Just purchased a refurbished 2019 13" MBP i5 1.4GHz, 8GB, 256GB HDD to replace my 2017 12" MacBook. Had order a 2020 MacBook Air, but ultimately decided to cancel and order the MBP instead. Looking forward to it getting here so I can put it to use -- primarily with my photo processing in LR and PS.

I have the same. I had ordered the new 2020 Macbook Air but cancelled my order & ordered a refurbished 13" Macbook Pro i7/16gb/1tb ssd. Cost a lot more than the Air was going to cost but I plan to keep it for at least 5 years so that justified it to myself. I've had it for a week now and couldn't be happier with it. I have no problem in typing on the controversial keyboard and the touchbar I find excellent!! I am coming from a 2014 11" Macbook Air (which the trackpad had recently failed on) so any recent laptop would be a huge upgrade. I also enjoy Photography. I use a 5tb external HDD and process in Luminar 4. The fans spin up and it gets a little warm but nothing that is uncomfortable whilst working with it on my lap. I'm sure you will be pleased with your new Macbook Pro when it arrives !!

Between the refurb 17-19 MBP 13" base, are there any major differences? Or all of them are very similar to the 2015 base MBP? Thanks.

Wow, I must admit, buying a refurb Mac, especially a laptop, was never even remotely on my radar, but here I am (16" base i9), and I'm pretty sure I'll never buy a NON-refurb machine again. It arrived in perfect condition, and even had that "new Mac smell" when I opened it up. Really the only thing you miss out on is the prettier box.

My 2016 13" Macbook Pro (4 thunderbolt ports, touchbar, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD) bit the bullet. Won't turn on.

I did not want to get that keyboard again because I did have issues with it, albeit not so bad.

So I went for the 16" base model. I'm a bit nervous that didn't get enough RAM, but I never had any issues with the 2016 13" and could have lasted another 2 years with that model no problem. It was running completely fine.

I'm a database administrator so don't need to do high end tasks. Most of my stuff is done in Parallels (Windows I have to) or in Unix terminals. So I think I'll be fine. Happy that I was able to get 16". Bit nervous about the size as I have always had the smaller size laptops.

I was a little worried about the size. I've had 15" MBP's in the past but this time was moving from an 12" MacBook to the 16". Wow (I first thought) it's HUGE and HEAVY but as I write this it feels so good on my lap. Like it aint going anywhere. Solid on my lap and it's a pleasure to use. You'll soon get used to it. Enjoy.

Well compared to the 12MB the 16MBP is a beast! As I say though you soon get used to it and it is far nicer to type on. I love the 12"Mb and thought that was lovely to type on (it still is) but the 16" MBP is a step up. It's just perfect to type on. The display is beautiful. It is a lot heavier but this just means it's very sturdy on your lap.

This is the first time I've experienced the touch screen at the top and I love it. You can customise it but I haven't done this so far as I don't know what to add to it. The Touch ID is cool too and unlocks your saved website with ease. It works very well.

All in all I'd say this is a computer that will "live" at home with me and I wouldn't get if I was travelling a lot. For that I'll take my 12" MB or iPad. I was going to sell me 12" MB but I still love it so (for now) I plan to keep...Hope this helps.

Can someone here recommend a printer to use at home? Don't need anything fancy, just something reliable and for occasional printing?

First - What model of the 16" did you get? Base Model? And, if so, or if not, how are you liking the performance.

Second, I just bought this one: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/canon-...-inkjet-printer-black/6356231.p?skuId=6356231

I like that one because you can refill the tanks instead of buying the entire cartridge. It is a bit slow, but it works great so far. I've had it almost a month.

I bought myself a refurbished macbook pro 16 inch core i9 radeon 5500m model and have been having a blast with it the past few days. Absolutely gorgeous computer.

Quite the uograde considering my last macbook was a mid 2012 retina macbook 5 inch model that was realy showing it's age. This 16 inch mac is so fast that it rarely chokes. I love the machine.

This is my 3rd mac, my first mac was a 13 inch late 2011 macbook pro that I purchased in 2012, when I purchased it back then I was highly skeptical of apple and considered myself anti apple, but I bought with student grants and figured i'd try it for 14 days.

Been solidly apple now for 8 years, this is my 3rd macbook and easily my favourite.

Just a heads up I think OWC has a bad batch of refurbished 13" Pros.

I ordered one of these and it arrived refusing to charge the battery. I updated the SRAM and PRAM and OS, still nothing. They exchanged it for another one after a quick call and I just recieved the replacement a week later. Guess what, still won't charge. I even tried the same things, plus I tried a different charger. The supplied charger does work, it charges my Pixelbook just fine which is also USB-C.

The battery status says 'replace now' 'not charging'. I would avoid buying this set from OWC. Needless to say they're going to hear from me tomorrow because I am pissed.

I bought this laptop as a refurb and I absolutely love it! Quiet, mostly cool, fast, LOVE the speakers and the display, and no issues for my use cases. Unfortunately, it's overkill (i9/32GB/5500 8GB/1TB) for my needs and oddly too large. I enjoyed my 2013 15" rMBP and have missed it, but I have also gotten used to the 14" ThinkPad I have for work. My Asus 2-in-1 15" is heavy and I never take it anywhere. My iPP 11" has been my personal use travel device, but there are gaps since its primary use is a mix of entertainment, reading, and web browsing.

So I ordered a 2019 13" 1.4 i5/16GB/1TB refurb which came today and I'm pleased with this as well. The butterfly keyboard doesn't bother me. It doesn't seem as bad as the 2018 I tried last year and immediately returned (it was awful!). I prefer the overall smaller form factor to the 16". It's better to carry around from space to space at home and I can see myself traveling with this once we are free to move around again. I'm still evaluating on whether or not to keep it (those dern rumors!), but so far no complaints.

Enjoy!

I'm going to miss my cute little 13"... the new keyboard of the 16" is fine, but I actually prefer the tight feel of the butterfly keyboard.

I prefer the butterfly keyboard as well. I’m more accurate on it. At the same time, I think the size difference of the machines may be a factor. There’s less of a reach and spread when typing. When the scissor keyboard is added in the next update, it will be interesting to compare.

I used the military discount to buy my refurbs as well. It works on everything as far as I can tell.
