Wow, you seem to have a lot of knowledge about it for someone that’s never tried it.

A lot of the people that have had hands on with the device say they were surprised with its functionality and that it acts as basically a live multitasking shade which doesn’t sound like a gimmick but rather something that turns dead space into something to increase productivity.
You may be incapable of extrapolating the limited info we have but as it stands so far it consumes more space than the so called dead space, no idea how this will look in say landscape mode let alone with a black background

It looks fun initially but ultimately will get boring or annoying IMO, it there was a genuine need for these popups they would already be there pill hole or no pill hole

I am excited to try dynamic island (who came up with that name?). It is a great idea for notifications and interacting with them or not interacting with them. But it is better than just having a notch or dead space.
Here is a great video explaining in more detail

I like it ... Definitely a winning idea imo

Now what will they call the punch hole when they adopt it next?

Ordered a Pro Max in Silver.
Haven't used an iPhone in well over a year now, so thought I'd go back and see how I got on.

As I've said many times before, I like iOS and can happily use it as my main device. I just prefer android overall but I've been on Android now since the Z Flip 3 last year (which was replaced by Pixel 6 and Xperia 1 IV). I've still got my Pixel 6 Pro which I will look to trade in against a 7 maybe, but for now I'll see how iPhone treats me.

Also, I never go Max, but my 6 Pro is practically the same size as a Pro Max and I'm used to it so thought, why not. Can always send back to apple in the 14 days if I change my mind. :)

Yeah I'm sure just depends if I miss the Pixel! Which I probably will.
The fact there is a new main camera sensor now, plus AOD, plus the coolness of the island (stupidest name ever) means there's probably enough reason to switch back for a bit.

Also, with ios16 they finally added haptics to the keyboard I read, which sounds like a non event but is one thing I've always hated not having when I've moved back to iPhone previously.

I'm also looking forward to having a phone with a good battery. 😅

I like the way Jason Snell of Six Colors summed it up…
Remember, it’s been five years since the iPhone X introduced the stable peninsula that we call the notch. That was the first cut at this sort of interface; the company’s had half a decade to think about its next move.

We still can't wrap my head around no physical SIM .. I think it's a little bit early for going all in on it but we shall see.. definitely not good for phone swappers lol
Well, this is the same company that told the audience whom want RCS on iPhone… ”Buy your Mom an iPhone.” lol

To imply… they don’t want you phone swapping especially not to Android.

Since most on this thread have androids as well, won't the esim basically not let you swap between phones on a regular basis? I have a S22 Ultra and looking at the 14 but I'm not choosing one over the other if you can't swap between them.

But we don't know that and that might not be the case. I checked with my mobile carrier "Mint Mobile" and they told me it's a matter of just scanning a QR code from your email and it makes the switch seamlessly. Surely, Apple doesn't want you or anyone else on an iPhone to go to Android but they might not have a say in that. The FTC or DOJ might decide to get involved because that's what might happen if Apple decides to throw up too many roadblocks from switching to Android.

As far as eSims go, that was inevitable with or without Apple. They have a long history of shaking things up. They did that with 3.5" floppies, CD drives, USB flash drives and now eSims. The industry will adjust just like they have in the past. Honestly I see that as a good thing not having to deal with sim cards and just downloading the eSim. Carriers will make it so that they will optimize the process of switch between phones because more and more people have more than one phone lying around.

Fortunately I do not have to deal with carriers in the US or Canada. You are dreaming if you think they will optimize the process. Their history (with a few exceptions) regarding customer service is appalling.

Who's service is appalling?

Obviously, the real reason by the decision is by their vision to have no ports or physical entry to the phone (eventually the charging port will get axed).

However, the action does make phone swapping much difficult… I do know that you can go online or call a carrier to get an eSIM. But it‘s not as easy as switching phones via physical sim which in return makes switching to Android an annoyance.

Supposedly from what i've read is that Apple will allow you to download an eSim to your phone even with bluetooth. What that means, I don't know but yes, right now now there's no set standard but as eSims become the standard, carriers will have to refine and adjust or they will lose subscriber business.

Atm, my carrier is making it pretty easy and I have been looking forward to the day not having to swap sims from one phone to another.

Every time I have an inkling of buying an iPhone, my Pixel rings and I screen the call and another spam/robocaller bites the dust. That's when I realize how well Google's AI works picking off Robo and Spam callers. Apple still hasn't addressed this and it's shameful because they were the first to offer Siri and Google is running circles around Apple's idea.

Google search was around well before Siri was. You just said Hey Google instead of a name. Hardly Apples idea.
Googles still doesn't have a name and has always been better.

This was my fear as well since i love my s22 ultra and have no plans to give it up. At least with my carrier Verizon...i can switch eSims between devices online in account settings. It is not as simple as sim cards. But it does work. It just takes a little more effort.

Yep very problematic in many countries especially as linked to passports or national identity cards as a legal requirement

I checked with my carrier, Mint Mobile and they give two free eSim swaps per 12 months After that they charge $3 per swap so I cancelled my 14 PM.

Fortunately, I carry two phones. The S22 Ultra and the 11 Pro Max.

The S22U has my main line (Physical Sim), and an e-sim line. My 11PM has one e-sim line.

My main line is post paid with T-mobile and had that number forever. My e-sim lines are pre-paid, those numbers are not important.

I'm dropping both e-sim services. Visible and Google Fi are garbage when it comes to data. And Visible signal strength is subpar even with voice. At least here in NY tri-state area.

I'm going to switch my T-mobile main line to e-sim to use with the 14PM. I don't plan on constantly switching phones with it.

I'm going pre-paid physical sim direct from Verizon for my S22U. A bit more expensive than 3 party pre-paid service, but I'll be getting full reliability. I'll be able to switch phones easily with this line.

As far as traveling goes, I've had no issues getting temp e-sims from other countries. Especially in the Europe region.
