I
I've gone for the 14 with the Pros weight being just too much. 99% of the time I'm holding it reading and that's when the weight gets you.

I do think they have skimped on the regular 14 this year and one "Pro exclusive" feature should have also been on there be it the island, 120hz display, always on display, zoom lens etc. The gap between them is the largest it's ever been and the 14 almost feels like an SE device at this point. Still it's just so much nicer to hold which is the main feature for me.
I agree. Just initiated a return for a 512GB 14 in midnight. I don’t think the gap is as wide as you think. Most of the upgrades for the 14 went into the total internal redesign. Which is totally different than the 13. I can take solace in the reg 14 being better designed and made with better materials. SS steel is cheap compared to 7000 series aerospace grade aluminum. The 7-75 aluminum cost 4 times as much as the SS on the pro models. It’s a much more premium metal. No contest really.

But that’s about it. And the lightness of coarse.

I’m tempted to return my 14 Pro. Coming from the 12 mini, it’s just too heavy. It’s causing my hands to cramp up far too often, at a certain point, it’s just very uncomfortable to use. Lots of cool features. Other than the camera, I’m not really using it for anything my 12 mini couldn’t do.

Still deciding if I want to return it, then trade my 12 mini in for the 13 mini, or just get a refreshed battery in my 12 mini.
If I were you I'd upgrade to the 13 Mini from the 12 Mini; that's what I did last year. It has better cameras and much better battery life than the 12 Mini. Have been very happy with the 13 Mini :).

The 12/13/14 series are basically the same phone in my opinion, just different specs. I think anyone going from a 12>14 or 13>14 are going to be disappointed when the 15 comes out. I have a feeling that's when bigger updates are coming. Eh, but what do I know lol.

Even 11 is the same, 13 pro is at home too, 13 pro camera AI is more aggressive so either very good or screw it up with weired color, other stuff are similar

Not all of us have your phone. I have a 12 and also the iPhone 14 Pro camera bump is pregnant.
I apologize as my comment addressed some of the people who said iPhone 14 Pro was heavier than iPhone 13 Pro. I totally get the difference in bump from 12 to 14.

Of course we have them but there's nowhere as much need or pressure to use them as in the US, because the huge majority of people use something else (WhatsApp, now thankfully Signal is getting more popular).

I for example have switched to iPhone since X (at launch) and have used Facetime twice, ever since, and iMessage basically never as I don't text anymore.
With it being owned by Facebook anything you say on WhatsApp is like something written on a postcard. I don’t care what Zuckerberg says about it being private I don’t believe it. Even though most conversations don’t require privacy, it is nice to know someone’s not snooping in on your conversation.

The problem with messaging apps is they’re not cross platform so whoever you message has to have the same messaging app as you. No one in the USA says to their friend “Do you have WhatsApp?” Well I’m sure someone does but no one I’ve ever heard of. Some people in the USA use Facebook messenger because Facebook is popular but I avoid using the messenger app like the plague. Signal is much better but we’re back to no one having it. Maybe if we can be like China and get something like WeChat. That app is integrated into so many things people do so everyone has it, and they can communicate with it. It’s really good and has lots of features.

I don’t really FaceTime anyone. Not because I dislike it but most people I talk to don’t care for video. It’s one of those things you see the old movies or people are talking to each other on a screen. Even though the technology is here now, no one wants that or most people don’t. We’ve gone to a less personal way of communication by text rather than seeing each other. I rarely call using voice because it requires my full attention. It’s either iMessage or SMS. I can be doing something else, then reply to a message at my convenience.

Most people in my contacts have an iPhone so it’s iMessage. I have a couple of green bubble friends that I’ll text but it’s not the same so usually the text exchange is shorter and less frequent. Some will call when I text because SMS text kind of sucks. That makes things even worse and makes me text them less 😂

The reason why iMessage is so popular in the USA is because so many people have iPhones and even if the person you’re messaging doesn’t have an iPhone the message will default to SMS and still get through. Even if I switch to a different type of phone short of changing my number that message will get to me. If you send me a message through WhatsApp, I’m not going to get it because I don’t have WhatsApp. I have Signal but it’s only because I downloaded it out of curiosity. No one I know has it so it’s not really helpful for me.

