I purchased a 2018 15" i7 2.6ghz 32gb 560X 1Tb MBP on 7/22 from Adorama, and just received a UPS tracking notification, without any heads-up from either Apple or Adorama. Shipment says its from "TECH-FRONT SHA COMPUTER CO.", and its 3.30 kgs. Couldn't really be anything else but the MBP. I bought this one, with the $100 Apple Insider coupon: https://www.adorama.com/acz0v3mr9725.html. https://deals.appleinsider.com/deal...book-pro-with-no-tax-in-48-states-0-financing.

Anyway, thought this might be useful info for others that have ordered, or may be considering ordering, from Adorama. You won't get a whole lot of feedback on your order if you go this route, but it wasn't a terrible amount of time to wait, either.

I purchased a 2018 15" i7 with the base 2.2ghz processor, 32gb ram and a 512 ssd. I ordered it from my campus store so in addition to the free beats and education discount, it was tax free! I ordered it last monday but due to pioneer day (gotta love utah) the order wasn't placed until wednesday, so I'm expecting it this friday or monday. I can't wait! I'm replacing my 2015 13" MacBook Pro that was great, but I need to run multiple VMs for school, etc. I'm stoked.

How'd you get it tax free?

I tried with our school store but still get a tax :(

Sweet Christmas!

My TB_MBP 13” [2.3Ghz i5/16GB/512GB] arrived super early; yesterday! I picked it up today and to be quite honest I’m nervous and excited like a kid that got THE best Transformer/GI Joe toy that over never got as a kid!

edu discount allowed me the Beats Solo3s which I’ve yet to open as well - wanted to trade these in for the Decade edition (black/red vs the all matte black I received) yet Apple is NOT having it :( not complaining though.

My MBP arrived 8 days early, outstanding job Apple!

I’ve got a LOT of reading and advancing my skills on OSX ... although I have a MBA 2011 the setup was a rush job and I haven’t had a brand new Mac in over 8yrs.

New thread on questions for setup coming up! Just wanting to enjoy looking at the new toy for a bit while updating and moving documents from multiple storage locations into 1.
Glad about this opinion! I've used to have 2016 TB MBP 15" but returned it - posted video on the forums here with rattling noise from inside the machine.

And it has arrived. Having a 500gb external SSD makes quick work of transferring files over to the new machine.

Looking good!

Observations:

- DAMN this machine is super quick - at everything! Then again coming from 2011 MBA Core i5 it should.
- MBA recently had issues accessing Mac formatted external USB 2.0 drives. Almost as if the MBA just new I was replacing it. I'm VERY happy that the Apple TB AV Adapter I have works without fail.
- Touch Typing: is sweet and responsive! The 2017 MPB 13s in the store don't have the ease of compression/rebound that I'm noticing!! (I've been touch typing for 32yrs; started off with manual typewriters)
- Touch Bar: VERY useful for me - don't know what all the fuss is about, but for some they have their reasons. For me some adjustment since I have to relearn touch typing and reaching for the touch bar, but I love it .
(Federighi does implement some nice things; from time to time)
- Logitech MX Anywhere 2S uses a Logitech Unified USB-A adapter; FUDGE! Gotta think of something or a hub for home is required as I wish to connect the MBP to my TV for home use; this way I can eat and drink on the coffee table without worry of spilling liquids or getting crumbs on this slick puppy.
- TrueTone Display ... works just like iPhones and new iPads; definitely an improvement over simulated non-TrueTone displays.
- Siri (or any current AI) ... I'm still finding it hard to talk to my laptop (Mac or Windows) even though I've been waiting for this since Apple's Navigator concept 30yrs ago.
- Heat Dissapation: This is a BIG one for me; more now than ever. it's nearly 29 Celsius in my apartment with AC and I cannot use this MBP on my lap wearing shorts. Aluminum holds heat FAR to long and quickly. I now know why shell cases for MBP is pretty much a necessity.
- iOS Keyboard shortcuts does NOT sync to High Sierra ... why??!

FYI: I'm consolidating my data onto the MBP and then replicating to 2 different cloud storages just in case!

All in all I'm in heaven and don't want to sleep yet :D
PS: unable to upload Animoji :(

Nice observations, will definitely share mine, although I'm still on the verge about getting 2018 MBP 13" - I have a PC and "old" MBP 13" 2012. My wife uses the MBP now so I'm left with PC only - not very mobile.

It’s finally here! i5/16GB/512GB :)

Yeah mine is 13", super happy with it.

any noise from the inside when you're moving the machine rapidly?
2 years ago I've encountered this:

I hope Apple's QA has improved.

How's the keyboard for you?
I'm not one to go out looking for faults/flaws. So far my machine has been perfect, if I notice or come across anything during my use, then so be it. But no, so far I haven't heard any noises or rattling.

Ordered a 2018 13" i5/16/512 on 7/28. Was just delivered this AM. Im going to be returning my base 15". The 15" has just become to cumbersome to carry with me to work everyday. I do love the extra screen real estate but while I'm home I'm docked into a 32" LG 4k display. For $200 less than the base model 15" Im getting a more portable computer with 512 vs 256 of storage and very similar performance for my needs which to its extreme is 4k drone video editing. This will last me my typical upgrade cycle of 3 years.

I do understand your point, however since the machine costs a lot of money, I am counting on it NOT RATTLING :) when moving it from one place to another.

