Just received my 2016 MBP 16/250, space gray. This is my first mac book pro (apple) computer. Have been a Windows guy since the late 80's. Finding it pretty easy and fast to make the transition, and loving the computer.
I too was once a windows guy, for years. Thankfully I was enlightened years ago and switched to Mac. I work in a small office now and am currently converting most of the staff to Macs, except for the few who are stubborn...

Macs just work, no BSOD, no auto updates non-stop that take forever, no AV to slow down the OS, you will love the MBP

same.. I got a mac12 last week, after using windows for 15 years. I will NEVER go back, everything is just so perfect. Phone, computer, all my banking, safari and utilizations of the apps are just flawless. AirPods too make a super nice addition!

After nearly 6 years I finally pulled the plug, and upgraded my 2012 cMBP. Going from the 15” to the 13” with TB, 16 GB, and 256 SSD Splurged with the TB since I graduated and got a good job out of school :D. Super excited!

How do you like i? How's going from the 15" to a retina 13"?

I actually ordered it so it’ll be a week or so. My brother has the same laptop without the touch bar, so I’ve gotten a chance to look at it and I like it quite a bit. The difference in terms of screen size shouldn’t be an issue for me personally me.

So my macbook just arrived! And i'm loving the keyboard! I have to type more but it is certainly not something that bothers me as i type a lot on flat surfaces like my phone.

I am happy to report that my MBP didn't come with any scratch on the speakers or below it. I opened in Latin America so i'm thankful all was perfect at once.

First experience with handoff was totally a surprise. Dad had visits downstairs and i didn't want to go in PJ's (I'm female) to search for my wireless router and see the 10 words passwords to put wifi on the MBP while i was setting it up. To my surprise the MBP picked the password from my iPhone 7 and voila! I had the password and no need to go down!

I'm coming from 11" to 15" , don't know what to think. Have to use it more.

So here is more or less my setup. A Samsung T5, CharJen Pro MacStick, Sennheiser Amperiors (Best portable Non Amped headphones), a red PS4 controller (Just in case I don't game nor have a single game), Magic Mouse...The MM I will update with MX Master, Space Grey Magic Mouse or Anywhere 2S when they get updated. Some spare microSD card I got from Samsung and a couple of cables.

I want of course to update the mouse when i travel again to the US, and I do have a high capacity USB 3.0 pen drive but didn't make the photo as all is about Thunderbolt and USB-C with the new Mac! The $40 TB3 Apple cable would be nice.. but currently I don't have any need for it.

Will post a more artistry photo of my Mac when I have a little bit of time.

Just ordered on Sunday my first MacBook Pro ever and first Mac since 2012 after being forced to use a PC for a while! (Maxed out surface pro 4. One of the least stable and most annoying computers I have ever used). Was an engineering major and have recently switched into Accounting and Information Systems, so I can now use a Mac! (Though I’ll be running parallels for some things like excel and Microsoft Access).

Ordered 2017 MBP 13 TB w/ 3.1ghz i5, 16GB RAM, and the 512 SSD.

Order just changed to preparing for shipment today, so I’m pretty excited! Anyone know how long it usually takes from this stage to my door? Apple estimate still says Jan. 31 - feb. 2, which seems kinda long.

Ordered mine on the 15th and it’s arriving tomorrow. Takes a bit when shipped directly from China.

I've had my 2016 13" TB 16/512 for a few weeks now. Really enjoying it.

I originally ordered a silver, then canceled it and ordered a space gray a few hours later when they came in stock. Interestingly, the 2016 13" TB 16gb/512 hasn't really been in stock at all since I got mine. So I'm glad I grabbed it when I did.

What were the biggest differences you found? Considering the same.

Did you get the base TB model?
No touch bar, couldn't justify the price and while it's cool it seemed meh especially considering you lose 30-60 minutes of battery life if you have the Touch Bar. The main differences I've noticed aside from the obvious performance gain is definitely the screen first of all, it almost looks as good as the screen on my iPhone X. Second of all, the bezels are sooo much smaller! Speakers are great for a laptop, sounds about as good as a google home mini. I love the new (huge) trackpad and was incredibly surprised to find out it has force touch like on the iPhones! If you press down on the trackpad harder than normal when clicking something it will give you a preview of what you clicked on, etc. I love the new keyboard, has that nice click to it like mechanical keyboards do. All in all I am very happy and satisfied with it.

I think the battery life difference is more a product of the higher wattage CPU than the Touch Bar.

I just got myself a new MacBook Pro, the 15-inch one with 2.8 GHz CPU and 512 GB SSD. I've had a 13-inch model from 2015, which is actually not old at all. But there were a couple factors that made me decide to upgrade already: screen size, CPU, GPU, RAM and storage.

So let me break it down. My previous MacBook Pro was a 13-inch one with dual-core CPU, iGPU, 8 GB RAM and 256 GB SSD. I absolutely love(d) this machine, and used it every day without a problem. And to be honest, I could easily live with it now. But the thing is, I've noticed that especially when it comes to storage, I constantly had to delete stuff to make sure I have enough left. And because of the integrated GPU the 8 GB RAM was pretty quickly filled. And the CPU was decent enough, but as soon as you start using more advanced software, not so much. As for the display size, things just felt 'cramped'. Especially Visual Studio for programming.

