I'm looking to replace my MacBook Air 2013 - Both of the below are pretty much bang on what I'm after, within budget. I get Apple Corporate discount through my work.

I would like a Touch Bar MacBook Pro, but is it worth going for the year older specs to get it?

I'm torn, any advice?

MacBook Pro 13" 2017 i7 - nTB - £1974

2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 4.0GHz
16GB 2133MHz LPDDR3 memory
512GB SSD storage
Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640

MacBook Pro 13" 2016 TB - £1989 (Apple Refub)
3.3GHz dual-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
16GB of 2133MHz LPDDR3 onboard memory
512GB PCIe-based onboard SSD1
Intel Iris Graphics 550

Suddenly got another offer. 2016 touch bar macbook pro at the same price with the refurb 2017 nonTouchbar macbook pro. Which one is better?

Personally, I would rather buy the 2016 touchbar model...

And yeah, the touchbar is very handy on the go...

I would personally choose the touchbar model.

This is because the touchbar model having a faster processor and a better graphics card.
(No major changes from skylake and kabylake graphics card)

And yeah, the touchbar is very handy on the go...

Should be here tomorrow

Went for a 2017 13" Touch Bar with 8GB/256GB. Used education promo which included Beats headphones. Glad I got the TB model - unlocking with Touch ID is great and I've found the context sensitive functions useful. The extra large trackpad is great and the keyboard is fine for me.

This is my 4th MacBook. Had the Blackbook, MacBook 13" with DVD (which was stolen by a airport/united/or TSA worker), first Retina 15" (always felt it was too big), and a 2015 13" Retina. All purchased with AppleCare.

This is by far the best one, small, light, and wonderful screen. Like many I read reviews, compared custom configurations, shopped refurbished, priced the used market, thought about waiting, and checked them out at the Apple Store. While 16GB would have been nice, it's has not been a problem. My primary use model is Xcode. I have an iPhone and iPad Pro for email, iBooks, Kindle, web, and entertainment.

I purchased three USB-C to USB3 adapters and a 13" STM Swift bag (MacBook and iPad Pro 10" fit in nicely), and will likely order a Pluggable TB3 dock for desktop use.

The Beats Solo3 headphones sound great for the range of music I like, and they fit as well as any other "on-ear" headphones I've used. Pairing and switching between devices is easy.

Couple weeks later and still loving this thing. Can't imagine going back to the old style MBP. Can I just mention as well the speakers... Miles better. Way louder and way better at re-producing low-end.

Glad I went with a TB version. As someone else mentioned above, Touch ID is great for unlocking the laptop and buying online. I'm surprised how many sites support ApplePay.

After spending nearly 6 years with my MacBook Air (which still works beautifully despite only lasting about 15 minutes on battery), I decided to finally bite the bullet and order a MacBook Pro. I was ready to order a 2015 or 2016 model but was shocked to see that 2017 models were in stock! I splurged a little, but didn't buy the i7 for the first time and instead went with the i5 so I could get the TouchBar model with 512 GB SSD & 16GB RAM. I think I made the right choice. Best of all, it will be delivered tomorrow. I'm so psyched!

Refurbished 13.3-inch MacBook Pro 3.1GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 with Retina display - Space Gray
[16 GB RAM / 512 GB SSD with TouchBar].

Ive read several reports that battery life on the 2016 tbMBP is horrible. 2017 models seem to fix that problem.

I've noticed the battery life hasn't been great. I just thought what was the norm coming from the Air. I'm not all that bothered about battery life, 9 times out of 10 I have the charger with me when I'm out and about.

After shopping for a few days and test driving a few I splurged on a std config
15-inch MacBook Pro - Space Gray TB
2.9GHz i7 processor
16GB memory
512GB SSD storage
Radeon Pro 560 with 4GB memory

After the test drives, I was convinced we needed a 15 inch screen. So the choice (512GB storage) was the non TB model for about $2200 list or the TB model for 2600-2800 list depending on processor and graphics. I decided to splurge. Its a birthday gift for the wife who has been using a several year old reliable but slow Macbook with a balky trackpad. It was frustrating for me to use last week, although she is used to it. I didn't see much more than a $200 discount anywhere reliable. Anyway, birthday is next week... couldn't wait much longer :) We'll see how it goes.

Same config as the poster above. I had a 2015 MacBook but really couldn't get used to it and sold it months later. Have had this less than a day and am really enjoying it.

was about to order the baseline 13" pro refurb. the hour i go on to order it it sold out..... saw the 256. didnt want to spend more than 1100 then after 3 days of thinking about it i decided to buy it. go to buy it. sold out :(

i know the refurb items are random but you guys think they will have another one of these two models for sale soon or do they take a while to get back in stock once they sell out?

I don't know when the refubs stock back up but the same thing happened to me while scooping a Mac mini. they were out of the one I wanted and I happened to checked again a few days later and it was there. I got lucky and snagged one before they ran out again. id check daily or ever other day to see.

I have a recommendation for this... Try to look at https://www.refurbstore.com/

You can subscribe and be notified when the refurbished macbook is available.

Yeah it does fix it to a certain extent, marginally...

But comparing the battery life of 2016 mbp and 2017 mbp (my friend's), seems to be marginal at best...

What is the average battery life on the 15" machines now assuming they're not under a heavy load?

Ordered a 13 inch MacBook Pro from Currys last night, just setting it up now. Looks stunning in space grey!

I ordered a refurbished 2017 13" MacBook Pro in Space Gray with 3.1GHz i5, 8GB, and 256GB. I got it direct from Apple's refurb site b/c I had heard that was the safest way to purchase a refurbished unit. This will be my first Macbook, so I was pretty psyched to play around with it.

Well, it came yesterday and I unboxed it and fired it up. Went through all the set up and finally the desktop loaded for the first time. I got a message to plug into AC power to finish file vault setup. I bent down to plug it into the wall outlet, and when I stood up, the screen was black. I thought, well I guess it just has a quick sleep setting by default. But...I couldn't wake it. Now power. Tried all charging ports. Tried SMC reset. No, my new MBP was dead as a door nail.

I've never experienced a catastrophic failure so quickly in new hardware. But, I get that Apple produces thousands of these things, and a few are bound to just be lemons. At first, it had me re-thinking getting another refurb as a replacement, but what are the odds that I get 2 lemons in a row? I think it's low enough that I risk it.

This isn't meant to be a dig or derogatory to Apple or the new MBP. I just wanted to share my experience. This kind of thing can happen with any computer. And at the end of the day, I'm kind of happy it happened right away rather than just after the return period or just after the warranty expiration.

Now I'm even more impatient than ever to get the replacement on Friday!!
