I don't understand why you think Apple should abrogate their duty to their stockholders (and employees) by giving away something they don't seem to need to give away.

So long as enough folks are willing to pony up the extra money for the upgrades, and for so long as Apple is selling as many units as they wish, they'd be be stupid to not NOT maximize revenue...

Because Apple has NEVER done it before ? And good press is good press. The cost of double the storage between 128 and 256 isn’t much to begin with

Even more reason they would continue to differentiate the two models and collect the additional revenue from those who need the upgraded model.

You say they should abandon that additional revenue. Why? How does reduced revenue benefit the shareholders and employees?

Is it worth upgrading from 2015 Mackbook pro 15 i7/16gb/256gb to. 2017 MacBook Pro i7/16gb/256gb?
Thinking of selling 2015 version before warranty expires and get used 2017 to extend warranty on my mackbook pro.

What do you guys say?

Well, I finally pulled the trigger. For so long, I wanted to buy the 2015 15" MBP, but I just cannot see paying the near-$2000 prices still being asked for a three year old design, even though I love that keyboard. I decided to go in at the lower end of the line: 2017 13" MBP Retina w/o TB, 8 gig ram and 256 SSD. That will hold me for now. And the price was decent at BH Photo.

Of course Apple would release the new one the day after I order. For what I use, I won't need quad core, so I'm happy with the dual-core i5 3.1GHz with 16GB.

I could.. but I'm not sure it would be worth it. ~$500 for the same configuration.

I'm not sure if I would see much between 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 vs 3.1GHz dual-core Intel Core i5

Being that I want the 13", I can't get more that 16GB RAM anyway.

Just got my refurb base 2017 15” MBP! It is absolutely pristine (and with no backlight bleed!...sigh of relief).

As an icing on the cake, they’re now a little under CDN$200 (after taxes) less than yesterday! Thanks to the newer six-core MBP’s that I do not need, the price went down!

That’s a total of $700+ savings for me...yay!!!

Oh, and they look absolutely the same as the new ones so, yay again!

Anyone know how these machines will compare to my 2011 MacBook Pro? Seriously considering the upgrade as I’m not sure waiting any longer will be worth it.

My options are the 13” or go all out on another 15” to future proof it (currently have a 15” 2011 MacBook Pro)

I ordered 15" with updated CPU and RAM this morning. I run VMs so the extra RAM will really help.

Got pre-auth on credit card at time of order. And just saw the full charge hit so I guess it may ship today.

I got it 1 week ago so there was no "price drop" due to the newer 2018 model....

Lol. You sound like someone in absolute buyers remorse. Yay! Haha.

Just ordered my 2018 15” MBP with upgraded i7 and 512GB RAM. With AppleCare and tax comes out to around $3500. That’s the most I’ve ever spent on a computer desktop or notebook. It was totally an impulse buy, I don’t care I just want it, don’t judge me, lol.