I started looking for a new MacBook Pro. I knew it was gonna cost me quite a bit, even when choosing a 13-inch MBP. But I thought "If I'm gonna do it, I better get the best in one shot". And while the one I finally chose isn't the top of the line, it certainly is much of an improvement over my previous one and of course the 13-inch model from 2017.

The larger screen is really a game-changer. I thought the extra two inches wouldn't really make that much of a difference, but it actually does. The more powerful processor helps as well, so does the dGPU (Radeon Pro 555). Now, I know Mac's are not suitable for gaming, but I do play World of Tanks from time to time. On my previous one I could only do so at minimum settings, but the new MBP allows me to play at medium/high settings. Pretty nice to see that. The extra RAM is really helpful too. But I think the doubled SSD-storage is even more of an addition. I don't have to worry about running out of storage anymore. That's really a huge relief.

How 'bout the rest? Like the trackpad, keyboard and Touch Bar + Touch ID? Well, the larger trackpad area is certainly something, but quite nice too. There are moments where the palm recognition stuff doesn't work 100% well, but overall it works. Mostly had to get used to the new keyboard, as it felt a bit weird typing on it. Still does a bit, but I'll get used to that. As for Touch Bar, I'm actually impressed by how useful it can be. I do use it. Not all the time, but it definitely has a good use-case in some scenarios. And Touch ID is great as well! I like the design too by the way, especially the space gray color. It looks so 'pro' in a way.

I really love my new 15-inch MacBook Pro! I know it sounds fanboyish and all, but apart from the incredibly high price tag of the notebook this is really a superb Apple product. Glad I upgraded so soon. :)

Received my 13" 3.1/16GB/512GB exactly a week ago today...and I am happy to report that things are going swimmingly so far!! Since I received it, it has already put in its fair share of work through a whole week of school. It gets used basically all day every day during the week...granted not for particularly taxing things, but its used nonetheless...I am actually already worrying about battery cycles because I usually use about 1 a day...Charge at night and use it all day on battery...rinse and repeat.

Addressing the keyboard...IMO its one of the best keyboards I've ever used...I wasn't a fan at first, but I grew to like it in just a couple of days, and now I don't think I would ever want to go back to a scissor mechanism keyboard...My WPM and error % has improved quite a bit. This means a lot for me as I take notes in class on my computer, so I am usually typing all day long and desperately trying to keep up with the lecturer. It does sit in the back of my mind that it may not last...but I am optimistic...and I do have applecare+ to give me peace of mind.

The only thing taxing I have thrown at it is a few large data sheets in excel running in Parallels (and the same large sheets running at the same time in MacOS because I was comparing office for Mac and Windows)...It handled those just fine. (wouldn't really expect anything else). The machine never breaks a sweat...I have honestly not heard the fans even once...the case has gotten slightly warm, but never uncomfortable...and most of the time in normal browsing or note taking, it is cool to the touch...

Also speaking on the battery which a lot of the people here had me seriously worried about...it has been great!! Battery life is invaluable to me because of using it all day off power on my college campus...Often finding an outlet is next to impossible. I used to have to deal with terrible battery life on my Surface Pro 4 and I am oh so happy to report that I am getting exactly what Apple quotes for the TB MBP...10-11 hours. You could say that I simply am using it very lightly, but under the same exact use case, my Surface Pro 4 that I had before this (rated for 9 hours) would only last between 3 and 5 hours on a full charge. So to people worried about the battery on the Touch Bar model, I think as long as you are using it the way it was tested (lightly, simple tasks)...you will be just fine. Also I have noticed the new 500 nit brightness display can easily suck down your battery, so be conscious of that...I usually use mine at 50% brightness. Keyboard backlight on all the time.

To conclude, I am still in the honeymoon phase after a week, and completely happy with my purchase!! I missed the Apple ecosystem so much...

How do you like that MBP sleeve/case?

Received a 13” 3.1/8/256 TouchBar refurb last night.

It crashed and powered off during initial setup causing me to have to wipe and reinstall everything as it booted to “Setup User”. Apple and I were unable to assign a password to that account.

This morning Touch ID failed to unlock the machine and when I went to add a new fingerprint it immediately fails over and over. Reboot doesn’t help, nor does deleting the original fingerprint.

Sigh. I’m on hold with customer relations.

Yikes. That is the worst...getting a new (refurb counts for sure) computer and having issues right out of the box. I'm sorry to hear that. I hope they end up either working it out or replacing the whole machine. Luckily I've heard Apple is pretty good about this kind of stuff. Best of luck to you

I spoke with a few people from Apple today and while it was a very lengthy process one of the higher ups from the online store is going to send me a new (refurb) machine in the next couple of days and I will then send this one back.

I appreciate your comments @macdudesir !

The replacement machine arrived this morning. All seems well so far.

On a side note, there is a fairly decent bug in High Sierra where if you mount a .dmg (chrome for example) and then mount another (brackets), finder will freak out on the third image you mount. It continues to think you mounted chrome and opens a blank window. Relaunching finder then opens the .dmg as an empty folder and actually doesn’t mount the image. Weird one that.
