I just sold my 15" 2018 (2.6/16/512/560X) and got a 13" refurb.

2.3/16/512 for only $2459 CAD before tax.

What was your estimated ship date? Mine shows a delivery date of 10/20-10/23. So hopefully it'll be here before Thanksgiving.

Ordered as soon as they went live and with expedited shipping shows Nov 20—23. I am leaving for a 5 month motorcycle trip at midnight Nov 23 so they better be on time. :)

Woot! Finally, my first new Mac laptop since my 2009 17" MBP. Best part of all: I didn't pay for it ;)
  • 2.9GHz 6‑core 8th‑generation Intel Core i9 processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.8GHz
  • Radeon Pro Vega 20 with 4GB of HBM2 memory
  • 32GB 2400MHz DDR4 memory
  • 1TB SSD storage
  • Pro Apps Bundle for Education

I picked up mine yesterday. I keep going back and forth between looking at my bank account and thinking, "Holy s... that's a lot of money, I can't keep this" to using the MacBook Pro and saying "This is such a good experience, I can't return it." Seriously, I've regretted getting a Dell XPS every since I got it because I did it to save money when I really wanted the MacBook Pro. I know if I return the MBP, I'll just continue to long after it and think about switching back. But also, I'm a college student working a part time, low paying job who already bought an iPhone XS Max this year, and even after selling the XPS, I'd be spending a lot of money for a laptop that's more of a luxury desire than it is a necessity.

Here's why I prefer the MBP:
  • Build quality. The form factor and solid build is incredible. Truly on another level.
  • The keyboard. I don't get the hate. I type faster and more accurately, it feels more stable, and it feels more high quality.
  • The screen. So beautiful. I also like the ratio.
  • macOS. The privacy, security, looks, integration with my iPhone and iPad, FCPX and Logic Pro X. I feel more at home, creative, and empowered with it.
  • Speakers blow me away.
Here's why I might return the MBP:
  • It's a lot of money. It's a lot of money. IT'S A LOT OF MONEY.
  • My Dell XPS still worked like new.
We'll see what I do within the next 12 days.

Just ordered this beast:

MBP 2018 Space Gray
2.9GHz 6‑core 8th‑generation Intel Core i9 processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.8GHz
Radeon Pro Vega 20 with 4GB of HBM2 memory
32GB 2400MHz DDR4 memory
2TB SSD storage

Coming from a 2015 top-spec MBP, this will be quite the upgrade. I am a graphic designer also doing photography and 3D-renderings, so will be using it for:

All Adobe apps
Final Cut Pro X
Capture One
Keyshot

Really looking forward to 32GB ram and the VEGA graphics. Annoyed that the 2TB SSD upgrade is so expensive, but it's almost as expensive to buy an external TB3 SSD – USB-C external SSD's just doesn't cut it for speed. I have a few of them, but the RAW speed of the internal SSD is almost worth the upgrade-price.

It's a needed investment, though Haven't spend money myself on a MBP since 2009 (the 2015 was a gift from work), so that is the ONLY reason I am doing this, as this machine is INSANELY expensive in Denmark. Oh well, I can still get decent money for the 2015-model, it's with 16GB ram and 1TB SSD.

I just ordered...
- MBP 2018 (Space Gray)
- 2.6GHz 6-core i7 processor
- Radeon Pro 560x
- 16GB RAM
- 512GB storage
- Refurbished

I last owned a 2012 MBP, so I'm looking forward to see how big a step up this is. I do game design in Unity, and use Adobe apps.

I just ordered a 13" 2018 TB i5, 512GB. Currently using a 2012 MBA, i5, 128GB which has been fine for my needs. Except for today when it ground to an absolute halt editing some raw photos. I'm wondering if it's really going to feel like an improvement or if I'm going to feel dumb for spending the money on an unnecessary upgrade. It's an eBay purchase of a new/sealed unit so I'm also a little nervous about whether it's a scam/stolen/something wrong with it but I guess I will find out in a few days.

Was able to get a return on my month old 15" and upgraded to the same 15" with the Vega Pro 20, and 2TB SSD upgrades. I had bought it online but went to return it an Apple Store, which they were very helpful with.

Other than my wife's loaded 2.8/512/16 machine I bought in late 2013, which I don't count, I just bought my first machine since October of 2008 (my current 2010 was an AC replacement for that one).

And as someone who has always bought launch day hardware in top BTO spec, I never would've thought it would be a 3.5 year old base model refurb, but I just bought me a mid-2015 2.2/256/16 15". So excited to finally join the retina crowd, and thrilled to be able to continue to natively drive me 24" LED ACD with nothing more than a little Magsafe --> Magsafe 2 adapter, which is no big deal. And I'll get dark mode on Mojave!

