What are you going to do with all that power, especially coming from an older air.

Photo & video editing, mainly. A lot of that work was done on an even older 2007 iMac, believe it or not. I just wanted to consolidate my computer needs in one powerful and portable device with a lot of screen real estate.

Ordered the base MBP from BestBuy for $2,299. Nothing special in terms of what some of ya'lls computers are - but a welcome upgrade from the 2011 MB Air we had previously. Huge upgrade for us, and glad I made the purchase. I'm a tech-y kinda guy, so I appreciate the hardware, screen and speakers.

Genuinely enjoy using it every day.

Just opened my MBP 16" i9 base I bought from Amazon last week. It's a refurb but in perfect condition. I've got to say it's been superb so far. Loving the 16x10 display and the keyboard. Ironically I'm a Windows developer who much prefers to develop using a Mac, I'm not the only one.

Best Buy recently lowered the price to $2,199. If you haven’t already, get them to price match and refund the $100+tax difference if you’re still in the return period.

I ordered a custom build (maxed CPU and GPU, 32GB ram) on 4/19....it shipped 4/23 and has been in Osaka Japan since 4/24. Kind of discouraging to see no movement while it just sits there.

Does anyone know what happens in Osaka and why this might be?

Possibly due to backlog because of COVID. I ordered a BTO as well on March 30 got delayed in China for 7 days before it started its journey. Sat in Osaka for a day then to Alaska, Kentucky and finally Canada. Was supposed to be here on April 7/20 didn't receive it till April 14. It will show up, just taking longer than usual. Just be patient as there is a lot going on in the world. Enjoy it when you get it though. Good luck

Although my purchase was not from the refurbished store, it was from a programmer whom was furloughed and her company machines lease was up and they allowed her to keep it outright. I was watching eBay listings and couldn't get a good pricing, my son got the same model locally with half the storage as mine and with an i5 for $888CA

2017 MBP 13" nTB|2.5 GHz Intel Core i7|16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3|Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640 |512GB storage ... all for $1100CA. The bonus ... still under AppleCare+ until 12.1.2020 :D
I love this Mac beyond all others ever made (save for the TiBook G4's) ... keys are very loud like chattering teeth which is driving me nuts. A few scuffs and tiny dings along the edge of the top case on the top edge but really loving this as an upgrade from my 2011 Mac Mini.

Just snagged a 16" 2.4 i9, 32GB RAM, 2TB Storage, 8GB GPU from the Apple Refurb site. This came in at £3239, which is a saving of £560 :O

Can't wait.... find myself using my MacBook more than my 2014 retina iMac.

Replacing my 13" 2014 i5 2.8, 16GB, 1TB, which I'll be putting up for sale. Hoping this 16" lasts 6 years like it's baby brother.

I didn't see it on their website yesterday, it was back to $2,399 (at least for my area) but I did call and was able to get them to price match B&H Photo for $2,199 so I'm happy about that.

Thanks for the heads up, definitely appreciate it. :)

Sooooooo I bought a 2019 13" Macbook Pro base model. It's coming today. Hear me out. Thanks to teleworking, I was in desperate need of a new laptop. My 2012 MBP got destroyed in an accident two weeks ago and I was stuck. I took the plunge and bought the base 13" for a little under $1000 thanks to a gift card and my education discount. I've had good experience with the butterfly keyboard in the past, and honestly I kind of like it. I have 14 days to return the thing if I hate it. Well, what if I don't? The base model is more than powerful enough for what I do: basic video/photo editing, normal everyday computer things. I don't need too much power, but want the ability to do more if I need to. I was doing everything just fine on my 2012 until two weeks ago. Compared to the 2020 cpu's, how will this thing run in 4-5 years? If the keyboard works out for me (let's just assume that it will and that I won't have problems with it for the sake of this message), will I be ok using this for a few years? Storage isn't an issue...I put everything in the cloud or on external SSD's. I should be happy with this right?

I'm posting this knowing full well that the new 2020 model is right around the corner.

I haven’t seen any 16” since last Friday(?) on the U.S. site. I just sent back the refurbished 16” I received on the 17th so at least one will show up in another week, maybe. Jokes aside, hopefully more will show up well before then. Solid beast of a machine, it was.

Just out of interest, why did you return it?

And there are 2 16” MBPs in the refurb store NOW.

At about 1.30am in the UK, there were about 8x 16" ranging from base, to the one I took the other day.

EDIT: There are now 5x still there @ 9.45

After a balls up with the incorrect address and delivery being sent back to Apple, I finally took delivery of my 16 inch MacBook Pro.
Interestingly, whilst I asked a friend who works for Apple to order me the refurb, and use a staff discount, this MacBook has come in regular retail packaging not refurb packaging. My friend said they 100% ordered the refurb so can’t work out if perhaps I’ve been subbed a new one because of the delivery issues.

One word - portability.

The 16" was very appealing because I could future proof it and keep it for at least 5 years, but I've traveled that thinking before both with my 2013 15" rMBP and my 2017 15" Asus 2-in-1. The rMBP became cumbersome to carry during my Master's degree program. The Asus went with me locally, but I never traveled with it on vacation, my iPad taking over that need. The rMBP was sold a couple of years ago with the intent of buying a 2018 13" MBP, but just went badly, After 3 replacements, I just gave up. The Asus has been on desk at home ever since I finished my Masters program and started my current job.

The reviews on the 16" made me want to try it out just to see if I could work with it, but after also having the 2019 13" at the same time, I noticed it was the 13" I was grabbing more often, the one I felt more comfortable using. With a refresh so imminent, I decided to flip the money spent on the 16" to the upcoming 13/14", hoping for once to have power and portability in one machine.

TBH I found myself using my MacBook more than my iMac and felt like I could justify an expensive upgrade to last me 6 years like my 13" did. I'm loving the 16" now it's arrived :)

I bought a refurbished 16" MacBook Pro base model from the Apple store online. (Almost bought it from Amazon, but they have a 15% restocking fee, even on damaged returns! Shame on them.)

The box came last night. My first impressions are very positive. It appears to be brand new, no visible flaws. The keyboard, trackpad and screen are all great. Even the touch bar is surprisingly handy. The speakers give a much better sound than one might expect in a laptop, fills the whole room.

The unit arrived with 10.15.3, asking to be updated. Many people here have reported serious problems after updating to 10.15.4, so I will wait for the next release. Let Apple work the bugs out first.

Many people here have also reported issues with overheating, slow-downs, kernal panics, fan noise, etc. I have experienced none of these. Perhaps they are related to 10.15.4. I think some people are pushing multiple external 4K monitors, on machines with maxed out RAM and SSD. Some common programs (like Chrome, Photos, Quicktime) apparently invoke the AMD dGPU, even without an external monitor. That doesn't help. I read that the left USB-C ports generate more internal heat than the right ports. Several people appeared to have seriously overheated and possible damaged their units by running geekbench5? I will not do so.

It looks like a nice machine, I hope to use it for many years.
