Comparing the 14 PM to the S22 Ultra. Currently carrying both.
CAMERA ...... Pardon my lack of photography lingo.
Both the 14PM and S22U takes excellent photos.
The S22U takes brighter night shots, but the 14PM is more detailed and color accurate in night shots.
The 14PM also takes night shots quicker.
Most of the time in good lighting, the S22U produces the better shot with noticeable advantage in detail.
The 14PM does have less light glare though.
It's a toss up between the two of which has the better bokeh.
The 14PM has the better selfie cam, with the exception of skin tone. 14PM does an amazing job at keeping background light glare to a minimal (many times no glare at all), while the S22U light glare is very noticeable. Selfie wide shot coverage is basically identical between the two.
The 14PM absolutely destroys the S22U in video recording at any setting. The S22 does a good job at video recording, but damn, the 14PM is on a differ level.
The S22U zoom destroys the 14PM. Zooming in past 3x indoors (4x outdoors with great sunlight), and it looks terrible compared to even 20x on the S22U. The S22U has a better optical range, and better digital zoom processing.
They both detect auto macro shots very well.
DISPLAY .....
I don't know what it is, like I seriously can't pinpoint why. But the S22U just has the better looking display for viewing anything. The 14PM comes close though. This seems to always be the case with a Samsung flagship vs iPhone.
DESIGN .....
The 14PM camera bumps are HUGE!!! I wasn't expecting that, especially coming from an 11PM. Any bigger and it would be laughable. I would definately be paranoid without a case.
I prefer holding the 14PM which is 0.1 inch shorter in display size, and has round edges that feel good in my palm.
I prefer using the S22U one handed though. Cause the slightly narrower display makes it easy for my thumb to reach the other side. And the fact that I can pull down the Notification Center/Toggles from anywhere on the display, makes the S22U the better big phone for one handed usage. Sliding down to bring the top of the screen half way on the iPhone, isn't comparable.
AOD .....
Both implemented differently. I like them both though. Technically, I'm going to give this one to the 14PM.
There's just more info to be glanced at with lock screen widgets, and also certain apps can be used with AOD.
Fortunately, it's very obvious when the 14PM is sleep vs woke display. This was something I was worried about
before I got my hands on it.
Although I still like Samsung's AOD, and think it's the best in the Android world. It's about time Samsung evolves
AOD. It has been pretty stagnant in evolving for a long time. I don't think they need to copy Apple. But they definitely
need to implement more than just cute designs and notification icons.
You can definitely make more of a personal statement with Samsung's AOD, as their countless images can be shown bright enough to see. You can barely see the lockscreen background on the 14PM AOD.
BATTERY .....
In the slightly over 24 hours I've had the 14PM. I can already tell, this phone has better batt life than the S22U and probably most other flagships as well.
The S22U is compatible with every wireless charger I've tried. The 14PM doesn't like some of my wireless chargers, it's finicky.
SPEAKERS ....
The 14PM speakers puts the S22U speakers to shame. The 14PM gets louder and has much more punch to it. The S22U gets adequately loud, but sounds like you're listening to mono vs stereo.
MISC ADVANTAGES ....
The S22U has the S-Pen and it's integrated inside the phone. Quick notes using the S-Pen is nothing short of being Godsend.
Tapping the S22U power button twice is the absolute best camera shortcut EVER!!!!
I just think Face ID is the better than any FPS. Extremely convenient and works 99.9% of the time.
S22U uses USB-C. Don't need to explain this one.
Apple's iCloud ecosystem is hands down the best for too many reasons to list. If you don't have other Apple devices, or family and friends with Apple devices, then it's probably not an advantage.
Secure Folder on Samsung devices. Nothing comes close. I work with multiple corporations, and they allow me to tap into their exchange (when necessary) without worrying about them having access to my entire phone. All they would have access to is my Secure Folder. I know this is more of a niche advantage, but it's huge for me.
14PM has Apple Maps. Now I don't use Apple Maps for navigation. But Apple Maps street view is so much better in clarity and brightness vs Google Maps street view. And the Apple's street view UI is smoother to use.
Samsung splitscreen multitasking on the S22U. Come on Apple, get with the times.
Dynamic Island on the 14PM is actually useful.
Separate Sound App feature. I can play music (or anything else) through BT speakers, and select what apps I want to play sound through my phone speakers at the same time. This feature has become very handy.
MISC LETDOWNS ....
The keyboard haptics on the 14PM is a freaking joke. It's like you have to guess if haptics is actually on or not.
Really Apple?? I thought you were the masters at haptics.
When it's sleep for x amount of time. Sometimes (not all the time) the S22U doesn't push notifications until you wake it up. Then you get bombarded with notifications. I've heard users complain about this with Samsung devices, but never experienced it until I got the S22U.
I hate the small barely viewable thumbnails on iOS notifications, compared to Android's adequate sized thumbnails.
I had my first game crash (Lego Star Wars) on the 14PM today, and I'm not surprised at all. This is almost the norm for me on iOS. Such powerful chips and still crashes. I wouldn't say it's constant. But it's definitely normal, especially with bigger games. I even experience random game crashes on Apple TV. Haven't had a crash on a game yet on the S22U, and very rarely on other Android devices. Fortunately, I don't game as much on mobile as I used to.
14PM has AOD now, so why don't we have the option of disabling notifications waking the display when AOD is enabled? Come on Apple, you should have thought of that.