I think they’re referring to WhatsApp being overly used in Europe. To be honest iMessage is pretty prevalent in the U.K. as well. I for one do not use WhatsApp since Facebook acquired it. I’ve also managed to convert people on Android to use Signal for cross platform messaging needs instead of WhatsApp but there are some features in WhatsApp that have a very niche usage that I’m not part of personally but so many others are to my astonishment. Like being able to create groups with huge number of people.
The whole Signal (or WhatsApp) thing just won’t catch on for normal people here in the USA. The problem is it requires an additional action that people have to go out of their way to do. Yes it sounds really easy to download an app and sign up for some messenger service but why? People use Facebook messenger because they already have Facebook and messenger kind of works with it.

I can see some of my nerdy and privacy, conscious friends using Signal if I really pushed it but most people I know would just be like why? If you want, you can text me or call me. By text that’s either iMessage or SMS depending on what phone they have. People call it all “text”.

I think in some other countries, SMS messaging was likely so expensive that other alternatives caught on. At first in the USA SMS messaging was expensive but then carriers started giving huge allotments each month for messages. It was in the thousands and back then when you were typing on a T9 keyboard that was a lot. Soon after it just became unlimited so there was no reason.

Even today the only people that have a reason would be people with android phones and I just don’t think people that have android phones care that much. I know Google is pushing this new RCS thing they have but I just don’t see people getting excited about it. I think anyone that really wanted these advanced features has already went to iPhone so maybe this could lure some iPhone owners away, but I just don’t see it.

With the "score" overwhelmingly in the "did not return" category, I'm amazed that most of the user comments are from those that did send them back...
As for me, I upgraded from a 6.1" iPhone 11 to a 14 Pro Max and I am LOVING the phone. The camera is beyond my expectations and the display is gorgeous. I'm apparently also one of the lucky ones that had zero problems activating.

I just now cancelled my order. I was at the Apple Store yesterday and tried the 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. Currently using a 12. They are so heavy and the camera bumps are absurd. The design is just not great at this point. They’ve seriously lost the plot here.

Wish I could swallow Android but I hate Android. So here I sit, with a 12.
This is fascinating... I am wondering what everyone who is returning their phone plans to do in the future....? Switch to Android? So, I went from a regular iPhone 11 to a 14 pro max. I initially didn't buy the X (from my 8 plus) because I didn't like the notch. But then a year later, I realized, the notch is here to stay (for now) and I am not going to buy an Android so I bought the 11. I got used to the notch and didn't mind it at all.

I was excited though, this year, to see the notch transform to something else so I upgraded this year. And now I am thinking that the notch might have been better. The floating pill is definitely more noticeable than the notch but I can live with it and I am sure it will eventually disappear (in my head) as I get more used to it. But I am not going to return the phone because this new design is IT for probably the next 4-5+ years and again, I am not going to switch to an Android so ...? I either accept it, buy an Android, or walk around with my 3-year-old phone for at least 4-5 more years at which time it will be really outdated and eventually won't be supported by Apple. And what if I don't like the next redesign?

Same thing with the weight of the phone. My new pro max is definitely heavier than my regular 11. But it's not a huge difference and I can certainly get used to it and I do love the screen size. It's not like the 15 will be lighter... or the camera bump will be smaller.... so the way I see it, I either decide I want an Apple phone and buy what they offer - realizing there may be a few things I don't like as much - or switch to Android.... yes?

The iPhone 6 and 6+ absolutely sucked. I can tell that you only use your phone for calls, messages and train times because the 1GB of RAM allows for ZERO multitasking. Plus the i6 will be agonisingly slow in 2022.
You’ll get no argument from me there. I could have clarified, this old iPhone 6 is so slow it’s barely usable and it’s still a better designed user experience.

As you see yourself, the messaging app is dictated by the social ecosystem. I'm unhappy about using WhatsApp and thus having to deal with Zuckerberg's awful company - and every time there's the opportunity to use Signal instead I do that - but the situation is that most people (and businesses) in Europe just use WhatsApp and that's that, I cannot force them to switch.

But at least WhatsApp is multiplatform. It works on Android as well, it's got desktop apps for MacOS and Windows, I can live with it. I realize it's not private but I don't transact anything sensitive through any chat app.

If I were equally bound as you are to iMessage or Facetime, it would make my life very hard if I ever wanted to go back to Android. Thankfully I'm not, so I can switch with minimal fuss.

Being too deep in Apple's ecosystem makes one a prisoner, for a lot of money.

Apple Sucks but Android is Worse. No USB C !!! WTF
Pretty much sums it up. I love many of the products Apple makes, but I wish there was another alternative to Apple or Android. The duopoly sucks the most. No excuse for no USB-C-should have been on the first 'Pro' iPhone in 2019.

Do you think the iPhone is better?
iPhone vs Pixel
When you reference a review, read it...

From your link...

