I hope for all of your sakes you don't end up without 5G for over a week and well into your birthday. Yay me. I just remember the chaos of CDMA and GSM, TSMC vs Intel I think, battery throttling, demanding if you need a charger buy it $$$ with plenty of plastic wrapping. Headphone jack? Nope!

If apple is leading, we're not going anywhere. Android needs to absolutely NOT follow suit. These companies can just steal your whole entire account. Physical phone, internal SIM, number...
The eSIM, thing, Android did it first, with the first foldable MOTO RAZR being eSIM only.

It’s interesting the negative feedback about eSIM, towards the phone maker instead of the carriers. eSIM is simply the progression of SIM technology, so why aren’t we taking it out on the carriers for being lazy and greedy? Weird.

I think that's a good point eSim should be ready across the board for all carriers and I know some of them are behind or don't have it perfected yet but at the end of the day I think this is the way to go anyway so let's roll with it folks.. hey a few of us have Pixel phones so we used to being the test subjects lol

As I mentioned earlier that Apple has a history, many decades in the making of shaking up the industry. They did it by switching from 8" floppy disk to the hard 3.5" floppies, they changed things up again by going with CD's instead of floppies, then dropped CD/DVD's and went with flash drives. I remember back then they bucked the trend each time but did it anyway. During the launch of the iPad they bucked the trend by refusing to use Flash because of its many instability and security problems. Steve Balmer said the iPad had no chance to succeed.

Now they are pushing the industry towards eSim even though the industry is not ready. As I recall, the industry wasn't ready in the past but Apple decided to do it anyway and the industry moved in Apple's direction. I expect the same will happen with eSim's.

Yep exactly get with the program and go with it that's exactly what's going to happen... When they get complaints from customers that want their shiny new iPhones activated and the complaints start coming in we'll see how fast they change up

All that is true....In a lot of ways Apple takes the technology lead in a lot of spaces. BUT the way they do it is not always user friendly. They do not always gather technology vendors particiapation in moving to a certain direction.
When that happens the customer is always caught in the middle for support issues.

True leadership is gathering participation and coloboration with business partners in moving to new technologies.

That's because Apple assumes it is now The Leadership. They have been doing this when they were puppies in the tech world back in the 80's. I guess they took the idea of Think Different and assumed they now drive the industry for better or worse. I am indifferent to eSim vs physical but I can see it possibly backfiring on them if people choose not to buy their new eSim only phones.

In the end it won't be Apple who decides whether we go all in on eSim and kick physical Sims to the curb but rather it will be the customer who gets the final say on the matter. If they overwhelmingly reject eSim's it will hurt future smartphone sales.

Agreed...but that will not happen to Apple and the iPhone. No matter what they include or exclude...it will not affect sales. One thing you can count on is the Apple failthful will still buy the new iphone no matter what.

I have never seen a comapny enjoy such a blind faithful following as Apple enjoys at the moment.

I came real close to buying a 14 PM from Xfinity Mobile with a $400 discount but man I can't go thru with it. I just am too used to Android and I got to playing with a display 13 PM at the store and thought it was nice but I love Android too much.

As you know in Asia and many other countries our sims are registered against our passports and ID, even in UK O2 would only send a replacement sim or esim to your registered address or by physical proof of address in store

I for sure dislike telecos in Malaysia that only allow esims on post-paid contracts and charge you a monthly fee for it, where Thailand its free even on pre paid

Carriers must abide by local laws and Apple would be simply pushing that extra burden on to carriers with more support costs as every year with millions of sales as all esims have to be re-registered

Even with so called new esim transfer apps the number of users requiring assistance is likely to overload customer support when new devices are launched, so I do sympathise to a degree.

Many countries the carriers have to work harder to get fee's given the trend for many to use pre-paid with no data and rely on public, work and home WIFI.

Many run their phones on just $1 or $2 a month and not like the west with $30 unlimited data plans, someone somewhere has to pay and it wont be Apple.

It will take a few years before esims are truly free for all

In his 14 Pro review, MKBHD said the AOD implementation isn’t what he was expecting. He turned it off on his 14 Pro.

Apple’s approach to AOD makes no sense.

Just watching some of the AOD videos I tend to agree it's not really The way I would want to use it personally if I had the newer phone

I think coming from an Android user, the perspective could be a bit different given that Android has had AOD feature for years.

You give an iPhone user who has never swayed away from the platform… Apple’s AOD approach might seem extraordinary. But I think both MKBHD and TheVerge came to the same conclusion… AOD feature drains battery and they prefer Android‘s implementation.

The camera reviews are a bit all over the place. The Verge said the sharpness is dialled up way too high and noise reduction is too strong. In comparisons to the 6 Pro, the Pixel took better photos.

Personally, I'm not surprised by this one but. iPhone apologists will always say how good iPhone cameras are, but it's ALWAYS been Pixel for me.

I'm seriously contemplating cancelling my preorder and going all in 7 Pro.

Google has proved that it's not so much the hardware but the software and AI. I'm now considering the 7 Pro as well for the 120Hz screen. I will wait for Marques to post the review on his YT channel. He prefers the Pixel vs the iPhone. I am more interested if Google has addressed battery life. As Marques mentioned the 6 Pro gets around 3-4 hrs OST while the iPhone can deliver around 11 hrs with the 13 PM.

It’s not for everybody but I like it. Showing wallpaper, widgets and notifications I think works well. Depends if people want all that

I think the 14 pro max will be a great camera for many people. There’s a camera update due on lsujch day so will see. Some reviews praising it some day not a big upgrade. Best thing to do is test it for yourself.

I think pixel generally takes the best photos year in year out in key areas. Certainly with skin tones

I'm in the same boat. Bought iPhone 12,13 pro on launch day only to return for the pixel 4,5 and 6.. i actually prefer iPhones for the build quality but only the camera on pixel keeps me with google.
I hope iPhone 14 pro is atleast on par with pixel 6 photos.

Picking up 14 pro tomorrow..fingers crossed

Apple's approach to many things makes no sense
There are may teams at Apple. Every few years they rotate. But here is the kicker. Apple has only one team decicated to the Pros and for now thats Mac only. Apple calls it the Pro Workflow team this team has the most common sense in all of Apple's departments. (The only other team that does better work than this team is the Apple chip team)

This team designed the iPad Pro 2018, Mac Pro 2019, 16" MBP 2019, 14" and 16" MBP 2021 and lastly the Mac Studio.
Now Apple has been making its laptops thicker, bigger fans and adding ports back like SD card, HDMI and MagSafe.
The Pro workflow team only works on the Pro Macs mostly but at times they work on iDevices like the iPad Pro.

I am hoping the Pro Workflow team works on the iPhone next.

Currently, iPhones are kings in video. No one else comes close. But photos nah. Pixel beats it easily.

Apple needs to fix its ISP and image processing software.

My 14 Pro Max was delivered. First thing I’ve done after set up is add haptics to the keyboard. And LOL.
You can’t even feel them. Absolutely pointless. Nice work, Apple.

ok now your reaching... I noticed it and I also use a Pixel.
I’m not reaching at all. I’ve used plenty of android phones to know what kind of keyboard haptics I like. And this ain’t it.
Also, if you use a regular pixel then the haptics on that are also crap (barely there) compared to the Pro. Which is much stronger.
So unless you’ve experienced a plethora of phones with it then I’ll keep my opinion.

Ok I respect your opinion. Apple haptic engine is gold. I love setting timers on iPhone in the clock app. They need to provide a haptic slider to suit your taste for the keyboard I guess.
