I'm not sure if there's anything wrong with my Silentium or something.. It seems like the ad blocking is getting worse and worse as the day is going on.. I went to IGN mobile site on the iPhone and seems like a lot of ads are showing.. Anyone else with the same experience?

This adblocking thing is very confusing. There are a thousand of them and they all to be doing more or less the same thing. Any real differences?

I got Crystal, and now I just got Purify. There is also Blockbear. Should people be concerned which adblock they run or any will just do fine?

Here's my criteria:

1. Does it block ads that used to appear on websites I visit?
2. If yes, how much quicker does that page load now that the content is blocked and against the competition.
3. Is whitelisting allowed for sites that either break when being blocked or don't work (i.e. videos on YouTube).

Thus far, Purify meets all the above criteria, and in my experience, loads pages the fastest. I either turned off the other content blockers, or deleted them.

Look at https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ios-9-content-blockers-mini-reviews.1918483/ which holds very good mini reviews. At the end of the day it's what works for you and the sites you visit.

Some use two as blockers in conjunction which is said to give better results if the two play nice together.

I think that's a good point - if this is how content blockers work then it would be a good idea to use only one or in the case of multiple blockers, check the whitelist. As many people are trying now, using a combination of multiple blockers, one of them could be really good but if you have another lousy one which whitelists sites and it takes preference then the the first good blocker is kind of useless.

Also I think, if advertisers are going to pay/compensate anyone then those should be the users and not just app devs, because ultimately they are consuming user's resources, data and affecting overall performance. So the user is the one who should be compensated for, devs are merely acting asa middleman here.

It’s possible that Safari stops executing block rules if it is overburdened with too many. I remember reading something about this. Either that or one of these blockers is whitelisting certain advertisers/trackers. I think Safari will always give preference to those.

hi - sorry for the inconvenience.
Send us an issue through the safari extension. Are you on 1.1 beta? Thanks

1Blocker is definitely the fastest. It's noticeable.

Ben Brooks is on point here.

I agree and the level of customization and adding your own URL blockers is especially awesome. While most blockers you just install and go, this one is much more involving and feature rich, perfect for tinkerers and people that like to customize their blockers. Reminds me of uMatrix on the PC/MAC/Linux.

I was able to take advantage of the 14 day refund for Purify, so that I could buy it (again) at the lower price. I told Apple exactly why I wanted a refund. If the new update was here already, I would have felt better about the $3.99. Paying $0.99 feels much better for what the app is at this moment.

Thank you Apple for the great support.

I did the same but i didn't buy purify back again like you. I love that app but i think we have a superb free contender: adblock fast

After this, i feel like i am wasting money buying other 'content blockers'. This one is perfect, imho.

The only thing that can change my mind is the curiosity to see the next purify's update. Hmmmmm

^^ This

iOS 9 just came out so we can expect dozen of new ad blockers coming out in the next weeks/years. I see no reason to pay for one. Many are just creating a modified version of some open source version and rebranding. Many devs are dying to make a deal like the one Crystal developer made with Eyeo (Adblock plus) before more players appear. It's a gold rush.

Adblock Fast is free, open source, fast and resource (cpu) friendly. You can't go wrong. Just make sure the toggle is ON in Safari options and in the app.

Odd my friend. I haven't had any issues with the beta blocking ads or stopping to block them. I went to the site and didn't see any ads. I see the developer responded in the thread. :)

There's no option to whitelist in Adblock Fast, plus no other options. While it seems to work reasonably well, not having more options is a biggie for some. By the way, paying to support developers isn't a bad thing.

In regards to Crystal's deal, I have no issues with it. I've read his explanation and he's being open and transparent about it. He isn't sneaking anything in and you or other users can just opt in or out.

There could be developers out there who've already cut a deal and aren't disclosing a thing. At least this developer is being upfront about it and explaining what was done and how it will work.

More options would be great but there's not a single website I encountered problems with Adblock Fast. It doesn't matter if the developer respond in real time if you have to contact him all the time to fix websites.

I'm not judging devs nor Crystal developer. I think the deal is fair since it's an OPTIONAL whitelist.
And I don't think it's bad to support developers. I buy plenty of apps and donate when the app is free.

Here Adblock Fast doesn't block sponsored ads on ebaumsworld and it doesn't block a banner ad on Huffington Post. I'm sure there are other sites it doesn't do well on. The point is, no ad blocker does it all perfectly. Not even the free ones. You need developers to be responsive, because the day your choice starts failing you won't be thinking it doesn't matter that the developer responds.

I believe options are needed in ad blocking apps, because there is just no way to render each individual site perfectly. Just my opinion. If Adblock Fast is working for you in every aspect, then that's the app for you. To me, there are many other good ones with many more options to implement.

Sent a email to the Silentium developer last night about the app, and a reply was waiting for me when I woke. That's how it gets done, folks. Attention to customer details.

That's what we want out of all these developers. It's the only way content blocking can be improved. There's no one perfect rule set or app. It comes down to who will act on a screenshot or website you send in for adjustment.

Do you have a .class or #ID for the sponsored ad element? I'd like to try a custom rule in Blockr
If this what you are looking for?

<a id="yui_3_8_1_1_1443314888018_731" class="" href="http://hsrd.yahoo.com/

Clicked on a sponsored ad in Firefox and that is part of what shows. It looks like that ID number is the is similar to their other ads. Here is another

Trying to figure out a way to block Yahoo sponsored ads. From what i can see, they are all coming from http://beap.gemini.yahoo.com I am not sure of the syntax to block everything from that URL. Testing with 1Blocker

I've been working with the AdMop developer on the Yahoo sponsored ads issues. He finally was able to solve it and his new rules set blocks Yahoo sponsored ads using my 6+ and iPad Air 2!

I have to tell you, this developer is such a nice person. He's very receptive to feedback and wants to solve issues that crop up. AdMop is one of the content blockers to watch, especially if he adds a few more options.
