID and keyboard a win-win IMO.

And don't forget MagSafe! It can be a life saver. It has been a LOOOOONG time since I last posted, BUT...
I'm excited to say today I got my brand new (to me) refurb'd 15" 2015 rMBP!! I went with the 2015 model as opposed to the new ones because I want my USB ports, the regular keyboard and the ability to at least upgrade my SSD.
I'm coming from a 2011 - so this is a very big upgrade for me. I'll sure miss my anti-glare screen, but I'm liking this Retina display A LOT!

Good to hear this. I have been wanting a Mac laptop for some time and finally a 2015 refurb came up. As you noted, I wanted the extra ports. I had no interest in the touch bar and was willing to buy older hardware that had the features I needed. Was not willing to pay more $$'s for a laptop, that to me was a backstep and almost $800 difference in price.
Long time Apple fan,
2015 Maxed 15" MBP couldn't handle my 4k TV (which I'm using as monitor) at 4K 60hz (30hz worked but was a pain), Just sold it and ordered the 2016 15" TB MBP with 16gb, 2tb, 460. Let's hope it doesn't have problems like a lot of people on here have been having.
I plan on ordering a usb-c to hdmi 2.0 cable to connect to my 'monitor'.
Excited!
Have a new late 2016 Space Gray 15” TB on the way. Can’t beat it for $1899.
Don’t really need all the power, but the screen real estate is worth the trade off of the slightly higher price tag/weight. Pretty stoked.