"Overall, the iPhone 14 Pro cameras are incredible. I think the Photonic Engine goes a bit overboard sometimes, particularly in the ultrawide shots. But the Night mode outside amazed me, even if it fell flat indoors. The selfies are the best I’ve ever seen from front-facing cameras, smashing what the Pixel 6 Pro could do.

Google has some catching up to do
with the Pixel 7 Pro, as Apple has inched ahead of Google in the battle for the best camera phone."

I have both the iPhone 14 PM and the Z Fold4. IMO both are good for different reasons. Even if you hate Android, there are some very nice features on the Fold4. There are plenty of reviews including side-by-specs of both phones. The form factor is another consideration. When unfolded, the screen is huge, but folded it is narrower (but thicker) and to me more convenient to hold.

I am nearing to return my 14P, unless the dynamic island integration gets significant improvement, updates.
Well you might as well go ahead & return the phone now. The phone has been out less than a week & surely will not be receiving any "significant" updates within your return window.

I went from the 12 Pro Max to the 14 Pro and they only thing that I slightly regret is not going with the Max this time around. Aside from that, I love this phone but I am not sure that I would have upgraded from the 13 Pro Max.

These phones aren't made for people who actually need to carry them around in standard pants. No one in my office uses them (many have the smallest phones possible).

Men cannot fit these phones comfortably in their pants. Women can put them in purses, but I've heard more than a few complain about how uncomfortable they are even to hold! The square edges cut into your hands. It's noticeable, especially because of how heavy they are.

Steve Jobs has definitely left the building. There are evidently lots of bobblehead "yes" people at Apple just picking up paychecks and never saying no to stupid ideas that flow from managers. We've all seen this behavior before.
Solution for us men. I never leave home without one.

My exact feelings here. It's cool if the 14 is not for you. But it seems a lot of people that supposedly bought it did so without doing much research. Then they look for others to validate their buyer's remorse etc.
Bingo. This happens with literally every Apple release. Folks who couldn't bear the thought of showing up to their local Starbucks without the latest Apple device in hand, now desperately seeking co-signs/reassurance from strangers to justify their poor decisions.

A lot of issues (weight, dimensions, pill size) being discussed in here were quite literally public knowledge prior to the phone's release. A simple trip to the Apple store PRIOR to buying the device would've alleviated most of the other things. You could've held the display model for 5 minutes & realized you didn't like the weight, or that the Island extends like 1 or 2mm farther down the screen than the notch did, or that the camera bump is what it is.

At the end of the day, this thread is essentially A.A. for Oniomaniacs, who probably need a lock placed on their credit cards.

UPDATE: so last night I bought the iPhone 14 Pro Max. I went into the Apple Store to pick a few things up and decided to grab one to run it hard for the next week to give it more time: to give it its due and proper. I've been using it since last evening (all evening) and all morning. It's the 1 TB Silver model. I ordered the iPhone 11 Pro Max which I pick up tomorrow, and which I may settle on given that is a better design in my opinion and still a good phone.

So far, my experience with the 14 PM is exactly like my testing, and I don't like it any more than I did. It's basically the modern Gordon Gecko phone. It's heavy has hell, thick and chunky, and the camera bump is annoying as I keep having my fingers and hands slide over it (sharp and big protrusion). I also did start to get some finger fatigue last night holding it up. Wasn't terrible but noticeable.

I decided to pull out my iPhone X, and charged it up and updated it to iOS 16. I notice very little difference in the performance of the phones which is hilarious. Sure, the animations are snappier on the 14 PM, but when I'm using the iPhone X I just don't notice it.

Haven't taken too many pictures or much video but that isn't as important to me. The dynamic island is nice. It's not essential though, and I haven't really paid much attention to it other than the pixelated space above the pill is weird. Battery life is good so far. I walked last night with the flash light on the whole time and used the phone the whole time I was walking (1 hour) and the battery didn't drain much.

Durability: the phone dropped last night off my nightstand as it was resting on the wireless charger puck and it just decided to slide off and fall to the hardwood floor. No damage. This was pretty unbelievable to me, so durability wise, pretty impressive.

See, I have a balanced and objective view. But do I like the phone? No, it's the design that is the real challenge. This thing is a brick and it's pretty absurd. Sure, I could opt for the iPhone Plus and perhaps that's an option I should consider, but given that the iPhone 11 PM is a better design and the iPhone Plus isn't really much of an upgrade from the iPhone 11 PM, the 11 PM might be the phone for me. If anyone is in the same boat, I managed to get an 11 PM from Apple refurbished.
