For all that is said about the quality of Apple products, I bought a silicone case yesterday from John Lewis.
First case I out on in the car outside the shop, drove off and noticed a piece of purple silicone on my hand. Stopped and checked the case, and two chunks had come off the rim of the case.

Thankfully I did put it on in the car and didn’t wait until I got home as this is not a local shop to me (45 min drive).

Anyway they let me swap it out straight away and the new one was fine.
Until this morning... noticed this as I set my phone on my desk this morning.

So that's 2 silicone cases that have both done the same thing. Pretty annoyed if I'm honest as that's just crap quality control. I'd understand if I was rough with it but pieces are just falling out with no rhyme or reason why. Maybe its the colour of it. I dunno.
Do they have all the speaker holes? Lol as i know some opened theirs with no holes

was going to pick up the navy case for pro max when it’s out but hope they fix the quailty control issues.

I'm enjoying the conversation here and really good posts...I too see the portless iPhone around the corner..I never liked the durability of those silicone cases always cracked but I will say I've returned them after months and Apple replaced them with new one...service is always good by my experience...

The list is so long I’m not even gonna try to cover it all...

Receiving messages on the go and being able to reply to them with voice dictation or scribble is huge for me, when the phone isn’t near me or in a pocket when I have my hands full or whatever. I’m especially impressed my AW lets me reply to WhatsApp messages which it doesn’t even have a dedicated watch app for.

Since upgrading from AW gen 1 to 5, to my shock I can actually answer a phone call with no audio issues whatsoever using the watch only. I’ll be washing up manually and someone calls, I tap reply without breaking my stride and I can even keep going with the water running right next to the watch and both me and the caller can hear each other fine. Still a wow experience for me after 6 months owning it.

Then there’s having my digital tickets on the wrist, starting timers and setting alarms and reminders using voice, taking notes with voice dictation, checking my pulse as I have a slightly elevated health risk there, asking Siri to calculate stuff or convert units (although she’s admittedly horrible otherwise, still, compared to google assistant...), seeing weather info at a glance and being able to call up detailed hourly forecast in an instant, having the watch auto unlock my Mac or locked Notes so I don’t have to type those passwords all the time, pinging my iPhone when I’ve misplaced it, and of course notifications, notifications, notifications... Oh and music controls.

That’s what I got without even thinking about it, others will have more to add I’m sure. I’ve used an AW since they were first released and I don’t see myself ever stopping, unless one day I feel the need to go off grid or drop all personal tech gadgets or something (an urge that actually hits me from time to time hah).

EDIT: ah, so maybe you were actually asking about the AW as compared to the Galaxy Watch, in that case my bad. I guess some of my points are actually AW only though, so I’ll just be lazy and leave it all as I wrote it sorry :p
No, I was just asking about smartwatches in general so your answers are all valid. I guess it’s all a matter of personality so I can understand the benefit of feeling always connected. I can’t ignore the benefit of having that device to answer calls, message, take a note, etc. all on your wrist.
I really hated the constant connected feeling. All of the notifications and buzzing was off-putting to me so I turned off most every notification. At that point is was really just a watch that I could kinda use to message and answer calls on but the experience was so inferior (my opinion) to the phone that I would always go to my phone to perform those tasks. At that point I thought why am I wearing this?

Alright, well I hear ya. As I did mention briefly at the end, I also now and then feel overwhelmed by the constant prodding of communication and all this constant gadgetry. So I definitely understand how a smartwatch might not be for everyone.

As it is now, if I didn't have the watch I'd be all over my phone a lot more, fiddling with all the same stuff but then also having to pry it out of my pocket or bag all the time, so the watch makes things smoother for me. On the other hand though, I could also approach that from the other direction and actually cut down on all the tech use itself...

One kind of sad thing about getting used to wearing a smartwatch (warning: first world problem incoming) is that I now never wear any other type of watch, and there are such beautiful watches out there. I do miss my vintage digital timepieces, so much lighter too... The AW looks great in my taste but, not as great as some of those metallic 80s beauties. And, everyone's AW looks the same, bar the minimal material and color variations.

On the topic of watches, whilst in John Lewis yesterday they had a Galaxy Watch S3 out on display which I was tempted by a few weeks back to see if I liked it more than an Apple Watch. As previously mentioned I find the AW to be the most overrated piece of tech ever (for me...) and I loved the look of the Samsung watch.

Turns out in real life I love it too. Looked amazing. I have a stainless Steel apple watch and I'd rather have the watch 3 on my wrist than this any day!

Not hating on watch users but genuinely curious, what is the killer feature that everyone loves about them? I see this comment a lot about people loving their watches but I haven’t had the same experience. I have an Apple Watch that I wore a week when it came out and it’s been in a desk ever since.
Rather than regurgitate my use case in another long post, I’ll link what I posted in this thread.

Needless to say, I’m a big Apple Watch fan.

I realized that one of the major weird drawbacks to Android is that I can't get Bluetooth to connect to my car, yet with the same Bluetooth 5.0 my iPhone 11 Pro Max connects fine.

It's quite an odd quandary.

Finally got a good portrait photo with my 12.

Well here's to variety and competition! I really hope we see more serious contenders to both Apple and Samsung in this market in the future. For myself, if someone came out with a more 80s looking smartwatch - sharp corners, rectangular, oily gunmetal or those awesome cheapish steel or gold shines they used to make, maybe even a hardware button or nine...preferably thinner than today's smartwatches but I could live with bigger/wider as a tradeoff - even with only base smartwatch functionality, and Android exclusivity, I'd give up a ton of stuff to have that.

The Diesel on Fadelite is an amazing 90s throwback WearOS watch that I love. But it’s too big for my tiny wrists and too expensive. Would sooner have the Samsung. That’s the best looking watch IMO.

Yeah Apple's customer service can never be taken out of the equation. I'll never forget when I dunked my iPhone 4S brand new in the toilet, without any kind of insurance to cover it. A friend encouraged me to just tell an Apple store rep what happened, there was nothing to lose so I did. They replaced my phone with a refurb for $100 on the spot. I'm normally not one to advocate "loyalty" to something as impersonal as a huge corporation, or a brand, but that occasion along with a few similar situations does undeniably add to my sense of Apple products being comparatively safe to buy.

Oh nice, I hadn't seen that one. Now if only they'd turn back the time dial another 10 years :D

I don't understand it either.
This is my fear as well. I think in the next year or 2 we will see a port less iPhone. Meaning Apple will push its customers to a more services driven experience. You will only get music through Apple Music. Backups will be over the air. No attaching to a computer of anykind.

Imho this is not a good thing..
It is very likely. I think you gave me another argument that I should part with the iPhone now.

I quite like the Tag ones and they do a smaller variant, but charging pins are a bit fickle and of course price makes them far more rare and appealing than the mass of others :D

It would definitely be a pain setting up a phone & transferring 200gb+ of data over WiFi. And they need to step up their wireless charging game.

I’ve had the Gear S3 and the previous Galaxy Watch. They are handsome watches but too large and heavy to use while exercising, one of my main uses of the AW. Samsung fixes this with the Galaxy Watch Active, but they all suffer from the same issue - Tizen is too restrictive on the wrist.

There are hardly any apps, many are junk, and there’s ZERO integration with Google services which kind of defeats the purpose of pairing with an Android phone. And don’t get me started with Bixby as a voice assistant.

I always made an encrypted backup through iTunes of my current phone so when I upgraded I could just restore the back up to my new phone. Takes about 20 minutes and the new phone is exactly like my current phone.

Wireless back up and restore takes hours....
