I really love the new hardware but I cant get over the screen size. Gonna stay with my 7 plus or move to the 8 plus until next year when apply hopefully releases a larger version.

I think this the smaller size is throwing some iPhone owners off, from what they were used too prior. It's obviously more narrow, but some feel it's more cramped compared to what they were expecting. There is no doubt a 6.4 iPhone will be here in 2018.

I guess I still have some adjusting to do. My normal driving routines got screwed.

I’ll give the phone a week.

I don’t get how the phone having a blue tint when it’s tilted bothers people. I don’t use my phone tilted. And the OP mentioned the phone has sharp edges where the glass and the band meet.....he/she had better be a designer with meticulous expectations. Because other wise that’s just being obsessive for no reason.

These comments are really killing my mood to pick mine up today....perhaps rightly so.

I get it that some models don’t live up to their expectations due to various reasons. I know i will try it out, but as someone mentioned in earlier post, if you are unhappy with unboxing part...it might not get better.....

Truthfully x or 8 plus is fine but i need a phone to replace my dying 6 plus...maybe i can go on with 6 plus which has 1 gb ram....

Who knows...maybe i will like it or not.

Don’t let it kill your mood.

Everyone’s experience is different. Some people say the notch isn’t noticeable, it definitely is, especially with the developers not doing the update to “embrace the notch”.

As for the yellow screen it’s the True Tone, no blue shows up for me (except when I read about it when folks tilt it, I literally had to tilt it unreasonably aka something I wouldn’t normally do otherwise) to replicate that. I’m not sure where purple comes from.

Basically, it’s not what we’re used to with iPhones of the past because they were always just updated a “little” (despite what apple markets). This is a bigger overhaul and we don’t have an anal detail oriented person at the helm.

Totally feeling your comment. I’m going there and buy like a consumer. Thanks.

I replaced my 6+ with an X. It's amazing; huge upgrade.

Will probably attempt to exchange mine as the color shift with only slight movement is very noticeable. My True Tone is off and I'm not a novice. Work in the industry, had the S6, S7, S8 Plus, and now Note 8 for my work phone and always iPhone for personal.

Came from 7 Plus and love everything about this phone except the panel quality on my device. Form factor reduction was a godsend for me especially since I already carry another giant device.

After reading this some may change there minds, be happy with that older generation AMOLED display :D

Display

For many years, Apple fans have claimed that the AMOLED screens from Samsung are extremely bad, they have the wrong colors (about the color rendition and what it is, as a rule, they did not know), too high brightness (that was a shame, when the advantage was recorded in the minus), and still there is Pentile in them. Since mid-2016, I was aware that Apple plans to purchase AMOLED-screens Samsung, and it was interesting how the tone of the statements will change. It has changed to the diametrically opposite: now the screen of the iPhone X is the standard and the future, which suddenly happened.

My first greetings are sent to members of the sect of Pentile witnesses who can see with the naked eye those same subpixels (when the dot on the screen consists of separate points and they can see them without a microscope, which is impossible even theoretically, but they know how to do it). The iPhone X uses the structure of the Diamond Pixel screen, it fully corresponds to what is used in screens from Samsung, for example, in the same Note 8.

At a resolution of 2436x1125 pixels, it's not just impossible to see any sub-pixels, it's from the realm of fantasy. Unfortunately, Apple could not buy from Samsung screens of recent generations, since their cost was prohibitively high, Samsung left such a matrix for their devices. As a result, Apple was content with generation 5, that is, the level of the Galaxy S6 matrix (for comparison, in Note 8 there is a screen of generation 8, and in S9 in half a year it will be the 9th generation). For the average person, all these generations look like a sort of gibberish, which does not say anything. But let's try to understand the details and the things that Apple saved for the screen of the iPhone X, because they did not want to overpay for the latest developments.

What a load of bs...
Apple didnt skimp on the screen, they did not buy an old generation display.

Next.

