I wouldn't worry about there being a problem with your replacement. Of course anything can happen, but getting two lemons in a row is unlikely. When I bought my (now sold) 2012 15" retina MBP brand new it came with a bad battery out of the box. Wouldn't charge at all and had a "service battery" notice. My replacement had bad image retention. The second replacement was perfect and lasted through four years of heavy use, and I'm sure it's still moving along well with its new owner. I don't think you will be unlucky and get two bad machines in a row, but I know how it feels and unfortunately it does happen every now and then.

It's really quite funky, when I've seen it in Store I've thought "What's the point of that" etc but I'm really liking it so far. Think I need to learn how it works with some apps but really like Touch ID on it!
A couple of days ago I replaced my 2013 Macbook Air with a used 2016 13" MBP with Touch Bar (3.3GHz i7/16GB/1TB.) My old i7 MBA was still perfectly capable and according to Geekbench only around 20% slower than my new MBP, but I have been running out of storage space and upgrading the SSD would have been expensive. I have also wanted a retina display since they launched, but didn't want to adopt too early until I was convinced the GPUs could handle them (I read lots of early reports of performance issues.)
I opted for a used 2016 over a new 2017 as I got the max spec for only a little over the same money as the entry level 2017 model, so got double the RAM and a 1TB SSD for sacrificing just a little processing power. It also came with Apple Care til 2020, so a no brainer really. With 14 battery cycles it's not far off new.
So far I am very impressed with it. I've seen lots of people saying they don't like the keyboard, but personally I really like how firm it feels, and the noise doesn't bother me as I always have headphones on. I was sceptical about the Touch Bar, but the first really useful thing I've found is a small keyboard in Logic which is really cool.
I'm still trying to figure out how to hook up all my peripherals (monitor, 2 x external HD) via one cable, I bought a relatively cheap adapter from Amazon but it's not powerful enough to run everything at once, it can only run either the HD's or the monitor. So I'll probably be looking at either a TB3 hub, or perhaps even a new monitor with built-in hub like the LG Ultrafine 5K.

This past week, I got a 2017 15" MBP with touch bar and 512GB. Loving it so far! I'm still discovering all of the capabilities of the touch bar, and have already incorporated into my work flow on a few apps. So far so good!
I found a new 2016 13" NTB i7 2.4, 8GB, 1TB for $1699. Thought this was the best deal for something with 1TB SSD. My current machine has 700GB on it's drive, which I'm reducing by deleting photos from my 400+GB Aperture library and useless videos.

I cant decide between teh 15 or 13 inch TMBP.. I had the 15 nd returned it due to some issues and part of me isleaning towards the smaller, more comfortable 13 inch form factor... I traveled across europe with the 15 inch and while I LOVED the real estate. I did complain about weight and size a bit.

just got my 2017 13" nTB MacBook Pro. got the 8gb 256gb ssd model. for a split second there was a 128gb with 16gb of ram for sale but I wanted more storage than ram. my rain desktop rig (I built) has 32gb's of ram and I do most of my heavy work on that.
so far Im loving it. last MacBook I owned was 2011 Macbook air. love the screen. high res everything looks crisp!! also the battery life so far Is awesome. I have no tested it much but from what I've been doing with it so far its great. only thing I hate is the ****** keyboard. I have no idea what the engineers at apple were smoking to think that this minimum key travel keyboard was a good idea just so they can shave a 0.X mm of the thickness of the system. I a huge mechanical keyboard nut. have a ducky with cherry blues on my main rig. now granted, no laptop keyboard will ever come close to a mech keyboard but holy **** this keyboard is aids. imo there was nothing wrong with the past keyboards apple used on their MacBooks. I would rather use the keyboard off the 2011 mba that I had than this.
also im a little worried about my purchase, for the fact that intel 8th gen quad core chips have been out since august. the dell xps 13 was the first to get them and now the razer blade 13 and the Microsoft surface have been updated to them. I have a bad taste in my mouth right now. I have a feeling that apple will refresh the 13" in November with these coffee lake quad core chips. personally for what I plan to do with my Mac probably won't benefit from the quad core. I do most all of my heavy work on my desktop rig (6 core 12 thread intel 5820K OC to 4.5ghz, 32gb ram, Nvidia 1080 TI) so my Lightroom editing and some basic video editing is all done on that but would be nice to have a quad core for basic video editing and photo editing on the go but the main reason is this is the type of thing that will drop the value of the current MacBook 13" by a lot. right now as it stands its either spend 1099 min on a refurb min spec MacBook Pro 13" or spend close to 1500 or more for a 15" to get the quad core chips. if a 13" with quad core comes out and is priced at 1200. used value of 13" with the dual core chips will drop big time. I plan on keeping this as long as possible but I have gas (gear acquisition syndrome) so if I do end up selling this to buy something else (camera gear, drone, whatever catches my eye) I don't want to take a huge hit on it.

