My parents in there young 70s got theres X today and are going back in morning to exchange to get the 8+. Old man complaining everything is small to read and Face ID doesn’t work good on him. Told him to stretch out his face wrinkles messing up your Face ID detection.

I'm scared to do it... The X ran 11.1 great, but I tried 11 when it was first released and quickly went back to 10.
I’ve been on 11.1 since first day came out runs like new and with new battery getting around 10-11 hours of usage. You won’t be disappointed just do a clean install.

Try this: Set it up in a dark area, and move your head very slowly. Turn as far away from the phone as you can while keeping eye contact with it.

10% drain overnight seems bad. My 6S+ will lose maybe 2-4%
[doublepost=1509966811][/doublepost]

What did you have as a phone before the X?

10% overnight (assume 8hrs standby) Doesn’t sound right. I too usaually average 2 or 3% drain overnight on 7+

I can't believe i'm coming back to this thread more often lately...hearing about the x returns...

this dark side of the force.

iphone 8 plus: ".search your feeling...you know it's the truth.."

me:

Apple employee looks down....

Apple retail manager: "Sir, we got massive return units fromt the customers."

After using it for full 3 days, Im almost positive I will be returning it, and I can see Im not the only one, I have to say Im disappointed and angry, I seen weird stuff from Apple, strange compromise and paying for being early adapter, there were benefits and short comings to all that and vision was some what clear, X doesnt have me upset, it has me angry, I dont see vision, I see something slapped together at last minute. The guts are impressive, but implementation is so poor and implementation is why year after year I bought a new iPhone.

The X feels experemental model, with really no thought given about software or user experience past the hardware aspect. The screen is just a waste, if I had smaller bezel on top and buttom, I would enjoy this phone much more, it needed to be wider just a bit and “ears” are unnecessary this might be a build up to X plus model, but this screen ration and phone size just doesnt work, its useless pixel space, which wastes batery, produces empty inconsistence sceen space, wasted real state and esthetically unpleaset viewing. Its almost looks like Ive design the body and did not turn the screen on 1 time. In 3+ days of use I tought I would get use to it, but I just cant, I want to zoom in pitch zoom videos, move them around etc etc .... keyboard is just tiny compared to plus model and so so so much just wasted space when keyboard is out, it kills the whole viewing, I feel like Im looking at a 5s screen when keyboard is out. With strange screen size, my fingers/hand seems to always get in the way, I cant remember this being and issue on my plus models.

The buttom bar is also very very annoying, its every where when you want it gone, but its never there when you want it, the inconsistency for that little flotter is just too much. Catching it at the right point on lock screen is a pain, I keep brining up notifications instead of unlock.

The top notch is still in my view and pulling up notifications is a chore now, you never know if you got controll center or notifications.

I know this is a crazy thing to complain about, but battery % ? Really ? I think I waste more battery and just really waste time, pulling down to get my %. This has been #1 annoyance.

Face ID works, and to be honest, If I had to give up touch ID for face ID, I probably would, very close in usability, but both would be preferred.

Apple pay and the power button, why oh why do we have to press it and then do something else to purchase, in app store why ?

I can get used to gestures, but some are just crazy, like force closing an app is a chore now.

I do understand apps need to be updated and optimized, the once that are already, dont look good, even stock apps(messages) look awkward and completely out of place.

A lot of this gestures and features could of been incorporated in to 8 or 8 plus model(more for plus models) and I think it would be much enjoyable to use.

Maybe Apple will pull out of this and X plus or which ever next model it would be will be amazing! But after last 3 years of really nothing that exited me at all (whole product line) Im getting angry, really missing Jobs right now, some one needs to be voice of reason at apple.

Also intresting launch, first time I see much lower demand and shipping times improving rather then getting worse. Maybe Cook finally figured out supply chain.

Sorry for long post and Im sure I will get negative responses, but this is how I feel now and I will give it one more week, but Im pretty sure its going back.

I agree on a lot of points, although I really do think this phone was made more for people that would be going from a reg size iPhone to an X.

