Are anyone here also planning to game on their Imac? I have owned a Imac 24'' for the last couple of years and something I learned about myself:
1) I am sick of cables and a big mess and a giant ass ugly desktop. Instead of having 1 mac and 1 pc next to each other, which I felt was just... to extreme, I love the middle way of having both in my mac.
2) Bootcamp has worked fine for me so far, with everything. The only problem I have had is that while dual booting my wireless keyboard does not kick in until start up, so I cant press cmd to initiate the disk I want to boot up. then I have to get my old dusty dell keyboard USB wired to do it. but thats a small problem.
3) Since having a cleaner desk and the whole "less is more" I feel more productive. Maybe I have some sort of OCD.
One day I woke up and tried to clean up all my electronics from all my computers over the years, and it just pissed me off. I was so tired of all that crap. I consider myself a big gamer, but I just felt I had been running on this overkill thing.
4) I could get a PC with the same specs as the Imac for perhaps twice as little, and maybe when added the quality of the Imac screen I would perhaps end up paying 1/3 more for the Imac than a similiar specced PC. However, that would also mean a big desktop, a seperate screen, and A HELL OF A LOT OF CABLES.
5) A 4 TB hard drive would be nice. a very high quality one. On my 3 GHz C2D with 8800 GS, the hard drive was the slowest part. I wonder if Apple could fit two Hard Drives in there. Perhaps a SSD/HDD hybrid like the one from Seagate, and then a monster HDD for storage?
6) I wish Apple would treat us in Europe better with some of their services. Okay, Apple you dont want to do Blu-Ray. Fair enough, but why cant so many of us europeans not buy films and tv shows from your Itunes service? It's absolutely unfair. I have a Ipod touch, Airport and several Macs, and I feel like I am not getting the full benefit when I am not allowed to purchase Itunes items that work so wonderfully on apple devices. Really makes me sad.
Some people have said that I could just make an american account, buy itunes card from different websites and pay with paypal and then log in with american account and buy stuff, but then I would need several accounts and the risk of getting banned or suspended eventually, and it's all just more headaches because they havent been able to get this licens isssue sorted out over the last 4-5 years.
Its the same with Hulu, pandora, netflix and so on.. how can you expect people to not do piracy if you dont offer alternatives? the big movie and music companies have horrible double standards over this I think. And the people who get caught in the middle are us who want to buy things, but dont want to wait 6 months or 12 months for it to get released in europe, often at insane and lame prices.
7) I would like to see a remote that can be attatched to the side of the Imac like the white Imacs with the magnet remote.. that was really cool. the aluminium Imacs cant do that.
8)I would love to see Imac come bundled with a backlit wireless keyboard. but a wired version would also be nice. with and without numpad.
9)I would like to see Apple do more to improve Steam and the relationship with gaming. I don't know if that would be a free steam game while purchasing a Mac or something else, but it would be nice.
Imac was the first entertainment household computer, and gaming is part of this entertainment sphere(IMO). Apple could do more. much more. work on OpenGL, hire a Apple Gaming studios of skilled people to help convert games and put them on Steam.
Improve improve improve for the long term to get a bigger catalouge of Mac games, and then wait until all PC games get a considerable higher rate of profit from also having a Mac Version. It could happen.
A popular gaming forum I visit (neogaf.com ) has tons and tons of Mac Users who are incredible hardcore PC gamers who would love to play on their Mac. There is more than a market for it. Absolutely.
10) I know it's not going to happen, but a 30'' Imac would truly be incredible, and in that chassis, they could really fit in some powerful components. Slimness of the machine is a dealbreaker for me.
11)I would love to see them improve the screen. On my Imac 2008, dust gets in behind the glass screen and on to the matte screen. its annoying have to remove the glass panel and clean it every couple of months. also there is much stronger light coming from several places near the bottom corners of the screen. like spot lights of harder light. you only notice it on directly black screens during a movie or startup. not a big deal.
fixing image bleeding would be nice as well.
12) better sound would be amazing. Imac has pretty good sound. I wonder if they could take it up a notch. If they could make a small Imac sub woofer to put underneath the Imac it would be cool. A aluminium style one, with perhaps a little LED.
13) USB 3.0 and 2 Firewire 800 would be really nice. Also even if it falls on dead ears - Blu-Ray.
14) I would love a charger cable from the wireless mouse and keyboard, into the USB so the batteries could be recharged. kinda like the Razer Mamba. its a dual wired/wireless mouse. when you have it in wired, it recharges the batteries. its like the ultimate mouse. it has a little micro usb on the front that goes into the computer with a normal USB. Very very nice.
15) front USB ports. a couple of USB ports on the front of the machine, in the stand itself would be really cool.. I know that, that is probably just a solid peace of aluminium, but it would be nice to have.
