I'm sort of keeping an eye on a few at the moment, not going to rush into buying anything else yet. I see Silentium have some nice updates coming (via Twitter), same with 1Blocker and Purify.

Just gonna see how they all pan out...

Crystal will integrate Adblock Plus's "acceptable ads" whitelist, which includes advertisers that pay a fee to Eyeo (Adblock Plus). Eyeo pays a monthly fee of $5600 for that favour to Crystal's developer. They also tried to get other Content blockers on board but Blockr declined. Eyeo is one evil company!

Wow. $5600 a month is enough for a family to live comfortably. Crystal's developer just hit pay dirt.

I wanted to try out "Sarafi Blocker" which came out yesterday but some people on this forum seem to worry about the creditability of a Chinese developer. Well, this morning I pulled up the app in the App Store and saw 10 positive reviews so I decided to finally give it a try. So far I am very impressed by the app. It works perfectly without any configurations. Most of the sites reported in this thread which were either broken or not loaded properly are working just fine with this new blocker.

Exactly, that's what I've been trying to tell people! I was running the beta and only have good things to say about it!!

This is so ironic.. The crystal's dev always said he wont do that... And guess what?? He did.

People here defending him for being honest, and in the end he is an evil dev.

Now i hate crystal.

PURIFY FTW.

You can't blame Crystal's dev. $5600/mo is a lot of money. Most of us work very hard from 9-5 taking needless and endless abuses from our boss still take home less than that. I guess it's time to uninstall Crystal.

As long as the developer of Crystal (Dean) discloses in the upcoming release that "acceptable ads" have been included (whitelisted) and gives users the opportunity to block all ads regardless, I have no problem with the deal he struck. If that doesn't happen, I won't use the app and will make sure to detail the new practice in a follow-up review.

Using that reasoning, the same can be said of any content blocker or app.

With all the Mac and programmer geeks around here, I wouldn't think it too hard for them to ascertain when an app is acting outside of stated protocol. Granted, there is no guarantee such is always caught. At the same time, its not like the lists used in such can't be extracted from the app(s) and analyzed.

Quick technical question on Content Blockers, I haven't reviewed the API documentation, but does anyone know offhand if they are 'secure' (i.e. can't snoop/report back to the dev on websites used/passwords etc?)

Your blatant Purify whoring isn't fooling anyone. Thank God for fair and just users like BasicGreatGuy who give honest, comprehensive reviews so other users can make an informed decision and not base their decision on 'PURIFY FTW.'.

We both have the same opinion: PURIFY is the best.

But i cut out the burocratic sh*t and give you all a honest and direct answer: PURIFY is the best at this moment.

But i still love to read BGG reviews. I am only simplifying the life of new users here.

well,Crystal app returned, purchased Purify.
It worked ok but some side adds weren't blocked.

EDIT: checked with my main diary page and yes Purify blocks more adds.

Well nice to see things back to normal here for me. I bought Purify and did the basic enable and suddenly I couldn't post replies here, the site disappeared then came back in a strange jumbled version. Tried other sites like Instantwatcher and when I tapped a film to read info on it wouldn't load, just a blank page. So re-booted my iPad Air twice, tried turning settings on and off in Purify and now seems normal. Pretty strange. Anyway my question is I'm not too familiar with apps like this so is their a best way to set the preferences. Will ads just not appear on a site with the basic setting enabled? Thanks for bearing with me.
