Thanks MRU!

The IP6+ is really close to the OnePLus
The OnePLus is a little smaller

I love that site you linked! Thanks for that. I am going to preorder the IP6 tonight. But I might have to get the Alpha too.......

I'm actually hoping Samsung uses the same DNA in the S6. In the process, also shrinking back down to a more reasonable size like the S4.

The S6 really doesn't need to grow anymore.

I doubt that'll happen. If anything, the two will continue to evolve going forward, the larger display Galaxy S series for people who like it and the Alpha line for a those who prefer a smaller footprint. If they need to dump a product line, I say get rid of the woefully inadequate Galaxy Mini.

I agree with you! If Samsung continues with the Alpha thought process then we might see a "not bigger" S6 anyway. I am more liking the 5 inch size. That is perfect for me.

They should have just made a single 5" iphone with all the features of the plus model and called it a day.

So they're calling it "6 plus" but it's really only 5.5 inches? Way to steal a page out of my playbook, Apple.

now the phone is too big? What the hell is wrong with you people, make up your mind.

These phones are getting too big period. In fact the S4 was my limit, and I'd rather not be pushed into a larger device due to spec gimping of the smaller size.

The S4 was just such a nicely sized and weighted device.

I'm a bit concerned that the 6 Plus is actually a good bit taller than my Note 2. I usually keep my Note 2 in the breast pocket of my jacket, but I'm not sure I could even close the pocket flap with a 6 Plus in there. Kind of ironic that I might now choose a Note because it is SMALLER than another phone :p

Meanwhile, there are actually advantages to the extra length of the 6 Plus. I often watch videos or read for extended periods with my Note 2, lying down with my elbows rested, holding the phone horizontally with both hands. This is a very comfortable position - but I often find that I actually wish the Note would be a tiny bit longer, it'd be even more comfortable then.

And I'm not holding the length of the 6 Plus against Apple. I don't think skipping the home button would be a wise choice for them, and the most fundamental design cues of the iPhone demand that the bezels be symmetrical. So, I'm really fine with it being huge. Phablets demand to be used in a different way than regular smartphones anyway, and I'm sure I'd find a good way to deal with the length of the 6 Plus in everyday use.

In the end, the real choice here is Android or iOS. The final decider for me will be how iOS 8 ends up being when finally released; how 3d party keyboards work, how useful Handoff and Continuity end up really being for me, what the widgets are like, the new possibilities for app integration, etc.

So not that often :p.

I completely agree. The 6+ is taller, but overall has a smaller volume than any competing phablet out there. Personally I care more about the width and thickness because those directly affect my grip on the device. As you point out, the thicker top and bottom bezels are both necessary for the design (though I think they could've shaved a tad bit off both) AND make the device comfortable to hold in landscape.

Given the 6+ gets landscape mode, this is important IMO. I've always been intrigued by the Note, but never liked TouchWiz. The 6+ will cause me to take the plunge and try out a phablet. I'm getting both the 6 and 6+ - the 6 to replace my work 5S and the 6+ as my personal device (and as a replacement for my iPad mini - I'm gonna just stick with the Air from here on out).

Yeah I thought the one plus one was too big for me instantly after getting it in my hand, which means the 6+ is just out of the question for me.

The alpha is actually smaller than the iPhone 6

http://mobiledevicesize.com/compare/#472,473,457,359;1

Alpha is even thinner and lighter (negligible delta) than iphone 6 with same screen size. Is iphone 6 comes with remote blaster. Samsung removed that feature from Alpha.

I call complete and utter BS on this. Take a ip6plus sized phone and holding it with only ONE hand try to double tap the home button. You are not going to be able to do it without some kind of balancing act. I challenge you to dispute that. When you get your ip6+ upload a YouTube video of how you do it. Better yet why wait, grab a Note 3 or similar size phone and upload the video today.

I don't have that concern on my Note 3 with one handed use, without adjusting hand position on the phone, without reaching down to the home button with my thumb, I simply swipe in from anywhere on the side of the screen about an inch then back out and presto, I have an iphone 5 sized screen that can be used one handed in both the x and y axis. As for the home button, that's the beauty of Android, it's customizable. For example I can use Nova launcher and customize a custom gesture to mimic the function of the home button, or I can remap the buttons, there is a variety of customization possible to solve any problem.

Are we talking about the same thing? "Balance the phone on your fingertips while your thumb reaches down... With any of those scenarios you are balancing the phone and in danger of dropping it:"

I have small hands, but even I can reach across to the otherside of my Note 3 and double tap the home button.

If your life consists of sitting around all day thats fine, but stop telling other people how to use their phone: thanks.

Not sure what you mean by "sitting around all day." But if you are holding your phone so that you have to "balance the phone on your fingertips while your thumb reaches down... With any of those scenarios you are balancing the phone and in danger of dropping it" then you should probably take my advice...

Maybe I'm holding it wrong if no one else can reach the home button on their Note 3 without awkwardly balancing the phone with the risk of dropping it.

I wanted a new smartphone with one of the latest offerings. Now I will get a phablet since that is what all of them are anyways. :)

wait - are you saying iphone has ir blaster? how did I miss that?
S5 has IR blaster. Samsung removed it from Alpha. I can switch on my tv and contorl Roku and reciever with apps without reaching out to physical remotes. I don't know about IR blaster in iphone 6 or if it is a specific to plus only. It is very common and useful feature in top end phones.

Phones without IR will most likely use WiFi to control stuff remotely. Like controlling a Apple TV, Roku, or Smart TV. iPhone does not have IR sensor.

Phones with an IR sensor can control just about anything with an IR receiver. My S4 can control a Tube TV from the late 80's.

Yeah, the width and thickness definitely matter. More so than most realise, I think. And I'm really glad the Plus beats my Note 2 on both these - it will definitely be easier to handle one-handed.

Yeah I agree, double tapping the home button of my Note 2 while holding it with one hand is no problem whatsoever. I don't see that being a big deal at all on the Plus. Meanwhile, I have to admit that the one handed mode on the Note 3 seems a tad more elegant than Apple's solution. It's just a pity that the background around the minimised screen isn't black.

I'm not sure, it's possible we are talking about 2 different things. When I hold my Note 3 I usually hold it from the right side in my right hand, with my hand grabbing the phone about in the middle of the phone. From that position there is no way my thumb is reaching the home button, if I contort it down it is short about 1 or 1 1/2 inches. At that point I would have to "slide" my phone in my hand that 1 1/2 inches and then my thumb will reach, but then it won't reach any of the UI elements on the top of the phone. At that point I would be "sliding" the phone up and down to alternate between pushing the home button and interacting with apps. It becomes cumbersome and annoying VERY quickly. It also needs some balancing which may vary if, for example you are in a crowded subway with people jostling around you, walking, etc.

My hands are fairly large, but I would have to assume you have some very long and huge thumbs to be able to reach the home button if you grip your phone the way I do. Alternatively you may always grip your phone towards the bottom, but in that case you would eventually have to slide back up to access the top of the phone screen.

I've included a picture of my typical grip on the phone, I have my thumb contorted down as far as it will go. Sorry for crappy pic, my tablet is the only other camera besides the Note 3 I have. Now I'm not saying it's not possible to sit there and slide the phone around constantly one handed like that, I'm saying it requires a certain degree of balance and dexterity which will be made much harder out in public. Samsung's one handed mode handily and completely solves this issue.
