I’ve just come away with the deal of the century!

Currently have a Late 2012 model iMac which has done well by me, but I was due an upgrade and wanted something with a bit with more grunt, and something that was a lot more modern and portable.

So after hours and hours of research, and with my £700 budget considered, I set out searching for a 2015 MacBook Pro 13”.

Spent around a week looking for the right one, and somehow, I stumbled across a 2017 MacBook Pro 13” WITH Touchbar (3.1Ghz with 256GB SSD) for £700!!!
Second hand, these go for around £1,200-£1,300 in the UK.

Was in a pawn shop local to me so I went there without hesitation to inspect.

I couldn’t believe my eyes and thought that’s obviously too good to be true. Must be something wrong with it, cracked screen, bad condition, faulty... but no, nothing wrong with it at all and it was in MINT condition.
Battery charge cycle, 28! And still in warranty with Apple until October this year.

I can only assume the Pawn shop didn’t know what model they had.
They under valued it by at least £500.

This model brand new from Apple is £1,749.

Couldn’t believe my luck!!
Wow! That’s phenomenal! I spent a few weeks looking and found that same model for 1200 USD (not sure the exchange, but I would guess that is around £1000–forgive my ignorance if it is way off).

Congrats

Think that’s around £900.
That’s a good price too though.

Was that 1200USD including tax?

I got a 128GB MacBook Pro for $949 at Best Buy during their recent sale last week. With tax, the total was $1014.

Considering the 2017 MacBook Pro has been on the market for over a year now, I could not justify spending extra for the 256GB model, and I will only keep this one for about a year or so. This was one of the best deals I've ever gotten on an Apple product.

Don't get why Apple is still selling the 128GB other then to force people to spend more money lol. 128GB after you factor in the OS means you get so little space for anything.

Just because it was below a grand$$, doesn't mean it was a good deal. You'll fill that 128GB up pretty quickly, and someday, when you go to sell the thing on eBay or Craig's List or whatever, the resale value will be nothing but pennies on the dollar. You should have spent another $100 and got the 256GB.

Actually, it costs an additional $200 to bump-up to 256gb, but I agree, it’s TOTALLY worth it.

Two months ago I also purchased a 128gb MBP from Best Buy for “only” $999. It only took 24 hours for me to regret this choice. I was shocked how fast the drive filled up, leaving me only 30gb free. Then over the next two weeks I agonized over which apps to delete, and which files to keep in the cloud. By the time I realized the time spent was FAR more valuable than the $200 I “saved”, I was beyond my two-week return window.

Luckily I was able to sell it on Craigslist for the same $999 I paid, losing only the $88 sales tax.

Durng Best Buy's recent $350-off Memorial Day sale, I jumped at the chance to get a 256gb MBP 13. Since I needed a MacBook Pro NOW for my work, that price made up for it being a 2017 model (even though it’s Apple's current offering).

Some just don't need it, I just got a 2015 13" 128gb refurb for my wife, she only uses email and browsing that's it, also my daughter has our old 2013 13" 128gb and is fine with it. We keep them till they die.
For me i couldn't would go 256gb, and my 20 year old son struggles with his 128gb but he uses pro logic for guitar recording, is handling it though he wanted 16gb ram so that's what he could afford used at the time.

So ? Still dumb to offer it as much as it’s dumb for a 64GB iPhone at this point. Apple should of made the base iPhone at 128GB the same as MacBooks base should be 256GB. The cost difference to do both shouldn’t hurt the bottom line much .

So means if you don’t need it you don’t have to pay, they won’t double the gb for nothing, I only need 64gb X too, you heard of iCloud.

Why? Given that the current base models are sufficient for many people, why "should" Apple do something different? My wife and daughter have zero use for any more than the base capacities of Macbook or phone. Looking at my iphone7, it's a 128GB model yet it's showing 77.65 GB available... and thats only because I haven't bothered to clean out a bunch of crap.

So *why* should Apple do things they way you think they should? So more people can buy the base model and not pay extra for an upgraded version? Think they'd really do that? :)

First off 128GB on a phone and a laptop is Comparing an apple to an orange at this point.

My 64GB iPhone X has 35GB used

My 2017 15 inch MacBook Pro with 512GB has 200GB used.

