Just ordered the
2019 16" 2.3GHz i9/1TB/Radeon 5500M with 4GB/16GB/1TB model.
This is actually the model I wanted to get, the
2.6GHz 6-Core i7/Radeon 5300M/16GB model, but with the 1TB hard drive. The extra processor speed and higher quality graphics card won't do much for me but I need that bigger HD. But the problem with this model is that it's a BTO option, which makes it harder to get in the refurb store (my usual choice of purchase). And in your case, seems it has a big lead time. Perhaps it's worth it for you to just cancel and buy what I bought?
The refurb store is pretty much out for this option, and assuming you did the edu store price, the cost comes out to $2379. For that price, you can just get the higher end model I ended up getting because it'll be that same price at either the refurb store or from a seller running a promo (
like this ebay one I grabbed).
I would have preferred to get this from the refurb store because even though it's not officially new, it's pretty much new. Also there are some nice perks buying from the refurb store like 2% cash back from rakuten and the ability to have apple make your laptop trade in credit work as a refund. But I was waiting on the refurb store to get more of these in and they just weren't getting it. So I just jumped on the ebay store deal when I Found it.
At least I got original packaging now when it comes time to sell this model.
I think this is a relatively new thing. I've always been a 15" model user since the Powerbook days (although back then I think it may have been 14"?). My current main computer is a 15" mid-2014 MacBook Pro. But I do have a "go" computer which is what I take when I'm out and about which is a 13" 2015 MacBook Pro and that's much easier to handle going in and out of my car, in and out of places throughout the day. But it is more limited which is why I wouldn't keep it as my main. I don't keep any files on it, don't do any back ups on it.
Maybe that's different now 5 years later. I'll find out soon when my new 16" arrives.
