The 5.8" display is bigger than the 5.5" Plus display, just it has a smaller ergonomic footprint with less bezels.

The X often functions with similar screen size to a 4.7” iPhone. It is goofy being so tall and thin. The Plus give you 5.5” of useable space at all times with no notch in the way blocking content. The wider screen also makes it easier to type in portrait. In everyday use the Plus is still the champ of screen space.

A 5.5" display doesn't really offer much in terms of usability either since that is an Apple problem as well.

That video is pretty much useless because he moves so fast from straight to an abrupt angle. If anyone else does a video, move very slowly through the angles so you can get a feel for how much angle starts to show the color shift.
It's not useless. It shows that it happens. Doesn't really matter how fast or slow you tilt it, it's there

This is why I never purchase a 1st gen (beta) iPhone. In addition to that, I can't justify the price for the minute upgrade. The screen is OLED. So what? It's been around for years on other platforms. Face ID with truedepth sensors is the only new tech in the industry but I just can't justify Such a hike in price. I hope you all enjoy your new X.

This is what happens when only apple biased reviewers are allowed to review the phone prior to launch. Now the phone is launched, 'proper' reviewers are reviewing the phone and they are pointing out minor flaws in the phone that actual disappointed owners of the phone are mentioning here in this forum.

The iphoneX is not just a phone, it's the most expensive phone on the market and that pricing demands perfection. If i buy a brand new Ferrari and notice the seats show a different colour in the sunlight, a feature that should not happen but yet was not mentioned in any review, am i going to accept it, hell no so i do not see why owners of the new iphoneX should be expected to accept minor flaws they see in the phone.

If you like those flaws, great but don't try to shame others if they do not like those flaws and report about them in the forum. Flaws which should have been reviewed properly prior to launch but were not.

Well, it won't be as bad of a price hike considering the 8 to 8+ is what $100?
I never thought an iPhone with essentially the same specs as an iPhone would cost $1000. Things are a-changin. Plus, if it's OLED, it might be a bit more expensive. Case in point: Pixel 2XL is $150 more expensive than Pixel 2

I believe all OMLED displays do this but the question is at what angle. Some on MR are saying with a slight angle. You can't tell from this video if it shifts at a slight angle or not. When he turns it nearly sideways, I don't see that as a big deal.

I just hope Apple doesn't make the phone $1500 or something absurd because $1000 is plenty absurd as it is.

Be careful with the emperor has no clothes talk around here. I’m with you on screen tech. Apple’s LCD are better. But you’ll garner little support if the disease of fanboyism has replaced objectivity.
I have an 8 Plus and love it. I noticed the screen issues using the X in the Apple store yesterday. Made me glad I bought the 8 Plus. I’m in the return window with another device too so I could easily order an X but I’ll wait until next year when they are better.

Is that really a deal breaker tho?

The quality of the OLED display outweighs tint to me by far

But people should’ve braced themselves too. Androids have done this for years.

Some people thought apple would work magic to eliminate it. I knew it wouldn’t be.

I personally don’t care
I like knowing my phone HAS an OLED hehe the novelty

Having spent a full day with the X (at Disneyland mind you), it’s going back. It’s just not as easy to use as my 7+. I feel like I’m constantly swiping my fingers with the X. It feels like giving your fingers a workout just navigating the screen. Maybe I’m used to the Touch ID, but the first gen X is not for me.

The OLED screen is just not that much better than the 7+ screen. I can’t tell which is better, in fact. Tells you how good the older phone screens are. I’m not factoring the difference in display tilt angles. I think the old screen looks better at an angle than the X.

Face ID, while cool initially, makes too many comprises usability-wise. I think I would keep the X Apple kept the Touch ID with the Face ID as a transition.

I think the wireless charging feature is the one I’ll miss going back to the 7+.