Can't wait. $1700 seems so much more reasonable for a 15" to me these days compared to the ridiculous prices Apple is now asking. $3k used to get me a top of the line 15", now $3k seems to only let me get a RAM upgrade on the new models, with prices pushing well north of $4k for a machine with a 1TB SSD but that is otherwise maxed out. After building machines on Apple's site for weeks, $1700 seems like a positive bargain.

Did it get marked as shipped or did it show up in UPS my choice or something?

I ordered mine on the 14th, it shipped Friday and UPS shows mine awaiting release at clearing agency. What concerns me is that UPS shows it being shipped to Independence, Kansas but I live in Independence, Missouri. I’ve double and triple checked my order through Apple and it has my address correct, so we’ll see.

I’m sure it’ll be fine. Mine showed up today as shipped in Shanghai.

I just bought the following:

Refurbished 15.4-inch MacBook Pro 2.9GHz 6-core Intel Core i9 with Retina display - Space Grey

Touch Bar with integrated Touch ID sensor
15.4-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit display with IPS technology; 2880x1800 native resolution at 220 pixels per inch
32GB of 2400MHz DDR4 onboard memory
2TB SSD
720p FaceTime HD Camera
Radeon Pro Graphics 560X

Anything I should look out for?

Many thanks.
"Anything I should look out for?"

Lol - I sure is but it's gorgeous and will hopefully get around 6 years use out of it.

I must admit I'm also waiting for the Vega Reviews and Black Friday. I may order the i7 2.6 with Vega GPU and return this one if the reviews are promising.

My order has been showing a Tuesday delivery until today. Supposedly there was a flight delay and now I won't get it until tomorrow. I'm a little frustrated because it arrived in my city at 6:43 AM this morning. And it's scheduled to be delivered tomorrow at about 3. So it will be within a short drive from me for over a day. Oh, well. I'm charging up the batteries on my infrared camera so I'm ready to do some heat comparisons with my other laptops.

Getting frustrated with FedEx.

MBP is being delivered today. Paid for better shipping and the best they can do is "before 8:00 PM."

Called them yesterday, it was hell to get through to a guy, wanted to see about holding at location since it does appear as an option. Just wanted to know what time I could pick it up in that case (AM or PM), because I'd expect to be able to pick it up in the AM if I tell them to hold it before it even gets to the facility and it's never going to get put on a truck. They told me no dice on a hold at location until they've made one delivery attempt. I know this might be an Apple requirement, but it's just stupid. So much for that.

Then my tracking said sign up for a FedEx account to get an estimated delivery time, so I did. I know this isn't available on all shipments, but it was literally on my tracking, and I paid for better shipping, and it's coming from Apple so if any package would have it, you'd think this would be it. Biggest scam on earth, went through all that, got 5 junk emails, and that info is nowhere to be found, even now that the package is on the truck and the route should be determined for the day.

Tried calling 5 times just to ask if I could get an estimated delivery time, got disconnected every single time I got to the representative hold.

Found an online chat, broken in both Safari and Chrome, perpetual times outs.

I just want to ask a 5 second question FFS.

So I did the pre-sign authorization form and it's taped to my door, it tells the guy hey I'm actually home so please knock first but if not here are TWO places you can leave it. I was nervous to do this just because it's at their discretion whether to leave it or not and I'm sure they will come up with some BS reason like "Oh I couldn't open your gate to the backyard" even though it's barely 4 feet tall with a single basic latch right at the top in plain sight. I don't really trust those pre-authorization forms.

Why are shipping logistics still so poor in 2018? Why do I have to sit around for eleven hours from the time it was put on a truck waiting for a delivery in this day and age because they can't do better? This is totally asinine in today's world, I should be able to track the truck live with GPS.

I ordered the same machine (MBP 13" 2018 TB i5, 16GB memory and 512GB disk) off the refurb site and picked it a few days ago --- my first ever purchase from the Apple refurb store.

This morning, it froze up after I closed the lid and reopened it a few minutes later (on battery power) --- mouse arrow would move around the screen (both using trackpad and magic mouse) but the keyboard and mouse/trackpad "clicks" had no actions at all. Forced power down and power-up again seemed to correct the problem, but now I'm nervous with the 14-day return period coming to an end if maybe I got a "lemon" and should return it.

Anyone else see similar problems?

TYIA.

I doubt it's a lemon, more likely the refurbishment process overlooked something. For peace of mind though, I'd say return/exchange it.