It looks good from a straight angle, but tilting it a few degrees and it turns blueish. I doubt that this is a defective unit, otherwise it would exhibit bad behavior from a straight angle as well, I suppose.
Be careful with the emperor has no clothes talk around here. I’m with you on screen tech. Apple’s LCD are better. But you’ll garner little support if the disease of fanboyism has replaced objectivity.
I have an 8 Plus and love it. I noticed the screen issues using the X in the Apple store yesterday. Made me glad I bought the 8 Plus. I’m in the return window with another device too so I could easily order an X but I’ll wait until next year when they are better.

I actually skipped the 7 last year because I knew the X was coming. Special anniversary marketing terms got me hooked.

I still haven't completely closed the door on the X. I can pick it up today but I'm more blasé about it. Or more blah-zay. I guess it's like those people who finished watching The Phanton Menace and The Force Awakens and thinking that's it? We waited that long for that?

I'm actually glad I got my email today because I would rather take my chances trying to a win horse race before getting a $1000 phone. If I win it, then yeah. I could cancel the BB one and just sign up directly from a Verizon store but I want space gray. If I lose the bet, forget it. All depends on a horse race today...

I don't really want to do the 14-day trial thing. I just keep going back and forth with Verizon and don't want to deal with that nonsense anymore.

Yea I saw the SG in person today and liked it. This is coming from someone who didn't want another dark phone. Actually this took place was while I was there returning my Silver X. I like the Silver but not sold on it holding up long term with the shiny stainless...the ones in the store were marked up pretty bad already granted I am sure there were some people there purposely trying to make marks.

I am also on the verge of returning my iphone X also. I love the display, Face ID is just badass and perfect, size is great and everything is just really great about it.....except for the UI. I do a lot of work on my phone for my job and I am finding issues with closing apps and switching between apps to be quite a pain for me. It doesn't feel natural with some of the new features in recent iOS. Normally with a UI update, it makes sense and you can get get use to it fairly fast and feel comfortable with it. I am not feeling that with the X UI.

I am going to try it out for the rest of the weekend and hopefully get use to the new UI. If not, I will probably just stick with my 7plus or get the 8plus.

Feeling the same way for the most part. Love the screen. Hate the ridiculously slow and awkward switching/closing gestures. Was hoping there was some magic force touch shortcut or something I wasn't aware of, but this actually seems to be the way Apple designed it - ridiculous. I feel like pulling up the switcher will get easier with muscle memory but the holding to get to the close UI is absurd, and the whole thing requires a lot more visual attentiveness than the home button based method did.

That is the biggest issue as it's significantly slowing me down. More minor nuisance is faceid in the car or when using the phone flat on my desk which is a common occurrence. Hate to give up the beautiful screen but the UI is really a productivity killer, so it may go back in favor of an 8 or 8+.

Thanks! The bottom bar swiping is very helpful. And I agree with you, as I mentioned the inverted L swipe will become second nature with some muscle memory development. Do you have a trick to avoid the painfully slow process for closing apps?

Car is a similar issue to the desk - the phone is typically not in a location/at an angle conducive to faceid. With touchid I could simply reach over wherever it was and unlock it without having to take my eyes off the road at all. Now I either have to turn my head, lift the phone, or both.

I wish! I'm hoping they come up with something better. It's worth noting that you can swipe apps off the screen rather than hit the "close" button but you still have to hold down for the button to appear.

Ah I see. I wish I had a solution. You can try turning off the "attention required" (or whatever) setting but you'll still have to swipe up to unlock. Hopefully in the future they'll allow FaceID to go to the home screen. Fortunately my car has CarPlay so I just forget about my phone once it's plugged in.

Me too - ultimately it's the press/hold/wait that is the problem.

Our leases are up in a few months and the replacements will have carplay so that should be less of an issue long term.

3 yrs on a 6 Plus, played with my new X last night and it is going back. I’ll put up with another year of the surfboard, I just can’t give up the screen real estate and battery life. I also missed the iPad like features that the Plus offers in email, safari, etc

Got a good deal on a barely used 8 Plus to tide me over until the X Plus arrives.

The 5.8" display is bigger than the 5.5" Plus display, just it has a smaller ergonomic footprint with less bezels. Apple doesn't really take much advantage of bigger screen sizes. It is one of the things I will give up when I go to a 2017 iPhone soon.