At the end of the day the biggest wow factor for me really is the price tag. And this is where I think Apple got it wrong. I think many of us on the fence would keep the X had the price not been as high. I think Apple just missed the value proposition with the X. It’s just too expensive for what the X is offers. I’m still thinking...my goodness, I just spent almost $1300 for a phone. Even that is before all the accessories I’ll have to buy for the change in form factor from the 7+.

I have used Apple phones since the iPhone 3. I upgraded to every new generation. I’m sorry Apple, I’ll have to skip this one.

At least you tried it! And now you know!

Can’t fault ya for that. Vs writing it off without actually trying it

So I toyed around with the X a bit more today (4 hours), doing what I usually do with my phone (messaging, email, browsing, workout tracking and some gaming) and it just doesn't work for me. My thumb is too short, using the phone one-handed is very uncomfortable. And those edges (silver unit) make it feel somewhat imperfect in terms of build quality, this feeling did not go away today. Same applies to color shifting of the display and the app switching / closing (which I assume will be fixed with an iOS update soon). Some positives: Face ID works great (I was surprised by that), the glass back feels & looks awesome and I got used to the missing home button pretty quickly. Still, I will be returning my X tomorrow.

That's the way it should be. You should only keep it if it 'works' for you. It's like when you buy a new pair of shoes or jacket or jeans or a new couch, when you use them, you know if it's 'right' for you. The couch is a perfect example, you sit in it, try to get comfortable but it just not working for you, you don't get that 'ahhhh, perfect' feeling, so you try other couch's until you hit the sweet spot and know you can be comfortable and content in the one you are sitting in.

The phone has to be the same, especially for the price. A cheaper $20 phone, yeah i may put up with minor hassles but the iphoneX, no way, if it does not 'fit' right then it goes back.

This is where I’m am at.
Slight temptation with the X but VERY happy with 8+. 8+ is a sleeper bad@$$ phone IMO. Camera is crazy good. Great screen. Ridiculously fast.

FWIW.. some quick photos in an Apple Store between my 8+ & X and my 8+ images looked better.

To cover all of your concerns, you could return the X and trade in your 7+ to Apple and buy the 8+. You would still have most of the X upgrades and keep wireless charging, A11 chip, LCD, Touch ID and keep your 7+ accessories. Your trade in would bring the price down by $375 for the trade up value from the 7+ to put towards the price of the 8+

I don't get this line of thought.

I see articles/reviews that have people praising the OLED screen, stating its the best yet, then there are folks saying the polar opposite.

Tbh, I don't have my thumb on the display panel pulse, and I really don't know why a company would pick LCD vs. OLED, but to my uneducated eyes, I'm happy with OLED. I will say the burn in issue is the only major downside I know of OLED and hopefully Apple has taken some lessons from Samsung and/or Google in mitigating that issue.

Having gone from 6+/7+/now X (256) Silver. I am loving the downsize in terms of form factor. The iPhone 8 was on my list as well as the S8 due to the narrowness.

I still dislike the notch, but it’s something I can live with. Watching my volume toggle down in Instagram across it was hilarious.

Turned Face ID off, so just passcode for me. That’s been on all my devices so no change there. If folks are complaining about the OLED situation, I wonder what type of TVs they have. Guessing LCD as well, but even those that angle issues.

Biggest hurdle has been the gestures and learning them, but I like a challenge so no complaints there.

It’s a device a lot of folks should “try” before buying for sure. Now if only Razer made a smaller device, I be all over that in a heartbeat.

Biggest con is my favorite emoji not being an animoji can’t get enough of that one

I would say if you have to “talk” yourself into keeping this device, you’re already on the wrong path to begin with.

I noticed the tint difference almost straight away when angling it slightly away from direct facing me. But, it’s not a dealbreaker for me. There’s a possibility I notice it more than others due to colour blindness?

The emoji button is also slightly out of reach for my thumb (I’m right-handed). Again, not a dealbreaker.
Everything else far over-rides those two points.
