Just joined the Apple Family
After years and years of Windows Desktops (Generic "Pulstar", followed by Gateway, then Micron PC), I ended up with a Toshiba Qosmio laptop with 17-inch screen and lots of high-end gear (for the time). It was also about the size of an iMac, weighing in at around 9.5 lbs. Anyway, after 5-years of relatively dependable service with a rough final year (dead LCD, faulty Video card, dead keys, and just plain slow at anything), it was definitely time to upgrade.
I did a lot research and liked a lot of the HP's and even the new Dell Studio XPS 13 or 16. I was also encouraged and intrigued by the new Windows 7 promises.
But, I have to admit to being very attracted to the new MacBook Pro lineup of laptops. Ever since getting my first iPod Mini, then iPod 30 GB and finally the iPod Touch 2G 32GB, I've become more and more impressed with Apple's work and more and more "disloyal" to "PC".
My brother (12" PowerBook and later 13" MacBook in Black) also spoke extremely highly of Apple.
So, on Sunday, I took the plunge and ordered the following:
MacBook Pro 15-inch, 2.8 GHz, 4 GB Ram, 500 GB HD 7200 rpm, 9400/9600 512 Video Card and everything else standard on that model. The only other added options were the Display Port to DVI adapter and iWork software.
I can't explain how excited I am about receiving the new Mac!
Of course, with one expense comes several others. First, transferring my old data to my new laptop (likely using an external HD), getting some additional software, especially for DSLR photography (NEF raw files from Nikon), Video editing, bag / cases, and additional peripherals, such as the Mighty Mouse and Keyboard so as not to overuse the laptop keys when I don't have to.
I'm not sure if I need a separate post for all of the above as I just joined, but I welcome any feedback.
