I don't think they're dumba$$es or stupid in the slightest way! Some people, me included have never thought about jailbreaking and faking a chance of voiding the warranty. Now it's around the time that alot of people with iPhone 3G warranty and AppleCare has or is expired and they wan to jailbreak so this is the first time they're looking into it. So the stupid thing would be for them not to ask questions!

completely agree. I see no reason for anyone to really point fingers now even if someone did do something that wasn't incredibly wise - it's not like all of this is incredibly clear at the moment (not saying its hard, just saying it's not incredibly clear

I've been on a jd'd phone for a few years now, including my first JB was all command line - all that to say, I have to read incredibly carefully every time I re-JB - even when laid out in steps, it's still not entirely clear.

I swear, people get so offended by simple -even if they are ignorant - questions on forums - if it offends you that much life must really be difficult for you - how much harder is it to just NOT answer?

Anyways, thats as close to a 'rant' as Ill get this evening. Excited to see whats coming down the pipes from the dev team soon.

Cheers,
Brian

No reason to call someone a dumb ass right now :)

I read the tethering guide and I still come across the same problem. Unless I am reading it wrong. I see how to jailbreak and unlock but how do I do it to a phone I plan to sell? Ideally I would like to sell my 3g 16gb jailbroken, unlocked and completely swiped of all my data.

seriously you are kidding me on??

check the title and the very first post may give you a wee hint!!

3G - The Dev-Team has now posted links to Redsn0w 0.9.5-3 beta, which now supports 4.0 jailbreak and hacktivation of the iPhone 3G. The 3GS is still not supported in this beta.

thanks i hope it works for pc

Thanks in advance.

I think you would erase setting/content and then restore as new (4.0). Then jailbreak/unlock.

I am new at this as well, but that seems to be the easiest way. If you try to erase your data after jb/unlock, it is not as easy (I think!)

Wouldn't that still mean the phone is activated and basically registered to me? If someone else plugged it wouldn't they lose the jailbreak/unlock?
Thank you for answering.

Thank you for answering.

I have not restored as new yet, but I believe you can do it and not have it registered.

There is a thread here about buying an unlocked/jb phone, so maybe that will shed some light on the process the buyer will have to go through and whether or not they will lose any jailbreak (I don't think they would as long as they don't erase settings/content again).

Can anyone confirm this?

I'm a fan of iClarified's guides on jailbreaking/unlocking. They haven't updated those pages for iOS 4, however. So my situation is this: I have an iPhone 3G with 4.26 baseband and it's jailbroken and unlocked using UltraSnow. Can someone point me to a guide that will tell me how to get iOS 4 working on my phone? I only care about the unlock and not about any other advantages of jailbreaking.

TIA!

UPDATE:
Crap. Nevermind. THEY HAVE updated it: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=4253

Thanks anyway!

1) I have official dev GM (and yday release) - I was just posting for everyone else's sake.

2) What?

3) mm don't have an 'anti-virus'.

4) Chrome.

Thanks anyway, hopefully will be useful to someone.

by #2 i meant that one of my pc's would always give errors, whilst the other would complete the jailbreak flawlessly. hopefully it will be usefull:D

Anyone having problems downgrading back to 3.1.3 from iOS4? I have iPhone 3G and iOS4 was way too slow/buggy for me to use so I want to go back to 3.1.3. I keep getting itunes error code 1015 when I try to manually restore to 3.1.3.ipsw. I've read that other people have had similar issues with downgrading to 3.1.3 but 3.1.2 seems to work for them. I will try this later today.

Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode):

I'm looking for my bootrom version (even though I am fairly sure it's the old one - I have a launch 3GS) and I was told to put my iphone into recovery mode and look it up in the System Profile. Unfortunately, I am either missing my iBoot information or it's just not in there.

I have Mac and PC access. What's the best way to look up my iBoot information?

Why do you need that for?
If its a launch 3GS then its an early bootrom.

There is a link in the first post of this thread that will answer your question.

Updated to reflect the release of PwnageTool 4.0. Users of old-bootrom 3GS phones that are currently pwned can now upgrade to a custom 4.0 firmware.

The warning remains for new-bootrom 3GS users: if you update your phone to 4.0 there is currently no way for you to jailbreak it. You may be stuck unjailbroken for some time.

What about old-bootrom 3GS who are NOT pwned? I fall into that category :D

I've tried PwnageTool 4 several times now (both simple and expert) and I am getting a "FAIL".

I have a 3Gs at 4.26.08 originally JB with a custom 3.1.3(7E18) ipsw with Pwnage Tool 3.

Any suggestions?

I have 359.3 bootrom (checked the other day)....so I should be good to go?

Ok this was my first jailbreak and it went flawless on my 3g updated to yesterdays IOS4.0 using Redsnow.

I followed these directions:

http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-jailbreak-ios-4.0-with-redsn0w-0.9.5b5-3/

It does seem the phone is running slower after jailbreaking but no worse than prior to updating to 4.0.

Am I supposed to be able to see battery percentage with the jailbreak or no?

When I start an app and hit the home button it closes as it normally would so I dont understand the multitasking either.

Tried running Tuner then going to home screen and Tuner still quits.

The only thing I see that is working is the wallpaper.

does jail breaking using red snow. activate multitasking? cause it says to download the firmware for your iphone, so i would choose the 3g firmware, but that doesn't include multitasking? am i right?
