Provided that you jailbroke your 3GS with redsn0w, blackra1n, or PwnageTool, yes; if you jailbroke with Spirit, that tutorial won't work.
 
does jail breaking using red snow. activate multitasking? cause it says to download the firmware for your iphone, so i would choose the 3g firmware because i have a 3g iphone but that doesn't include multitasking? so how is everyone getting multitasking and wallpaper on home screen on their 3g?

Redsn0w has an option to enable multitasking and wallpapers.

I am assuming it is ok to upgrade iTunes to 9.2 when using pawnage tools now?

After the pawnage, I am getting a pop up from iTunes saying it can not use the iphone because I need 9.2 upgrade.

Just wanted to confirm before continuing.

Yes, 9.2 is only a problem for people who use Spirit.

answer listed below

JB+Unlocked using Dev Teams pwnage tool + ubersn0w.

Can't find how to enable multitasking, tethering, or wallpapers.

Read every post here and couldn't seem to find it.

Is the only way to achieve that functionality to use Redsn0w.

Any reason you didn't include using pwnage tool w/ 3g.

w/o enabling multitasking and wallpapers, this thing is really fast

i have a 3GS 3.1.3 and modem 5.12 which is jb wit spirit and unlocked wit ultrasn0w...
now i have read d dev team's latest blog about pwnage tool4.0 saying that i shudnt be usin it in my scenario...

my question is has anyone tried dis and do u know wat mit hapn if try to restore with the custom .ipsw wit the present situation i am in???
 
Sorry if this was already answered, but I am in a hurry and can't read through the whole thread right now. I jailbroke my iPhone 3G with the official firmware release of 4.0 using redsn0w, and each time (I jailbroke mulitiple times trying to fix this problem), my wifi works, ie I can browse the internet, but Cydia says "Unable to Load. The internet connection appears to be offline" I can't add any sources either, so I can't unlock my iPhone. Any help is appreciated
 
Currently, I'm 3.0.1, 4/28/08 and the old bootrom (I think). Do I need to do a complete restore then re-jailbreak? Or can I just upgrade to 4.0 and keep my current jailbreak? (thus, keeping all of my saved photos, apps, ect?)

Try this:

On your Laptop/desktop, if it's connected via ethernet, create a shared wireless network. At the point, connect to it and see if it pulls through.

Also, maybe try using a VPN or proxy - I live in China and often times these repo addresses are blocked and I have to use a VPN.

If you don't have a VPN service or a proxy, try using a free one and then connecting the iPhone through the shared wireless, thus creating a wireless signal that is using the vpn/proxy connection.

Beyond that and the normal "Restart that bad boy!" - Im not sure what to suggest.

thanks for the chart thing it makes this all easy to understand

only one more question i have is
what if i unjailbreak the spirit off of my iphone so i will be on 3.1.3. could i use pwnage tool or any other software to then jailbreak to ios 4
 
I hope someone will do something for the never jailbroken 3.1.3/4.0 3GS Owners
