Congratulations! Hope you love it like I'll do :D

UPDATE (13 July - 06:55): "Your package is on time with a scheduled delivery date of 13/07/2009." It's coming today :D :D :D
"DEWSBURY GB 13/07/2009 4:58 OUT FOR DELIVERY" What does that mean? Does it mean they've set off to come to my house?

Yup. Means its loaded on the delivery van and will arrive today :) Good luck!

Mine, since friday, has had "in transit to customer" but the date of that update was set to today, and it says a tracking number will be available soon. So hopefully UPS will get mine today in holland and it'll be here within the next few days. Apple still say thursday, though..

BIG MULTI QUOTE POST! LOTS OF QUESTIONS AND UPDATES

Good to hear about the battery changing, I guess it's just like the ones for the 2008 models except it's inside.
Also, do you have any iPhone headphones? I want to know if the microphone on the iPhone headset will work with the MacBook Pro along with the headphones itself.

Sorry no. Sincerelly I don't like iPhone. I'm an old Palm user so I'm waiting for the new Pre here in Europe

Mine switched to UK DISTRIBUTION CENTER today around 5pm, and at that point the Wx web order ID matched by reference on ups.com to give me the tracking number and "Billing Information Recieved", around 6pm apple updated its status to include that UPS tracking number, and change the estimated delivery date to tomorrow :D

Ah, it's OK.

TUAW: iPhone headphone mic works with new laptops (and previous MBPs?)

According to the above article they work with the 1st Gen Unibody, so they should work with the current Gen.
Thanks for that, will try sometime soon :)

That's the time when mine changed to, well around it :p And congrats! :D

:p Probably in the same batch.

Anyhow, my Mac arrived at 9AM while I was at school and managed to check the tracking at lunchtime and was pleased to see it had arrived and been signed for. I can only describe it with one word...amazing! I can't wait to try this baby even more. I love the MagSafe and the other cool stuff which I'll talk about on the weekend :D

One thing that concerns me though is that the SuperDrive sounds like a motorbike :/ Is this normal? And god was the rebate a pain in the ass, I had to cut my precious Mac Box open to get the EAN as it wouldn't peel, same with the iPod :(

I'll post more soon :)

Just joined the Apple Family

After years and years of Windows Desktops (Generic "Pulstar", followed by Gateway, then Micron PC), I ended up with a Toshiba Qosmio laptop with 17-inch screen and lots of high-end gear (for the time). It was also about the size of an iMac, weighing in at around 9.5 lbs. Anyway, after 5-years of relatively dependable service with a rough final year (dead LCD, faulty Video card, dead keys, and just plain slow at anything), it was definitely time to upgrade.

I did a lot research and liked a lot of the HP's and even the new Dell Studio XPS 13 or 16. I was also encouraged and intrigued by the new Windows 7 promises.

But, I have to admit to being very attracted to the new MacBook Pro lineup of laptops. Ever since getting my first iPod Mini, then iPod 30 GB and finally the iPod Touch 2G 32GB, I've become more and more impressed with Apple's work and more and more "disloyal" to "PC".

My brother (12" PowerBook and later 13" MacBook in Black) also spoke extremely highly of Apple.

So, on Sunday, I took the plunge and ordered the following:

MacBook Pro 15-inch, 2.8 GHz, 4 GB Ram, 500 GB HD 7200 rpm, 9400/9600 512 Video Card and everything else standard on that model. The only other added options were the Display Port to DVI adapter and iWork software.

I can't explain how excited I am about receiving the new Mac!

Of course, with one expense comes several others. First, transferring my old data to my new laptop (likely using an external HD), getting some additional software, especially for DSLR photography (NEF raw files from Nikon), Video editing, bag / cases, and additional peripherals, such as the Mighty Mouse and Keyboard so as not to overuse the laptop keys when I don't have to.

I'm not sure if I need a separate post for all of the above as I just joined, but I welcome any feedback.

My New Laptop

Hi Everybody!

Last week I received my new MacBook Pro 15'' 3.06.

My original order was with an upgrade to the 500GB 7200RPM Hard drive, but after reading all the complaints about the "beeping", I switched to a 256 SSD.

It took me a while to get my head around paying the extra money, but at the end, it was a great decision. I couldn't be happier. This is the best laptop I ever had (I owned 5 other MBP).

Everything is perfect! The case, the screen, the keyboard... everything! It runs much, much cooler than my previous 2.4 MBP (Santa Rosa).

The responsiveness of the machine is fantastic. I can't believe it! I don't think I can go back to anything different than a SSD, after working with the new machine for a week.

Highly recommended!

Congratulations to all of the new Mac Owners/Users!

Cheers

Gus

Buying in-store

So next weekend I expect to be near an Apple Store, and while I'm there I'll be picking up the 13" MBP.

Since I'm buying this in the store, which is several hours away from me, is there anything special I should do? Can and should I open it in the store to make sure everything is right?

Also, are they likely to have it in stock? It's just the base 2.26Ghz model, so I doubt it'd be gone.

2 local Apple Stores are sold out of the higher-end 13" and the lower-end 15". I really didn't need the higher-end 13", so I just went with the base model. I had the higher-end uMB that I got in October, but I really wanted the SD card slot.