As you can clearly tell a 64GB iPhone is sufficient but not for

64GB isn’t enough. It’s useable but I have simply not downloaded anything and streaming more hoping sprint don’t slow me down

iCloud ? Umm the service that only includes 5GB for free ? You also can’t download anything locally for offline use aka music and movies so still moot. iCloud is a joke and the only reason I’m paying for the 50gb option is because of my photo library is over 5GB and need space for my iPhone backup. Apple could of made the base model at 128GB but then nobody would buy the even more stupid expensive 256gb model

That's nice. You missed the point. It's that many people's needs are fully satisfied with the current base storage configurations.

My wife's 128GB laptop has little to nothing on it other than macOS. I haven't checked utilization lately, but she doesn't create/store content in any volume whatsoever. She surfs the web, orders stuff online, and uses email.

Same for my daughter's laptop.

Sure, *your* needs may not be met and you need to buy the upgraded version. So do I.

That still doesn't answer the question of why Apple should make a change. (other than your hopes of not paying as much for what you need)

Who’s arguing price or what being used ? You missed the point. Apple should make the base 256gb at the same price. At the price you’re paying for it 128gb is just to low.

Apple's duty is to maximize value to their shareholders.

In that context, explain again why they should offer more storage at the base level and lose the revenue generated by selling the upgrade models?

You say that 128GB of storage is "just to [sic] low" - Is Apple not meeting their sales targets for those models?

Because adding double the storage is going to hurt their bottom line ?

Apparently so.

Let's say 10000 people a year pay the extra $200 to buy the 256GB version since the 128GB is the base version. Just a random number for illustration. I have no idea what the reality is. Let's further say Apple drops 128Gb and makes 256GB the base version at the current cost of the 128GB version. Now those people don't pay extra. Again, super-simplified example, any sort of thoughts about substitution effect and sales lost to other brands vs new sales gained and yada yada aren't the point.

Perhaps you're so rich that a $2,000,000 difference in revenue is nothing to you, but product managers tend to notice numbers like that on the P&L.

I have 256gb in my MacBook Pro (net 251gb after formatting). With everything I use on a daily basis on the machine, I still have 228gb available. And this is with Creative Cloud and all of my dev apps installed. Not everyone needs 256gb, so why slam Apple for offering a lower cost model?

Whatever it takes to get more people into the ecosystem is exactly what they are going to do. All the while maximizing profit for their shareholders.

Just Got My 1st EVER Macbook Pro!!!

I got a 2017 15" Space Gray with Touch bar 3.1 GHz i7 w/1Tb SSD and Radeon Pro 560. I got it from Adorama for $3348 shipped. This is my 1st Mac ever, cant wait to really start using it. Going to get the clear skins from Bestskinsever at least on the top, bottom and the wrist rests.

i just got a late 2011 15" macbook pro. i found a listing in the same town as me, so i got it within 2 hours after messaging the seller.

it came wit a 120gb ssd and 4gb of ram, which i promptly upgraded to 16. despite apple saying the max is 8gb it works just fine for some reason.

i'm aware of the issues with the gpu, and i immediately installed fan control and temperature monitoring software.

i'm incredibly happy with this laptop. so happy to be done with windows for school stuff. Mac's are just better for productivity in my opinion.

During the past few weeks, I've been searching for a 2015 13" rMBP. Over the weekend, I stumbled upon a semi-brand new rMBP TB. Price was a bit higher then I wanted to pay but after a bit of negotiation, I picked up the rMBP later that night.

Mid-2017 13" rMBP TB 3.5GHz/1TB/16GB with AC+.

If only there was a company named Samsung, and they made a device named T5 1TB SSD USB 3 for $350 retail. What a waste to pay more for internal storage when there are much cheaper fast external mobile solutions. Your usage doesn't mean a thing for the someone else, why do you, and others, refuse to see that?

And who’s saying I think Apple should charge more ? They should replace the 128gb base and replace it with the 256gb as the base and the same price. What don’t you understand?

I don't understand why you think Apple should abrogate their duty to their stockholders (and employees) by giving away something they don't seem to need to give away.

So long as enough folks are willing to pony up the extra money for the upgrades, and for so long as Apple is selling as many units as they wish, they'd be be stupid to not NOT maximize revenue...
