Is that an off-axis blue tinge I see on your OLED TV screen? :D:D:D

After playing a few hours with my iPhone X, I also want to write my experience here. In the past I had iPhones with yellow displays etc. which I returned. The iPhone X though has a very nice screen, maybe a bit warmer than other phones but definitely no yellow tint. If I change the color settings I can even have a very nice cold color temperature (this didn‘t work equally well with my iPhone 7 Plus). The viewing angle IMO is also no issue. The color shift is just very minor and absolutely equal as on the Galaxy S8+. The edges of the phone are not round but saying they are sharp edges would be also to much. They are not uncomfortable at any time. I do own the Space Grey version.

Ok the reason the screen has a colour shift is due to how OLED display are currently mass produced.

Using an WOLED design ( white, red, blue and green pixels ) this is the reason for the above.

The last RGB OLED device was the OS vita gen 1.

Problem with true RGB OLED is decaying blue pixel so using a white substrate pixel it helps this issue but leaves a blueish tint when turned.

OLED has superior viewing angles to LCD and of course perfect blacks destroy LCD grey.

A good test is to play the opening credits of Glow on Netflix side by side on a X and 8 in the dark and tell me which one is better.

The funny part is that the new Google Pixel 2XL got destroyed in a lot of reviews because of the blue shift. The iPhone X is GREAT, yet both have the blue color shift. Go figure...

I am also on the verge of returning my iphone X also. I love the display, Face ID is just badass and perfect, size is great and everything is just really great about it.....except for the UI. I do a lot of work on my phone for my job and I am finding issues with closing apps and switching between apps to be quite a pain for me. It doesn't feel natural with some of the new features in recent iOS. Normally with a UI update, it makes sense and you can get get use to it fairly fast and feel comfortable with it. I am not feeling that with the X UI.

I am going to try it out for the rest of the weekend and hopefully get use to the new UI. If not, I will probably just stick with my 7plus or get the 8plus.

From the Arstechnica review: "Color shifting and viewing angles can also be a problem with OLEDs. In this case, Apple has definitely not broken new ground. When the display is tilted in a direction such that you begin viewing it at an angle rather than directly, it shifts very starkly to a cool blue. The iPhone 8 display shifts, too; however, the iPhone X shifts more dramatically and more quickly. I also found the shifting to be much more pronounced than it is on the Samsung Galaxy S8+."

OK, so it's not only me. Good. For some this may be a non-issue, but for me it felt really cheap.

I have the LG OLED 55" non curved screen. It is gorgeous and continues to amaze me. You'll love it!

Agreed, I have the same. I am amazed every single day by this screen. Awesome TV and my best electronics-related purchase in years.

Sorry for the off-topic.

I am registered since 2010 and a daily reader of MR. And a big Apple fan (I have returned every single Android phone I ever tested) and contribute to Apple with a 6-figure revenue as an app developer. Go figure...

I'm returning mine today. The X needs 4GB of memory if its doing 458 PPI. I can tell this has 6-like sluggishness, when that phone was initially released. I'll wait until the next phone has 4GB.

Yes, we all sit in our pitch-black dark rooms, watching movies on our iPhone's and drooling over the black levels... I mean come on!

Right. But the Pixel 2XL color shift is far, far worse.

I keep saying it needed 4 gb but people on here say “you dont need that much or 3 is fine” Apple sheep lol. Next year I’m betting 4 gb of ram and pro motion screen is coming

I thought it was just me. I have owned every iPhone since the 3GS and this just doesn't seem very intuitive.

I will also give it a tryout, but I already have the 8 Plus, so the question is: is it worth another payment? That is what I will have to decide.

The 8 Plus was going to be a Christmas present, but the wife wants a 6 and I don't know if I trust my 16 year old with an 8 Plus for her first phone.

Yea I’m on the fence with keeping it too. When I unboxed it, my heart sank seeing how much smaller it is to my plus. I knew it was smaller, but it’s different once you see it in person. To me, it feels like a 4.7” iPhone again. I’m just not wowed by it like I thought I would be. I am also having a hard time getting used to the screen with its off color angles and I’ve noticed it’s got annoying motion blur when scrolling through Facebook and webpages. I never noticed this on my plus. I’m leaning toward returning it and sticking with my plus for another year and seeing what they come out with next year. It’s tough to spend over $1000 on a phone I’m not 100% happy with. I’ll give it the rest of the weekend and make my decision on Monday.

I'm leaning towards returning mine sometime.next week. I've been spoiled by the Galaxy S8's width and weight, which makes it easy to use one-handed (even with a case on). The X is wider and with a case.makes it really difficult for me to comfortably use. For the price point I'm finding it hard to justify this purchase-- especially when I got.the iPhone 7 for nearly half the price. Performance on.the 7 is still amazing.

I'll hold on for a few more days before making my final decision. Again, these are only my opinions so I'm happy for anyone who truly enjoys the X.

I feel the same. What makes it harder for me to justify is that I have both the 8 Plus and the X on IUP ($45+$56/month). If I LOVED the X, this wouldn't even be a question, but I don't. Not even sure I can make it through the weekend. I miss my Plus already.

What really sucks is that I waited in line at the Apple Store yesterday for over 4 hours to get it. They were showing off the X and it just didn't click how small it really is. I guess I just got caught up in the hype.

The iPhone 6, 7, 8 Plus and X all render images at the same resolution and then downsample.

The myth of more DPI and more RAM was dispelled a while ago. If you feel it’s slow, it’s the processor.

If you don't love it when you first open it then it isn't going to get better with time. My experience with the Note 8 has been the most fun I've had with a smartphone in years. I confess that part of it was just pure boredom with iOS. I spite of Tim Cooks BS about the Xs "value", at the end of the day the X is a $1000+ 8 with FaceID vs TouchID, and a bigger OMLED display. Both of those new things are pros/cons.

My X is going back. I really love the all of the new hardware features but I just can't get past the narrower display coming from the 7 Plus. Playing games and watching videos are really impacted which are two of my most used features. Here's to hoping for an X Plus next year. Perhaps I'll check out an 8 Plus when some good sales come along.

I was going to give the 8 Plus to my wife or my daughter, but I'm thinking of keeping the 8 Plus for myself and use a buy one get one 7 or 8 for my wife and daughter.

These comments are really killing my mood to pick mine up today....perhaps rightly so.

I get it that some models don’t live up to their expectations due to various reasons. I know i will try it out, but as someone mentioned in earlier post, if you are unhappy with unboxing part...it might not get better.....

Truthfully x or 8 plus is fine but i need a phone to replace my dying 6 plus...maybe i can go on with 6 plus which has 1 gb ram....

Who knows...maybe i will like it or not.