I really only use my computer for internet, e-mail, and word-processing so the base is fine for me.

the day has finally come... ;-)

So the day has finally made it. I took the plunge. I searched the internet and drooled over the many possibilities. I finally purchased a macbook pro. I finally have a job worth keeping and paid off my credit card. So now I could actually click submit instead of closing the browser. So heres how it went down.

On Sunday morning my girlfriend comes over and we head out to the apple store. I wasn't too excited because i had a bad feeling about the situation. When we arrived I went straight to the cashier to purchase the setup I wanted. I had already known what I wanted because as I mentioned before I spent endless hours searching, and creating all the possibilities of options there are in a Macbook. Anyway, as i was speaking to the cashier the eyes looked at me with sorrow. She said "I'm sorry but we are all out of the 13" 2.53 version, and i know that all the other stores in this area are out also. Your best bet is to order it online." I wasn't too surprised as I already had a feeling something would happen. I live in southern California and the nearest apple store is 30 min away, 2nd closest is about 45 mins away. I called the other stores and it was the truth, all out. Anyway, I got home and ordered it online only to see the order status would take 2-3 weeks. I ordered on the 12th, and estimated shipping date on the 27th and delivery on the 30th. This is gonna be excruciating. Well thats my story, now heres what i ordered.

- 13" MB Pro, 2.53 ghz, 4gb...etc\ EDUCATION PRICING :p
- 8 gb ipod touch 2nd gen (free w/ rebate) :D
- Mp 620 canon printer
- apple care ext coverage
- wiimote....jk apple remote

so now i must wait for the laptop. On the other hand the printer, ipod, and apple care come in on the 15th which is wed...whoopie...a printer without a laptop.... anyone know if apple is lying to me and it will be here tomorrow? haha
ok well, thanks for reading for those that did...

Just received my uni 17" w/3.06, AG, 500@7200....

I have the infamous "beep"

And after turning it over and looking at the beautiful aluminum bottom pan, I noticed a dent..... A FREAKIN DENT on the bottom of the case.

I have only used this thing on my bed, and I dont think that pillows have a tendency to "dent" things.

Any ideas as to what I should do?

Lifetime Windows user, always hated Macs. Extremely counter-intuitive with the program bar at the top. Never knew what programs I had opened or closed or what the hell was going on.

Got my MBP three months ago, didn't open it until last month (due to finals and other such time constraints). Now I love it. It's fantastic. I love my iPhone, and now I love my MBP. I've become an Apple fan. Never thought I'd live to see the day ;p

You've got quite a good spec there. And I think I'll need to do the same, I just got my laptop case today. Thinking of getting a MX Nano Wireless Mouse or maybe a Bluetooth one since the MacBook Pro does have Bluetooth. And congrats, my iPhone sorta made me change.

Just ordered:

Congrarts! I hope you get yours soon like me :D And also, what InCase Sleeve did you get?

Wow, you must have a lot of money to spare, congratulations. And yes SSD is the way to go I guess, I haven't made the switch yet due to MTBF.

I'd double check it at the store if you are doubting something, if not, just take it home and then see how it goes. But if I was you, I'd open it since it's quite a while away! Also, ring up and ask before you go.

Anyway, I got home and ordered it online only to see the order status would take 2-3 weeks. I ordered on the 12th, and estimated shipping date on the 27th and delivery on the 30th. This is gonna be excruciating. Well thats my story, now heres what i ordered.

Lol at the WiiMote joke, xD.
It should arrive earlier, mine said the 15th July but came 2 days early!

I have the infamous "beep"

Did you order online? If so, you'll have to ring Apple and send it back. Then they will send you a new one. If you got it from the Store, take it back and they'll give you a straight replacement.

I ordered the high end uMBP couple days ago, everything went well.

I got my computer three days after I placed the order. It was exciting, until I turned it on, the hard drive was freaking beeping!!

Buttt, that wasn't the worst part. My bank called me telling me that, Apple has charged me for two computers when I only ordered one! I called Apple and all they said was, "call your bank again and make sure that they didn't misread it."

And I did, they said that two computers were ordered at the same time. I checked my receipt, there was only one computer ordered. I'm just frustrated right now.

My MBP 17", 3.06 Ghz, 7200rpm arrived this afternoon.

Ordered on the 4th July, pretty good going, 3 days before estimate.

Only problem is, I'm at work until 9pm - Can't play with my baby for another 6 hours.

really hoping I don't have any problems (stuck/dead pixels, beep freeze, dents & slack bottom casing)

fingers crossed!

Here's a bit of good news.:D I just called the Apple store in Victoria GardensRancho Cucamonga, CA. The lady I talked to said they had the MBP 13" 2.53 in stock. I asked her to hold one for me and she did.:D Maybe that means the gate has been opened. I asked her to double check because I didn't want a wild goose chase and she said the really did have them.

Still not convinced but hey it might just be true.

Aww I just found out that my macbook pro isn't going to be shipping until the end of july. This sucks as I was expecting it to arrive in about a week from the time of ordering just like the imac did. I assume it's just because of the upgrades and increased orders due to the education sale thing. It is going to be very hard to wait that long. :(
