Mine is a BTO so I don't have much of a choice here.I’m sure the 13” is available in store now not the 24thalthough here in the U.K. The 15” isn’t available for in store pick up yet but the 13” is, weird if you ask me.

But yeah, base models are available widely in 13" in Europe and 15" should be soon

Yep, the 13" Pro's 256/512 are available to pick up right now in Highcross Leicester
I'm tempted to buy one on finance, but I know I shouldn't, trying to wait for the refreshed 12" MacBook instead.

Yea I’m really tempted myself, quad core on the 13” is brilliant. There must be a reason why they haven’t updated the 12” at the same time so I’m also tempted to just wait and see what specs that gets, also the rumoured 13” MacBook seems to be happening later this year so that will also be interesting.
I’m going to look out for the specs of the 12” MacBook and the rumoured 13” MacBook and see, although I’m guessing they won’t be as impressive as the 13” quad core and 6 core MacBook Pro’s.
Just ordered mid-level space gray 15”, 2.6GHz, 32GB memory and 512GB with an ETA of 7/26 - 7/30.
"I just ordered / bought / canceled / got my new/refurb MBP"
Got a little spooked by the recent threads regarding heat compared to last year's model (which I have for work - 2.9 GHz / 16GB). Leaning towards re-ordering with the 2.2GHz option but will see how things play out over the week.
Indeed, the specs won't be anywhere near close to those of the quad core/6 core Pro's. However, the main difference is the fan for me, as you know the 12" MacBook is fanless, it's very hard to go back to something else once you have tried it/got used to it. I had to check something on my secondary windows laptop the other day and when the fan kicked interrible.

Whoop, DOD delivery scheduled for tomorrow
This must be the first batch of BTO 13"ers to go out...
Woo! Just snagged my "ultimate" config 13 inch MBP 2018 from the Apple store - i7/16/1 TB. I had to convince the specialist they had them in stock . Ask me any questions you may have about it! Seems like a wonderful and snappy system so far. I'm installing Parallels right now, and that along with Spotlight, iPhoto and Mail sync, sure is making the fans blast lol.
I love the size. My job is to travel between multiple hospitals doing inpatient consults. I couldn't imagine lugging the 15 in model room to room, and even the extra weight in the backpack would be unpleasant. I've been using a 2015 13 in MBP, which also is heavier, thicker, larger in general. How does the size seem to you? How is it when having two documents open side by side? And how fast does it seem when booting up and loading apps?
Congratulations on you’re new machine by the way![]()

I think 13 inch is the sweet spot for me. It's still an incredibly powerful machine and will be able to multitask multiple hospital record systems simultaneously with ease. I have a 27" 4K monitor at home along with mouse/keyboard, so I plug that in if I want bigger. This thing just seems so damn portable for how powerful it is.
It is instant booting apps. Like, impressively fast, and that's while I'm still doing the initial loading of photos, etc. I've already tried running it with both Citrix open and Parallels with Windows 10, and nothing is slowing it down.
The jury is still out on heat and battery life. Right now the fans are running and the bottom is warm, but not hot. Haven't tried battery life yet, probably won't really try to test it for a few days to let setup completely finish.
I also thought of buying a refurb one like the one you have..with i5 or i7... is it worth it like new and no missing keyboards or they falling off after a few months of use. Can you get Apple Care as well?
I don't see b&h any more offering apple care as separate product. so confused. only some uni stores has for $259, but not sure if thats comparable with new MacBook Pro.In the past, B&H Photo had discounted Applecare pricing. Don't know about now though.
This is one case where I'd really advise you to return it and get the 2018 model.
While I realize $200 may seem like a lot of money depending on your financial situation, the difference in both speed and longevity will be night and day. Even in the $1799 base model the CPU in the 2018 model can literally be twice as fast as the fastest 2017 model. While you do get the 512GB SSD, storage is something you can always add more of externally later. Processing power however is set in stone.
I have a 2016 13" rMBP and as much as I'm not happy about the lower tier models not (yet?) being upgraded, I'm still probably going to upgrade as the difference in CPU is just revelatory.
A dual core machine for $1600 in 2018 is really just an incredibly bad deal. Normally I'd say "in 1-2 years the difference will be huge," but in this case I can honestly say the difference in performance TODAY will be huge.