Hi all - first time poster, long-time lurker. 
Just ordered a refurb'd 2017 13" 2.3 MBP ntb 16GB/256 SSD after waiting patiently for them to show back up in the Store to 'upgrade' my 2014 MBAir. Truthfully, I'm not sure about losing the Magsafe on a laptop, and I have my worries/doubts about the keyboard, but we'll see how it goes during the first 14 days, right?
Anyway I wanted to give a shout-out and offer thanks to the Macrumors community for the many insightful comments, reviews, and discussions that I've read over the past several months.
UPDATE: (only a few days later): I hate the keyboard feel and think the trackpad is too effing big. But the keyboard is the killer for me and I don't see a huge reason to force myself into adjusting to it, so it's going back this afternoon.

It has been a LOOOOONG time since I last posted, BUT...
I'm excited to say today I got my brand new (to me) refurb'd 15" 2015 rMBP!! I went with the 2015 model as opposed to the new ones because I want my USB ports, the regular keyboard and the ability to at least upgrade my SSD.
I'm coming from a 2011 - so this is a very big upgrade for me. I'll sure miss my anti-glare screen, but I'm liking this Retina display A LOT!
I'm excited to say today I got my brand new (to me) refurb'd 15" 2015 rMBP!! I went with the 2015 model as opposed to the new ones because I want my USB ports, the regular keyboard and the ability to at least upgrade my SSD.
I'm coming from a 2011 - so this is a very big upgrade for me. I'll sure miss my anti-glare screen, but I'm liking this Retina display A LOT!

2015 Maxed 15" MBP couldn't handle my 4k TV (which I'm using as monitor) at 4K 60hz (30hz worked but was a pain), Just sold it and ordered the 2016 15" TB MBP with 16gb, 2tb, 460. Let's hope it doesn't have problems like a lot of people on here have been having.
I plan on ordering a usb-c to hdmi 2.0 cable to connect to my 'monitor'.

Good to hear this. I have been wanting a Mac laptop for some time and finally a 2015 refurb came up. As you noted, I wanted the extra ports. I had no interest in the touch bar and was willing to buy older hardware that had the features I needed. Was not willing to pay more $$'s for a laptop, that to me was a backstep and almost $800 difference in price.
I also feel that the absence of USB A port is disturbing...
But unfortunately, I wanted something that looks newer, so no choice...

Better buy moshi usb c to hdmi 2.0 dongle...
Have a new late 2016 Space Gray 15” TB on the way. Can’t beat it for $1899.
Don’t really need all the power, but the screen real estate is worth the trade off of the slightly higher price tag/weight. Pretty stoked.

OK...Today was the day. I picked up my refurb 2015 MBP and am very happy. As i said earlier, I really wanted the ports so I wouldn't dongle myself to death. Not my first Mac, but my first laptop. Looked brand new out of the box. Screen is perfect and everything works.
Since I received my invoice ahead of picking it up, I checked the serial # on one of the sites that will give details about the unit. I had ordered the 2.2 as I wasn't going to do any really heavy lifting, but the site said it was a 2.8. When I picked it up, the label on the unit said 2.2.
Wasn't going to sweat it as I got what I ordered. However, when I fired it uo to start setting it up, I clicked on 'About this Mac'. Lo & behold....2.8. Now I know that Apple will do this sometimes and I'm thankful for the boost, it just seemed odd that they would have labeled it as a 2.2.
As a side note, I usually don't care for trackpads on a laptop, but this one is really nice.

We need to get a new laptop and have been looking at the refurb store. Of course, we've dithered for too long and missed out on the 13" MBPs with 16GB RAM.
Being very portable isn't a big deciding factor, so am toying with the idea of going up to a 15", particularly as you can get a 2016 15" with 16GB RAM for £200-£300 more than a loaded 2017 13".
Its not going to be a desktop replacement, but does need the memory for running VMs and 512GB HDD would be good too.

Yesterday I ordered the 2017 15", 512GB, 16GB Ram and 2.9 processor.
I'm upgrading from an early 2011 MacBook Pro, so I think the change will be quite noticeable (although I have been using a 2012 MacBook Air for a few months now as the MacBook Pro failed, and just the SSD speed changed was awesome enough, can't wait for the MBP).

Just ordered the base 15" MacBook Pro with 1TB SSD, to replace my 12" MacBook. Change of job has required a change of focus from portability to screen size. No requirement for so much power, but I guess it'll be future proof.
