Just ordered a refurbished 13” MacBook Pro, 3.1GHz i5 with 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD for $1609. Was thinking about getting a 2018, but the price difference was just too much.

Odd, I was looking yesterday at the 512GB configuration and it had the same exact delivery date (in store and delivery). I thought it was I was looking days after the announcement and early buyers would have it (maybe that's still the case).
I checked, delivery date moved to 1st August (this is in France FIY, and as a BTO since I have to change the keyboard from French to Us...)

This is one case where I'd really advise you to return it and get the 2018 model.

While I realize $200 may seem like a lot of money depending on your financial situation, the difference in both speed and longevity will be night and day. Even in the $1799 base model the CPU in the 2018 model can literally be twice as fast as the fastest 2017 model. While you do get the 512GB SSD, storage is something you can always add more of externally later. Processing power however is set in stone.

I have a 2016 13" rMBP and as much as I'm not happy about the lower tier models not (yet?) being upgraded, I'm still probably going to upgrade as the difference in CPU is just revelatory.

A dual core machine for $1600 in 2018 is really just an incredibly bad deal. Normally I'd say "in 1-2 years the difference will be huge," but in this case I can honestly say the difference in performance TODAY will be huge.

I also thought of buying a refurb one like the one you have..with i5 or i7... is it worth it like new and no missing keyboards or they falling off after a few months of use. Can you get Apple Care as well?

So I just ordered one, 13" with 16Gb RAM and 512Gb SSD. Delivery July 26th - 30th (which is unusually long for Apple but I don't mind, and I know they often deliver earlier than promised).

Just ordered mid-level space gray 15”, 2.6GHz, 32GB memory and 512GB with an ETA of 7/26 - 7/30.

I had an online order since Thursday night, but went to the store and picked one up yesterday! Pretty pleased so far, keyboard feels much better to me.

I just pre-ordered a 13" with the i7 upgrade, 16GB memory, and a 512GB drive from B&H Photo. This will replace my late 2016 15" 2.6GHz 512GB touch bar that will go up for sale after Apple fixes the keyboard. I had a 13" MBA for 5 years and I prefer the smaller size of the MBP13, but previous versions didn't have the multi-core performance I wanted. This new one hits my sweet spot in terms of size and performance.

Unusually long? They have been so poor at providing release quantity product recently, even with a supply "expert" in charge, this is a miracle you can get these MBP's in a week or two.

No keyboard errors or sleep wake issues please.

I'd wager the keyboard will be fine, but I'll bet the other way on the sleep wake issues.

Every Mac I've owned ever since they went to OS X has had sleep wake issues. They go away, but then they come back again eventually. It's just a matter of time.

Then again, you probably don't have all the crazy peripherals I have plugged in:
  • An external keyboard with numberpad
  • Another external numberpad
  • A 15 button mouse
  • Card reader
  • DAC
  • External backup hard disk
  • 5K Monitor
  • 3 button foot pedal
And I'm not even counting anything connected via Bluetooth and sometimes I'll plug even more things in.

This is why I love TB3/USB-C.

Ordered 512gb, 16gb, 13 inch. UK in store delivery date of 30th July. Card has already been charged which means they must have started build it.

Ordered the same configuration last week. But had to cancle it today and order again.

Reason:
I chatted with the Apple Support, because i'm a student. But since it's a privatly owned school, it's not officially recognized by Apple.
But i thought, what the hell... doesn't hurt to ask. It's a higher education school too and expensive as hell.

And it paid off :) I was now able to order it again at the lower price and with free beats headphones.

I lost a day or 2 on my delivery date. But it is worth it ;)
It says 2 Aug - 6 Aug.

I paid with a virtual card so I am not sure they have fully charged my card, but I noticed I can't cancel my ordre anymore. is it the same for you ?

Same here. Mine is preparing for dispatch
Thanks, preparing for dispatch to ! (haven't noticed at first)
My bank confirmed me they asked for an authorisation. They are now waiting for the payment request to give Apple my €€€€€€ which I guess will happen as soon as it is dispatched.

There's a chance we'll get it in advance

Thats what I'm hoping. The original date for delivery to my home was Thursday 26th but as I wouldn't be in I asked for delivery to store for which the earliest was Monday 30th. Basically the store shipments go out in one big pallet where as the home shipments go out as and when they are ready. Hoping they have a store pallet planned for this week.

Well I took the plunge and ordered a 15" MBP with 512GB SSD. If you've noticed my prior posts, I had bought (and returned) a Razer. I really liked that, but I missed the apple ecosystem. My kids and even wife were pushing for the MBP over the Razer. Since I qualified for the edu discount, I'm saving some money and got a pair of Beats headphones. The cost of this model, is about a 100 dollars more then the Razer, so I'm not out more money. This also means the Razer is a very expensive laptop.

Did the same choice for the same reason ;)
Didn't know about the shipment system difference... I guess this is why it's the 30th instead of a time frame of 26th to 30th as a home delivery. I guess they have a LOT of big pallets going out this days..!

I love the yearly game of tracking apple shipments whether it be for a laptop, phone, watch or iPad o_O

Checked a few times today. No update.