Oh no I completely agree, and if I ever notice anything that's not right I'll be straight onto Apple. I just think some people seem determined to find flaws with their machines instead of just enjoying it. "Display manufacturer LG vs Samsung" is one that springs to mind...

How do you find the speed on the 13”? did you get the i5 or i7? personally I’m looking at the i5, 16GB, 512GB.
I've got that very config; Didn't feel the i7 justified the price increase. Speed is great, I've upgraded from an early 2015 12" MacBook, so might be noticing a bigger increase in speed from others upgrading from previous MBPs. As I say, so far I'm really happy with it.

That rattling sounds like a large piece moving about. I suspect it’s the 3D Touch component within or potentially an unseated fan. Batteries are terraced so there can’t be any side to side movement. Motherboard is bolted down as well. Hope you got to return it or have it repaired.

Absolutely no issues on the 13” for 2018.

Keyboard is sweet, especially for touch typing. I still have to adjust to look at the Touchbar but very affective and very useful it seems to be clairvoyant to the tasks I wan to do. I have no idea why so many dislike it, yet a few do rely on touch typing using function keys very few minutes based on their jobs. I can say 1 thing is it kinda not makes sense to have video thumbnails that are so tiny, and while scrubbing would be nice to show the video preview next to your finger to better see it vs under your finger.

Effective setup, more value and use than you had before. To me screen real estate is solved by window sizing as well as placement. When I place messages in the corner I want it to stay there and after one minimize and restore from the dock it remains in the corner I want. Even after a restart! Windows 10 doesn’t do this after a restart.

I agree. To ME a laptops usefulness is defined by its portability and power. If I can get roughly the same power out of a vastly more portable device, the choice is a no brainer. It allows me to bring it more places, travel with it more frequently and not think twice about taking it somewhere.

Wow. All I can say is wow! I ordered my 13" MacBook Pro core i7 2.7Ghz, 16gb RAM, 256Gb, on Wednesday July 25 in the early morning hours and it arrived today! A full two days early. I have been watching it close on tracking and I never thought it would make it so soon given two of those days were over a weekend, but it did. I did pay the extra $8.00 for expedited shipping but still, pretty impressive. Thanks apple and thanks to this forum. Good luck everyone!

How are you liking your new Mac thus far? First impressions?

Completely agree. I recall when Apple made the first 12” PowerBook G4 which I missed out on and wanted that machine so badly. The 13” Alu_MB was great for a time ... but when I saw the 2016 I was like wow and with this years performance upgrades I was ready and pulled the trigger.

For anyone else still unsure if 13” vs 15” just think of OSX’s Spaces ;)

Just order a 15" MBP 2.2/16/555x/512 current lead time is middle of next week. I've always owned 2nd hand MacBooks, so I'm super excited to have a brand new one.

Hi Guys,

I ordered a 13' macbook pro 16GB, 512GB 10 days ago. Today i received a message that it is out for delivery. I just looked at my purchase order and saw that I selected the wrong keyboard layout!! Very stupid, but in my defense: in the apple store the layout is standard Dutch, where in the Netherlands most people use a US layout.

My question: is it possible to return a custom build macbook pro in the Netherlands? And do you think I can order a new one now and wait for the return or do I first have to send it back, wait for approval and then order?

Thanks!

You can order the new one with the right keyboard now, and then just return the original order within 14 days.

Thanks! just to be certain: Returning BTO items is not clearly stated in Apple’s return policy. It says that personlized items like an encraved ipad are excluded. Ofcourse I understand that but is a BTO macbook not also personalized?

I have the same config, it's pretty great. I was having second thoughts--looking at the base 15 inch model--but this thing feels snappy and the size is nice and I actually like the keyboard. Again, for reference I'm coming from a 2011 13inch MBP.

Just picked up my new MacBook Pro 15" base model this morning. I drove three hours to New Hampshire just to purchase it without sales tax and save myself $200, since I saw they had it in stock at the Best Buy just across the state line. I'm really glad I bought this machine, I love it.

I'm coming from a 13" 2015 MacBook Pro, so this is a big upgrade. Four more cores, bigger better screen, much better speakers, 8 GB more RAM, a dedicated graphics card, and it's only half a pound heavier. I'm actually downgrading from a 512 GB in my 13" to the 256 GB SSD in this machine, but I'm okay with that because I only filled up a quarter of the 512 GB in the three years I've owned it. Plus, I still *have* that machine and all of its storage space. So I couldn't justify spending an extra $400 to get 512 GB. I'd have to either buy the $2800 stock model, or custom order one with the $200 SSD upgrade and pay $200 of New York sales tax on it. Anyways, no regrets.

This was not purchased out of need, it was purchased out of pure want. The only problem with my old machine was a couple of minor cosmetic issues with the screen. I'm not a "pro" user by any stretch of the imagination. I'm just a baker who likes MacOS and is willing to spend some extra cash to get a premium laptop, because I do spend an inordinate amount of time at my computer. And in my opinion, the MacBook Pro is the only truly premium laptop on the market. There aren't any Windows laptops with quality speakers and trackpads; they're mediocre at best. The manufacturers all cut corners because they know their users will just use headphones/mice to overcome the deficiencies. It's things like that that make me willing to pay the Apple tax. Plus the OS. I'll gladly pay more to avoid the headaches of Windows.
