The iOS 4 Upgrade, Jailbreak, and Unlock FAQ [Updated 8/2 - Updated Flow Chart]

The extra features that you can enable for the 3G...wallpaper etc can use disable them after the jb? I wanna try outwallpapers etc but might wanna go back to bosspaper

I wouldn't know to be honest with you as i own a 3G! However the website carries a disclaimer that sort of warns a novice 3GS jailbreaker!

I would pay attention to the last part of that paragraph!!

Yip - I am in exaclty the same boat - - - any advice.

Im tempted to just update via itunes to IOS4 and see what happens.
 
I've downloaded Cydia for the first time, and after opening it, it's been 'Downloading Packages' for a while now. Is that normal? How long does it usually take?

My question: Since we need to wait for PwnageTool, what about the windows users? I thought that the current version PwnageTools is only available for Mac users. Will there be a jailbreak for windows users or would we have to wait for the spirit jailbreak?

OK - so I went ahead and did it..... installed IOS4 onto my 3gS with 3.1.3 that had been Jailbroken with Spirit... the update was done using itunes 9.2.

The result is GOOD. IOS4 is up and running. I will post if I run into any issues.

My plan is not to jailbreak again - I assume if i do try to do this there could be problems ......
 
ok, I'm a bit of a noob with Unlocking, i have a 3GS with iOS 4.0 and the 05.13.04 Baseband, i understand that i cannot jailbreak it atm, but can i unlock it?

No! You require to perform a jailbreak first before you can unlock your iphone.

oh darn!, well, i can wait, i guess that it will be out soon since the iOS4 and the 3GS are still popular and people will want to JB/UL them asap

Mines been going on for about 10 mins now. When I cancel it, there's a Error: Refreshing Data that pops up with a couple 'Failed to fetch' notices. What do I do? And even the Cydia app on my phone is just a white box and not the usual Cydia app logo.

The question i ask is, the phone is barred but i can still make a emercency call, im currently on o2! and barred by o2!, can i still unlock this phone to use on o2 again?

ie another o2 sim.

So once you updated you lost your jailbreak and are now on ios only, and don't want to jail break it going forward?

check the title and the very first post may give you a wee hint!!

3G - The Dev-Team has now posted links to Redsn0w 0.9.5-3 beta, which now supports 4.0 jailbreak and hacktivation of the iPhone 3G. The 3GS is still not supported in this beta.

Stop trolling dude, iOS 4 is a major OS Release, those "Dumbasses" including me will get the answer on how to do it soon, i don't understand what is dumb to be excited about a new OS and just update it, some people do it accidentally too
 
I did try playing around with 4.0 GM on my 3GS last week. After playing around with it, I downgraded back to 3.1.3. No Cydia, No fun at all!

I'm now holding a 3GS with Spirited-3.1.3.

I'm holding it very tight for sure until Dev Team release the Jailbreak for 3GS on Official IOS 4.0. ;)

I don't think they're dumba$$es or stupid in the slightest way! Some people, me included have never thought about jailbreaking and faking a chance of voiding the warranty. Now it's around the time that alot of people with iPhone 3G warranty and AppleCare has or is expired and they wan to jailbreak so this is the first time they're looking into it. So the stupid thing would be for them not to ask questions!
 
want to upgrade without upgrading bb

hi i want to upgrade my 3gs jb with cydia and unlocked on bb 5.12.01 to i os4 but dont want to upgrade boot rom does any body knows complete procedure how to do this i just want to get my hans dirty on ios4:)

Some dumbasses on the internet think the whole world has 100% the same intrests then them and keep up on Jailbreak news 24/24 =)

Btw, I'm not one of the people who question iOS4 JB, but some people are way too self centered loll
