It would certainly make sense - just look at the changes to the iOS 4; The 'Dock' now resembles a Mac Dock, which would allow for easier switching between OSX/iOS4... You can customise and change your wallpaper

The only thing that wouldn't make sense is that the iPhone/Pod/Pad has motion control for many Apps. I highly doubt people are going to lift up their iMac and start jiggling it about!!

This would be utter rubbish.

Just wondering why there is such expectation for an imminent update. The Last update (major) was in October - only nine months ago.

I am looking to either get a mac mini and a monitor for the kitchen or a 21in iMac. Not sure the imminent update is expected in the new few weeks or on schedule in October.

I'm sure Apple is trying to figure out a way to get the App Store onto the Desktop or Laptop to try to generate more cash. One way or the other they want to sell Apps if they can I would think. Not sure if it will be with a touch interface but you never know.

Well the last two refreshes were within six months. I don't think a refresh on the aluminum imacs have ever lasted a year.

Well, my 27" i7 arrived yesterday!
No screen issues at all! Pretty happy so far, just need more memory! Well... Maybe not, "need" but want. Brands don't really matter, right?

Not sure how I'd feel if Aple really did release a touch screen iMac, but I'm happy I didn't wait.

OK thanks for the clarification.

The only thing I am now hoping for is VESA compatibility on the smaller iMac that is refreshed...

Hi guys,

New user here and I've been following this thread for a while. I'm ready to buy a 27" iMac but can wait a little. I'm giving this thread a little bump as a few people I know have said that the supply of iMacs in a few stores around them is really low. One store said all of their iMac stock is completely unavailable.

Tom.

Very interesting. They are still showing that the iMacs are shipping in 24 hours online. My money is on one of the remaining Macs being updated on Tuesday the 13th as the MacBook Air, Mac Pro and iMac are all past their average refresh date.

Apple has updated a Mac line on the Tuesday that falls toward the middle of the month for the past three months...so Tuesday the 13th falls in line with their previous three months pattern.

I too am waiting to purchase a 27" iMac. I realize this will be a mild refresh with most likely just a bump in the GPU and maybe the latest intel processors...but I have waited this long - so what is a little bit longer?

Anyone else out there seeing inventory drops out in the stores of the iMac?

I have just checked 3 websites of major stores here in spain all showing low stock on all models of iMac's. All are saying 10-15 days for delivery or have removed some models completely from their sites. I feel the refresh coming soon, not sure how soon, but it's starting to get real!

ONLY?

ONLY????

9 Months is like 5 years in computer years. Every other company refreshes their retail lineup every 3 months (at least, sometimes even more).

Computers aren't like cars, where you can get last year's model and it will still get the same gas mileage as this years model. Keeping in mind that stuff that goes into iMacs is usually already pretty dated and certainly not cutting edge when the iMacs are first released, imagine buying a year old one. That makes a pretty big difference for quite a few applications.

I think the worst part of it is that as component prices fall, companies like Dell pass those savings onto consumers. So a computer that debuts at $599 gets cut to $499 and $459, etc. until the next model. Where as with Macs, it stays full price all the way until the new one comes out.

If Apple adjusted their price and cut $200 to $300 off their current lineup to reflect the decreasing cost of components, I'd probably get one in a heartbeat. But instead, the choice is either buy an outdated computer (im not saying its a bad computer, just outdated) at full price or wait until the hardware gets updated. And that choice hurts.

With that said, I am waiting and hopefully I will be ready to bite as soon as the update happens.

I was on the phone with Magnum Mac today and they said that the new imac would not come out for a while. I asked them why and they said they get a notice of when the imac will come out (they havn't got it yet). He also said that apple have alot of things on there schedule like a new ipod touch, ironing out the ipad's defaults, new operating system blah blah blah...

nt shure if it' fake but just thought it might help

Not sure that i believe this. I could be wrong, but I doubt that apple tells retailers when new products are coming out. From what I understand, the only way that they are "notified", is when apple stops sending them stock, and that can be as little as a week before the update.

I'm posting in this thread because I was waiting for an iMac refresh too! However, I just picked one up less than a week ago off CL for $650 (21.5" 1TB, 4GB RAM, ATI Radeon 4670 - mint condition)...couldn't pass it up so here I am. Still hoping for a 27" base unit gets a boost in CPU and GPU so I can get another one!

My unit does have a slight yellow screen problem but so far it's been amazing! I don't even know how I survived for so long without it!

The official apple site reporting longer waiting times for the i5 than the i7 in Belgium. Is this normal?

The US Apple site is still showing a 24 hour shipping window. But I am hopeful. Something will happen next Tuesday...will it be the MacBook Air, Mac Pro or the much anticipated iMac?
