Does Apple usually confirm those events? Mac Pro isn't going to be released in March, maybe June. If there'll be event it'll be for Mini and iMac

They announced the event for the Macbooks, didn't they? But I can't remember what was the time, I think it was one week before the event?

An event in the end of March for all the updates sounds very probable to me. As I mentioned earlier, since Apple most likely will have only hardware updates not a total makeover to at least the iMac and probably the Mac Pro (and from the video shown, the mini as well) they need to make a statement that can cause some media attention. Hardware update for only one of these machines at a time won´t make much notice outside the Mac-Community, so I think they will make a total upgrade of all of their desktop machines in one go...that way they can have an event and desktop sale will boost up.

But, I will still hope every week for an iMac update, since I´m just sitting on the fence waiting to buy one. But, there´s at least no reason not to wait for an update now.

Supposedly, the Apple Desktop event is scheduled for 24th, let's see if it is going to be comfirmed by Apple officialy, so we can all be sure what news they are going to present then. I am waiting for a new iMac 24" myself.

Well a press conference means significant update not just processor bump.
I guess we wait and see what happens in the weeks before.

If it's for updated MacPro's then we'll see a frontpage update to iMac and maybe the mini in the weeks leading up to the event.

I can't see the mini getting it's own event even for a redesign.
Maybe they've pulled the iMac case design one phase earlier otherwise it wouldn't get an event either, even for QuadCore.

Hunch says it's a MacPro event maybe SL release date announcement, which also suggests New Case for MacPro. Maybe updated Mini as 'OneMore Thing'

Then again they did have the notebook event where all where meant to be updated. Although the three.five desktop lines are all very different it would be madness to try and sync there update cycles like the MacBooks

Normally it's one week earlier (Tuesday). For the iPods it was one week. For the MacBooks it was 5 days (Thursday).

I want to believe. It was about ten days ago that another poster listed that the Apple representative said two weeks which is this Tuesday.

However, I have been reading posters saying this same thing since the end of October 2008. Everyone had speculated before Christmas. Apple said not until after holidays.

First week of January it happened again. Second week of January. Then there was the SuperBowl announcement rumor. Didn't happen.

I also remember the Nvidia ION Platform with an Atom CPU stating that it was due out the first week of March, and that was clear back in first week of January, I think. Then, others speculated that maybe it would be a Mac Nano and the Mac Mini would get a little more powerful than normal. I really liked that idea.

Then there was thought that the ION was an Apple TV thing. Then, came out that Apple is currently asking people what they want out of next AppleTV. Maybe it's not coming out soon. Maybe the MacMini will be Atom ION thing.

Then there was the mysterious MacMini bought in a subway that had DUAL graphics.

February came and went with no announcements. Every Monday, I thought tomorrow is the day. Every Tuesday, I thought WOW Apple is now going to do this on Wednesdays. Every Wednesday I thought must be a new thing and Thursday is the day for SURE. Every Thursday, I said ok it's next Tuesday...

I am interested in a new MacMini to perform like an Apple media server OR a real Apple Media Server. That is a new product though, and I don't think a new product will be released until after the desktops are updated and right before holiday season seems most realistic for a media server or new media product.

And the cycle continues. I am NOT even interested in a new iMac, but I love the rumors and gossip.

Anyways, I sorta hope that the iMac, Mac Mini, and Mac Pro are all updated later then this Tuesday. The problem is, I am hopeful for new designs and NEW Apple Cinema Displays. New designs would definitely warrant an actual presentation of everything. A Tuesday update would probably mean nothing more than a speed bump update after a year wait for iMac and something like two years for MacMini.

I hope for next week or the 24th of March like other poster said, as that would mean new designs!

What do you all think? Are we getting new designs or just speed bump updates? Will it really happen this Tuesday as that is three "rep" stated dates for posts within last two weeks.

I can't see new Mac Pros yet, it'll be later on, maybe June or something. Just iMac and Mini update and some info about SL, or maybe a new 32GB iPhone?

We will see...

Why are people constantly going on about an iMac redesign?

It's not going to change it's appearance, but it will get some speed bumps ... probably not even enough to warrant an event of it's own to unveil it.

The new Macbook range was designed to match the look of the iMac, yet you think it's going to change it's appearance?

Hmmm, doubt it ... very much.

i'll agree with you on that... i can't see a new form factor tbh...

I think I seen it mentioned elsewhere, but for what it's worth the John Lewis UK website has no iMac's at all. They have every other Apple product imaginable, including the Mac Mini and Mac Pro, but no sign of the iMac.

People are expecting a new Mini, iMac, and Mac Pro in the desktop refresh, yet only the iMac has disappeared from the John Lewis site. So does this mean the iMac and only the iMac is going to receive an update this month?

If this update goes ahead tomorrow, it'll be interesting to see what model I receive. When I signed up to get the 2.4GHz 20" iMac for £612, I was told the deadline for orders was Feb 27th and that if a new model is launched the price would alter accordingly, including discount. If the order is put through today, of which there's a good chance, then Apple still show the 20" iMac as shipping within 24 hours.

