They finally added EirCodes (zip codes) to Ireland! Thank the lord! A lot of the addresses here are less than specific so zip codes are tied to a specific building/location, making it something like a complete address. They show up in both POI listings, and if you search using one. It also looks like the British system got added too, and I think they use something similar, but I don’t know as much about that.

As a huge supporter of Apple Maps, I was quite upset coming home from a lunch meeting 40 miles away.

The highway was closed, so Maps had me head south on a smaller highway and the u-turn back onto the highway to get around what I thought was just a closed bridge.

As I was heading north, I saw the exit ramp for the main highway closed. Maps had to take me further north and get on a different road to get back home.

I just recreated the trip in Maps so I could send a report. The routing was NOT incorrect…I simply got back on the highway accidentally instead of staying on the access road right next to it as Maps correctly directed.

I wonder how many times something like this happens and people (like me) initially blame Maps??

Yes, not all places have the ability to rate (or add photos, sadly) depending on their category - and as pointed out earlier, the options to rate are also different based on the category.

Eg, I can't rate a train station (or add photos.... again, sadly) or a school, but cafe, dentist, supermarket are all fine.

(this is in Australia)

Hello, I am glad to report here that the review features are now available for POI in HK after upgrading iOS to 14.5.

before I was able to rate only selected poi in US and UK .

Now, I am not only able to review shopping malls and restaurant, but also landmarks in hk. Photo upload is also available for poi in hk too.

with the new review features, I am hoping Map could evolve quickly and become more usable for users in hk.

Wait...so what was the underlying problem? How the length of the road closure was represented on the map?

No…I made a wrong turn onto a ramp instead of staying straight in the road right next to it.

And I can’t even show it to you now. Maps is so good, they already have the nightly closures done and I can’t replicate the route it gave me.

Basically…user error, but since I was driving onto an on-ramp, I didn’t notice I was wrong. Maps had already changed the route.

The UK postcode system has always been on Maps as far as I’m aware. Certainly you could search by postcode, and see addresses with postcodes.

Sadly still not available in germany…

Hope they don‘t stagger the rollout that long.

Question for those who live in an area that has Look Around coverage available. Did you get a notification about it when it became available? (Just wondering if this was handled the same way as when the new Map became available).

The rollout of LookAround is taking a very, very long time. Hoping they expand it massively in iOS 15.

That’s a great question!
I would assume that's how it'll go. I remember getting a notification when my area (the Midwest) got its new Maps. I think I saw a screenshot somewhere on here or Reddit about a notification regarding Cycling directions in areas where it was available.

It would make sense to have a notification pop up, since they want you to know about it!

I was browsing through Apple's list of countries that are currently being mapped. Seeing Israel on the list, I figured current events in that area would present a bit of a road block for collecting ground data. Turns out I was wrong! The page states that Israel was done in March.

New Zealand also wrapped up in March.
Australia has pedestrian data wrapping up this month. Vehicle data finishing in June.
Singapore was done in January.

There are quite a few other countries on the list. Some ongoing, some done already. Australia could take some time to be released based on size. Israel, New Zealand, and Singapore...I could see those being handled pretty quickly given that they are not all that large. (I don't think they'd release those three at the same time, but I imagine they'd come pretty close together).

As for Spain, which I was lucky enough to be able to see on my Mac for a little while...I lost that one!

Look Around has expanded to Atlanta. The slow pace for the US continues...

(Though it appears that the coverage of the Atlanta area is a pretty decent size)!

14.5.1 iPhone 12 Pro Max - Maps is a total disaster in 14.5.1, and I say that as a long term user and supporter. Twice in the last week it has sent me to actually geographically incorrect locations, off by > 1/2 mile ATCF, and significantly more by road. The first time I thought it had to be me, so I was very careful the next time. Something is very flawed.

Example? No issues here. On 14.6 beta though.

I've used Maps daily on 14.5.1 and had no issues going to known locations (work\home) along with a few places i've never been to. Routed me fine and traffic indications have been fine as well.

How long would one expect Apple to correct reported labelling error? After the last Apple Maps update back in the autumn? if I recall correctly, my location for weather etc when offshore in the North Sea prior to the update roll out was correct, now it has me in the North Atlantic. That’s a hug error in my book :p Is there a way I can escalate this?:D My OCD is struggling with this one each time I’m away at work ;)

When you drop pins at different locations in this area (ie between the Northern Isles and Norway) you variously get the ‘North Atlantic Ocean’ or the ‘North Sea’ given as the address so it’s very strange. But also suggests its not just a simple case of moving a pin.

The GIS person in me says why didn’t they just do the oceans as polygons but I guess it’s not as simple as that.

EDIT: I tried the same on Google maps-the pins come up with ‘Near North Sea’ or ‘Near Norwegian Sea’ unless you drop the pin close to one of the labels.

Is it something Apple are likely to correct? Thanks 😊

I’m on it….

….and btw, has anyone seen a road report yet? I get the feeling Apple is accepting the reports, but still in testing and not sharing them yet. I haven’t seen a single pic of it in action.

I haven't seen anything pop up on my screen while navigating yet. Ironically, I've also never had an opportunity to report anything yet!