I’m gonna get some flaming also here because all of a sudden the scores of people that had been using a regular iPhone like to chime in and say all the plus features are insignificant...Really?

Jeeez I didn’t realize the entire world had small hands, and I must have certainly missed the boat when the plus models were insanely hard to get at launch and even a month or two afterwards, ya know because they just weren’t popular.

IMO Apple screwed this up because they tried to make one phone that would appeal to the entire masses, sorry no can do after we’ve been spoiled with the plus and all that it offers.

I think the X is probably one of apples greatest phones ever, the idea of it is amazing, and I do think this phone will appeal to so many people.

However I’m not so many people, I’m a person who seriously loved my phone, I loved my 6plus & my 7plus, they were my favorite phones ever, that’s including being a casual android user and owning S line , notes, nexus, and HTC phones over the years as well.

The 8 should have been scraped all together and an X and X plus should have been released, I don’t care if it would have taken till Xmas to launch it, this to me is like you said just not a uniformed launch and feels some what rushed in certain aspects.

Will I keep the X, I think so, I will prob exchange my silver X for a Space Gray one and just put a black or red
Apple leather case on it and just try and enjoy the technology the X brings for the time being and than just switch up the plus next year, there is no way a bigger varient does not release next year for 2018, people saying it won’t happen are just the ones who bashed the plus the entire time since it was released.

I gave mine back on Monday.

For me it wasn’t worth it. The screen is much more narrow than my 7 Plus, this is noticeable when you type, when you read things, when you look at pictures... it’s noticeable on every task. Then there is the really bad use of real estate... what is the point of having an all screen phone which doesn’t use all its real estate: that grey slob at the bottom of the keyboard, those huge white spaces when selecting pictures to share, bad use of screen real estate at the top of the screen too, really bad use of screen real estate on the camera app, etc. There many other reasons I found over the course of 3 days.

I felt a huge disappointment over me after holding the phone for the first 5 min... I’ve never felt this after buying an iPhone. It just felt like a downgrade (even through it isn’t). For me it wasn’t worth paying 1320 euros.

I decided to wait for a plus sized X.

It’s post like these that really make me think that most of the people in this thread are either trolling or spent money that they shouldn’t have in the first place, but yet are blaming the iPhone X. Looking for “shortcomings”

Saying “I’m returning my X, because it’s too small in my hands” makes perfect sense

Saying “I’m returning my X because it’s not worth $1000” makes no sense

There is not a single phone on the market that’s worth it’s asking price, first of all.

Secondly, it’s been stated by countless articles, reviews & tech enthusiast that the IPhone X has one of the best OLED screens available on a phone to date...so saying it doesn’t look as good as android devices is purely subjective.

Finally, you do realize that the iPhone X will be the standard going forward right?

Touch ID is gone.
The LCD screens from your 7+ are gone.

People were taken in by the hype. Could not wait to be the first. Some can’t afford it some can. Some will realize it’s just a phone like many others. Some will think it’s worth a grand, some like myself think paying a grand for a phone is ridiculous and choose not to buy it. Plain and simple.

But I’d still like to know where you get your inside info to know Touch ID is dead? Who is your source for this information? Is that sort of like the huge bezel nonsense fanboys are throwing around?

So I was going to keep my X as a second phone for when I want something smaller, but the more I use it the more I get pulled away from it. The screen is just too narrow for me, and the Face ID as I've said, doesn't work, for me.

Return has been arranged although im abroad at the moment, it's being picked up on Monday and I'll order the 8+ for when I return. Incidentally does anyone know if it's possible to select a delivery day for an item from apple? I can only get an option for next day which is no good while im away.

Mine won’t be here until Monday and I’m already considering returning it. I keep thinking about how I rarely actually pick my phone up and if I want to unlock it I just stick my finger on Touch ID and it unlocks. The lack of Touch ID will mean I will have to completely change the way I use my phone. Maybe that isn’t a huge deal, and maybe eventually they will phase out Touch ID and I’ll have to get used to it, but if I’m paying over $1000 for a phone I want to enjoy it as much as possible so for now I see no reason to make myself adjust when I have other options.