While writing this post I took a look at PC World UK's website, and they are still showing stock, as are Currys Digital. John Lewis are hardly a renound Apple Reseller, more a case of them carrying the brand because of their own reputation.

Whatever happens, I'm not going to argue at getting a brand new 20" iMac for £612. And I'm extremely confident the ones people will be buying after the refresh will look identical to my own, with the exception of an LED screen and some speed bumps ... and a larger hole in their wallets.

If the machine does the job for you, that's all that matters in my opinion.

The iMac is better "value for money" than the Mac Mini, so maybe more people were inclined to buy the iMac over the Mac Mini, given the Mac Minis pathetic specs.

The iMac's haven't been updated since April last year, if Apple were just to do "speed" bumps it would have already been done by now. Since there has been no updates for 10 months, suggests that Apple will be in some way or another implying design changes to the iMac, whether they be minimal or big changes no one will know I guess, but it doesn't make sense that they will just speed bump them, it has been way too long for an update to just do a spec bump....

...design changes to the iMac...

This is for everyone, now. Look closely:

See, now, this just happened. This:

became this:

So, what sense does it make to change THIS:

imac_3_20071026.jpg

Into ANYTHING else?

Makes sense they won't do a big design change. Though I was thinking they might be able make the 'chin' somewhat smaller, perhaps so it'll look more like the standalone LED-display. Just a thought though ;)

Dude, this is APPLE we're talking about here. You remember the quote "the normal thing to say when Apple does something is "how come noone did this before?"? :) I do hope they would make the chin a little smaller, because I would prefer an iMac that would look more like a CD, but I love the current design, so as soon as the new ones pop up in store, I'm getting one, no matter what it looks like.

No, no, no ... it's not about thinking, "This is Apple we're talking about".

It's about using the common sense you know you have, looking at the product line up, looking at the products updated previously (Macbook range), and putting 2 and 2 together to come up with 4.

Macbook was made to look like iMac, and Apple has always kept a consistent design across the range ... just like Tallest Skil posted previously with the previous white and current Aluminum ranges.

I know this is Macrumors, but the amount of sudden posts/threads with "new design" in them is becoming tedious.

As we say in Glasgow, "Use the heid eh"?

Well I'm not getting a new iMac until it gets a major revision, such as Corei7/i5 chips....guess I'll be waiting up to another year for that to materialise. Before you all jump on me decrying my position I can afford to wait as we have top end Macs at work if I need some serious processing grunt. As I'm now a family man any home computer purchase I make has to be for a longer term than is strictly ideal so want to get on board when:

A. There's a significant chip architecture upgrade.
B. Snow Leopard is shipping and its initial bugs have been ironed out.

Unless Apple do something startling with the next iMac revision (and stranger things have been known to happen) it looks as though I'll have to wait for the next upgade after this one.

No one is having a "go" at anyone for hanging off for new iMacs.

What I find somewhat baffling is that there's people on this forum who've been waiting since November because of rumours they read on here, simply because they need to have the latest iMac. That's now 5 months that they could have been enjoying their new Mac that they've spend on here getting wound up.

Although, I don't see i7 chipsets in the iMac for quite a while yet.

The iMac seems to have gained such a status that people look at it as some super powerful all-in-one ... people need to remember that right now it's a high end laptop in a desktop case, and that could very well remain the case while a new SKU comes in between the iMac and Mac Pro that allows upgradable desktop quality parts. Who knows.

Whilst I see your point many people would regard a cost of £1500 for top of the line iMac a fairly hefty outlay - if they can afford to wait then I'd be more inclined to wait for the start of a product revision cycle rather than the end of one. TBH the iMac has gone an extrodinarily long time without a revision so back last November you can see why people on this forum thought an iMac revision would come sooner rather than later. Saying that if you need the computer for productivity then hanging on can be a false economy.

Although, I don't see i7 chipsets in the iMac for quite a while yet.

Without falling into the MacRumous forum cliche of trying to predict what the next revision after this one will have even before we've had this one, personally I'd imagine end of this year or anytime up to March 2010 we'll see the Nehlam chips in the iMac, I'd expect the Mac Pro to get them on this update and then for the technology to filter down across the range as and when Intel adapt them for laptops and desktop configurations.

It will be interesting to see what is revealed on this iMac update - I'll keep an open mind.

Six placeholders in inventory systems says Appleinsider. This bodes well for a staggered desktop release. I think we all agree the Mac Pro is scheduled for the 24th to coincide with the Xeon releases. This could mean either iMac, mini, or iMac & mini releases for tomorrow. I guess every Tuesday has the potential but if this story pans out, we could be in for a special surprise tomorrow.

I think i'm gonna laugh and mock at you people if it doesn't come out tomorrow.

And eat chocolate.

Hey, I just read your signature, you'll be mocking yourself too(in between tears of frustration). :p

Tomorrow, the 24th, June, or 2010, either way, it'll be long overdue.