Mine was sent back on Tuesday. Looks great at all, but only looks. It will scratch even if you will be only looking on it. Materials used to bulid X is quite poor. $1000 device can't look like s**t after few weeks. And yeah... screen protecotor, case, blabla... not for that price.

How would you compare the Note 8 to the X? I'm thinking about possibly picking up the Note.

Liking the X more and more everyday but it's nothing earth shattering. If I only had to have one phone for work and play it would definitely be the Note. I literally work with 100+ emails a day and mobile documents (excel, PDF, word) and you can't beat the Note's display real estate and multitask functionality.

I received mine yesterday. It’s nice to use. Coming from a 7 plus, I like the way it feels in my hand and don’t mind the narrow screen. I’m going to give it a few days before I make a decision.

Can you explain multitask? The guy at the Verizon store told me the note 8 doesn’t do that. I had read online before that it does.

Fact that you are sticking with the X rather than going back to a plus says it all and further validates that your statement that Apple screwed up by not releasing the X plus this year is nonsense. Apple is genius in that it got plus owners to either upgrade to the 8 plus or go with the X this year, and then a year from now will have them upgrading again for the X Plus. Think about it, Genius really

Nah, I feel like most people upgrade yearly. That’s why the iPhone upgrade program is such a hit even though you’re literally throwing money down the drain. I do it so that I can upgrade every year. I could be way off, but based on what I’ve seen from people I know and those that I’ve stood in line with waiting for new iPhones... there are two types of people: 1. Those who use the upgrade program and upgrade yearly. 2. Those with enough money to just pay retail for whatever phone they want (and they usually buy new phones at every release, or in this instance they buy both the 8 plus AND iPhone X). I think Apple would have sold just as many phones no matter how they handled this release. It doesn’t really matter what Apple does, until they screw up big time their products will sell, and they will likely sell out on launch day.

Genius how?

I'm on the iPhone upgrade program!
As are so many people, or they are on the next plan, or this plan or that plan that allows customers to upgrade a year from now. No next year I will very easily be able to get an iPhone Xs plus or whatever it will be called.

The reason they did this is because this was in fact a 10th anniversary phone, and they most likely faced screen shortages. Either way no matter what the excuse is, the X is what's the best of apple right now.

For me, an iPhone 7plus user to go to an iPhone 8plus when the X is the phone with the newest features would just make no sense for me. A few days with the X had me looking at the home button and bezels on previous models like ewwww...lol

I'm an early adapter and have actually began to fully enjoy the X for what it brings to the table and i will enjoy it for the next year as I did exactly what I knew I would do. I exchanged my silver X for the Space Gray X and honestly am digging the phone. Is it a tiny bit small for me? Yes! Would I have liked a plus phone in X form? Absolutely!!!

But that's not happening for another year so I will rock the X and enjoy apples latest and greatest!

I believe he's talking about the fact that you can run two apps on the screen at the same time on the Note 8. You can't do that on an iPhone. So no idea what the Verizon guy was talking about.

Correct. You can snap two apps together. One on top and bottom. Great for copy/paste between apps.

Yes, that is what he is referring to and I finally found a YouTube video of someone doing it but the Verizon guy who was a self-proclaimed Samsung guy and owned both the galaxy s8 (? I’m not sure I know Samsung names) and note 8 swore that no phone on the market does that.

The Note multitasks. People think that the iPhone multitasks but it isn’t true multitasking. True multitasking is split screen multitasking where you can do 2 apps at the same time.

The X is a fantastic device but it’s a little too ‘beautiful’ for me if that makes sense. For me not manly enough looking like my stealth looking iPhone 7 in it’s black Magpul case. Or when I rock it naked. Don’t get me wrong it’s a beautiful sexy phone but a little too metrosexual for my tastes.

Magpul is where it’s at. ✅
